* It caused controversy when LOGO's Gay Series/TheBachelor series ''Series/FindingPrinceCharming'' starred "Prince Charming" Robert Sepulveda Jr. who was revealed to have previously worked as a gay escort and even had a few pornographic videos online (stated to have been distributed without Robert's permission from an ex-lover). This was never mentioned during the show itself, but after it came out the show's producers did state they were aware of the fact and supported Robert, despite his lurid past. Some of the former contestants, however, have been much less supportive and feel embarrassed to outright disgusted at the reveal after taping.

This often happens from [[{{Expy}} being derived from early drafts of other works]] of the authors, especially creators who worked in the {{doujinshi}} industry: limited runs of small-release fan comics. Some kinds of doujinshi happen to feature original characters and also be outright pornographic in an attempt to gain some quick capital with fans, creating the potentially unsettling feeling the character started in the mind of the author with an unsavory tone. For some artists, this can be a little awkward, but the attempt to hide it (as voice actors do under an assumed name) is pretty futile in practice. Some professional artists go the other route, and may continue to draw doujinshi distinctly separate but still featuring their own characters.

* The majority of visual novels that get console ports experience this in their transition, especially if it's PornWithPlot; many of these examples can be seen in the anime section, including the likes of ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'', ''VisualNovel/{{AIR}}'', and ''VisualNovel/TogainuNoChi''.
* ''VisualNovel/RumblingHearts'' received the usual removal of sex scenes when it was ported to Dreamcast and PS2, but also has one particular ending replaced in the ports. [[spoiler:Said ending involved the protagonist getting kidnapped by his love interest, forced to undergo hormonal replacement therapy, and sexually assaulted. The ports replaced this with a more run-of-the-mill happy ending.]]
* Subverted with most of Creator/CompileHeart's artists, despite how most of the female cast is aimed at fanservice. Tsunako, out of all artists, did not start off with a H-Game resume and instead learned over the years at Compile Heart. The only exception was Katsuyuki Hirano, who does the erotic {{feelies}} for the other artists (from dakimakura to pinups).

* {{Sierra}}, which was known for their [[GuideDangIt wicked-hard]] adventure and puzzle games, as well as an extensive catalog of {{EdutainmentGame}}s had their first big hit with a text adventure called ''Softporn Adventure.'' The success of that bankrolled the squeaky-clean ''KingsQuest''. However, it became a subversion; instead of trying to bleach it from their history, they handed it to Al Lowe, who re-wrote the whole thing as PlayedForLaughs and turned it into the first ''LeisureSuitLarry''

Schwartz has been active in the furry community developing the characters he would come to use in the comic since the mid-80s, and while his work could often have a slight risque turn to it, the worst he would draw was a busty squirrel with BarbieDollAnatomy dancing. He refused to draw outright porn until the late 90s but currently has no compunction against it, and in fact currently runs a furry porn pay site. He has stated for the record that he would prefer that fans not draw porn of specific characters, such as Sabrina herself.
** It is still worth noting that people have noticed a similarity between Schwartz's style and those of other porn artists, particularly from before Schwartz had starting doing porn under his own name, and some from afterwards that involves [[Rule34 fanart of corporate-owned characters]]. Despite the OldShame involved, Josh has continued to produce short pornographic comics on his ''Slipshine'' subscription service to this day, some of which still feature Wendy prominently, although slightly better drawn now.

Once the comic became popular, the pics were eventually deleted from his art pages, though they occasionally still pop up from time to time on imageboards. The move is somewhat ironic, given the {{Fanservice}}-heavy nature of the comic and that Mora has since been shown and implied to have had sex multiple times throughout.

