* In VideoGame/FireEmblemTellius this trope is subverted, and then played straight. Initially, the Four Riders of Daien are held up as Co-Dragons to the King of Daien, being the nation's four top generals and warriors. It quickly becomes apparent, however, that Petrine and Bertram are both taking orders from The BlackKnight, and that only the latter has Mad King Ashnard's ear. As the last few chapters approach, however, we are introduced to Badass Bryce, the last surviving member of the original Riders, who serves as Ashnard's bodyguard, believes MyCountryRightOrWrong, and takes no crap from anyone, including the Black Knight. In the second game, the Goddess Ashera has [[spoiler: Sephiran and Dhenginsea]] as her Dragons.

* The Chorus arc of Machinima/RedVsBlue gives us Locus and , two mercenaries who carry out Control 's plan to wipe out the people of Chorus. All of Control's other grunts answer to them, they are the only ones who have any sort of contact with their boss, and are by far the biggest threat of the arc, even giving Wash and Carolina a challenge.

* From Literature/TheSilmarillion, Morgoth had three Dragons, each with a different area of expertise--Sauron, who led various werewolves, vampires and the like; Gothmog, leader of the Balrogs; and Glaurung, father of the (literal) dragons. Sauron is noted for having been sort of a DragonInChief, however, while Morgoth sat in the fortress that Sauron guarded.
** In Literature/TheLordOfTheRings takes place after Sauron became the DragonAscendant, and now has two dragons of his own: the Witch-King, who leads his forces, and the MouthOfSauron, who administers his EvilEmpire.

* WebComic/MegaManDissonance has Grave, Presto, Adagio and Piano of the Element 5, who serve Requiem. This is justified, as they were programmed to function as failsafes in the event that Requiem malfunctions or goes rogue (this obviously didn't work by the time the story started). Grave himself is against his leader's goals, but willingly serves him nonetheless.

* In the 20th year of Universal's Theatre/HalloweenHorrorNights, the event's "Icons" (Jack the Clown, The Caretaker, The Director, The Storyteller, and The Usher) were demoted from Big Bads to this role, serving as the minions for "Fear", the EldritchAbomination personification of fear itself, who was revealed to have been the GreaterScopeVillain behind the event's entire history. This partially occurred again in 2015, when Jack the Clown once again became the main "Icon" and had the others serving as his henchmen.
