* ''Literature/{{Rubbernecker}}'': Patrick's father was killed in a hit-and-run when he was eight. As an eighteen-year-old, he decides to study anatomy in order to better understand death. [[spoiler:Patrick's mother Sarah finally confesses that she killed her husband while trying to [[OffingTheOffspring run Patrick down]]. Death is a difficult enough matter for adults to deal with. It's no surprise, then, that children find it especially painful when they meet death for the first time. It's easy to imagine how upset they'll feel if, when one of their grandparents or a beloved family pet dies, even the grown-ups cry.