* A fair number of {{professional wrestl|ing}}ers in Wrestling/{{WWE}} have gotten their undies bleached, sometimes as a result of a HeelFaceTurn but more generally because WWE has in recent years attempted to become more family-friendly. The most notable of these is John Cena, who rose to fame as a heel that belittled his opponents through R-Rated rap promos. Within record time, Cena was PG-ized by the WWE when they saw his popularity and has gone full-tilt towards erasing any edginess about Cena in favor for a G-Rated version of Cena that they could shill to children. On the Divas side, Mickie James (who did several nude photoshoots before becoming a WWE wrestler) and Kelly Kelly, who started out with fairly perverted gimmicks (PsychoLesbian and "extreme exhibitionist," respectively) before being converted to generic Divas.
** Subverted with wrestler Steve Austin, who credits his brief tenure in ECW for severing as a test run for his revamp into Stone Cold Steve Austin. Meanwhile Wrestling/{{Edge}}, who for a time called himself [[TheArtifact "The Rated-R Superstar"]] reverted back to his wacky evil gimmick of the early 00s rather than simply being neutered.
** Inverted (given it's for something after wrestling) with Wrestling/{{Chyna}}. ''[[VideoGame/{{WWE}} WWE '13]]'' retells the story of the AttitudeEra without listing her. It's either due to a personal feud with Wrestling/StephanieMcMahon (who among other things married [[Wrestling/TripleH her ex]]), or Chyna starting a career as a porn actress.

** The use of the version of the rhyme that has the N-word instead of tiger is an OldShame for ''Series/DoctorWho'' in that it appears in dialogue in an episode of the 1960s story, ''The Celestial Toymaker''. Fortunately, the episode in question is presently lost, however audio survives, and thus far official commercial releases of the audio have obfuscated this part of the soundtrack to avoid controversy.
* The late Japanese TV personality Ai Ijima started her carreer as a Gravure idol/AV actress. She got her break on television as a bikini model. ** Seuss seems to have regarded the fact that he drew "a book full of naked women" as an OldShame, but he also implied that it wasn't the nudity ''per se'' that bothered him, but the fact that he "can't draw naked women, I put their knees in the wrong places." It's also ''extremely'' mild/inoffensive nudity (they don't seem to have any parts that a Barbie doll doesn't). He seemed more embarrassed by the fact it didn't sell well and wound up getting remaindered.
** Dr. Seuss also did animation for the WWII-era cartoon shorts featuring the character WesternAnimation/PrivateSnafu, which, unlike the general audience Looney Tunes cartoons, contain a lot of things that would be considered objectionable both back in the days of UsefulNotes/TheHaysCode and now (scantily-clad women, racist caricatures of the Japanese, references to Hitler and Nazism, uses of the words "damn" and "hell"[[note]]which, back then, were almost as bad as "fuck" and "shit"[[/note]], and crude humor that would appeal to its mostly male, young military audience).

* Anna Wintour, the ''Vogue'' editor on whom Miranda Priestly of ''Literature/TheDevilWearsPrada'' is allegedly based, doesn't often admit that [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Wintour#New_York_City she was once an editor at ''Viva'']], an attempt at creating an adult women's magazine edited by Kathy Keeton (aka Mrs. Bob Guccione) in the late 1970s.
* Camilla D'Errico, who did artwork for comics and a variety of art projects. However she is also well known for her artistic nudes which she at some point felt it was an OldShame until the San Diego Comic Con.
* Paul Reubens' Pee-Wee Herman was a stand-up character for adult comedy nightclubs and his playhouse show played out like a kids' show with adult humor (the kind that's more R-rated, not PG-rated, as seen in many animated films and TV shows). One of his routines involved he and his friend Hammy wearing shoe mirrors to see up Hammy's sister's dress. Hammy's sister catches them trying to look up her dress, then tells them the joke is on them because she's not wearing any panties.
* Creator/BarrySonnenfeld, director of the ''Film/MenInBlack'' movies started his career as a cinematographer in porn films.
* ''{{Fanfic/Hivefled}}'' is a complex, plot-driven AlternateUniverseFic. The KinkMeme fic it originated from, ''Reprise'', was basically just horrible torture-rape.
* {{Fanfiction}} in general tends to have a lot of this, with the same writers doing everything from gen to smut.
* ''WesternAnimation/AmericanDad'' revealed that all of the ''Film/TheFastAndTheFurious'' films are in fact hardcore gay pornos that are edited to remove the male-on-male sex scenes. France is the only country that gets to see the movies as they originally are.
* Non-adult content example: the anime streaming site Crunchyroll originally hosted pirated content before going legit and streaking deals with anime producers to simulcast new episodes.
* Horror fiction author Creator/GrahamMasterton wrote soft-core porn novels and edited a top-shelf "men's magazine" before becoming a full time author. He has never tried to hide or disguise this.
* Creator/OsamuTezuka, the creator of ''Manga/AstroBoy'' and ''Manga/KimbaTheWhiteLion'', once made an X-Rated hentai in 1970 called "Cleopatra: Queen Of Sex". And when Tezuka's daughter unlocked his work desk after his death, she found many unfinished sketches. Several of these drawings were R/NC-17 rated, including some that could only be described as "furry porn".
* Charles Swenson, the writer of ''WesternAnimation/AnAmericanTailFievelGoesWest'' and producer/director for ''WesternAnimation/{{Rugrats}}'' and ''WesternAnimation/AaahhRealMonsters'' once made an X-Rated animated film called ''WesternAnimation/DownAndDirtyDuck'' in 1974.
* Voice actors in both the USA and in Japan (and probably in other countries) will sometimes work under aliases when they voice act in hentai, eroge, yaoi, etc. The list includes: the whole cast of ''VisualNovel/SchoolDays'' and their {{Spin Off}}s (who use their aliases in the games and their actual names in the ''School Days'' anime), Creator/AiUchikawa ("Chitose Kamata"), Creator/SayakaAoki ("Rumiko Sasa"), Creator/TakehitoKoyasu ("Hayato Juumonji"), Creator/ShinjiKawada ("Taro Wasshoi"), Creator/HirokiTakahashi ("Okino Yasuhiro"), Kenichirou Matsuda ("Rinta Hayakawa"), Masatomo Nakazawa ("Sawa Manaka"), Ryota Takeuchi ("Waruta Higeuchi"), Creator/JunjiMajima ("Suga Kiya"), Creator/KosukeToriumi ("Spoon Sakiware"), Creatir/HikaruMidorikawa ("Hikaru"), Creator/NaokoTakano ("Midori Kawamura"), Creator/YasunoriMatsumoto ("Daijiro Kataoka"), Creator/MitsukiSaiga ("Makoto Sato") etc.
* Creator/RobinWilliams' first film was a pornographic sketch comedy called ''Can I Do It 'Till I Need Glasses?''.
* Chris Savino, who worked on cartoons such as ''WesternAnimation/KickButtowski'' and ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'', also made a webcomic called ''The Complex Adventures of Eddie Puss'' about a boy cat and his attraction to his mother, but it's very hard to find.
* A decade before his fame as a monologist and character actor in TheEighties, [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spalding_Gray Spalding Gray]] played supporting roles in three porno films.
* The Canadian LGBT channel Pridevision aimed to be packaged alongside other mainstream digital cable networks, but got packaged as a premium adult channel by many providers because it aired gay porn during the late-night hours on the East Coast, on a channel with no west coast feed no less (one provider was even disciplined by the CRTC for making it as [[LoopholeAbuse hard as possible]] for viewers to access its mandatory free preview period). A few years later, the adult content was branched off into a new 24-hour channel known as "Hard on Pridevision", and the main network was rebooted as [=OutTV=].

* Katie Wallander (formerly Katie Rice) feels this way about working on ''WesternAnimation/RenAndStimpy: Adult Party Cartoon'' as a layout artist. She has said on her Twitter that she is [[OldShame openly embarrassed about having worked on it]] for its [[NauseaFuel gruesome shock comedy]] and pornographic material, to the point where she refused to watch it for years. And when she did pop in the Lost Episodes DVD one day, she was so revolted at what she helped make that her DVD of it went in the trash the next day. To date, she refuses to talk about her time working at Spumco.
* ''WesternAnimation/RegularShow'', already showing copious instances of radar-dodging, is based on two student films J.G. Quintel did when he was in college for animation. One is "The Naive Man from Lolliland," which, aside from one use of the word "hell," isn't considered all that raunchy. "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y894QNtX0VA 2 in the AM/PM]]," however, contains R-rated swearing ("fuck" and "shit") and references to drug abuse (the clerks eat candy laced with LSD and trip out).
* Rebecca Sugar, creator of ''WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse'', [[http://www.cartoonbrew.com/animators/rebecca-sugar-4363.html drew some soft]] {{Rule 34}} years before getting a job at Creator/CartoonNetwork. Also, co-developer Ian Jones Quartey drew a softcore pic that included a certain oft-rescued princess of a kingdom of fungi.
* The TV series ''Oh No! It's an Alien Invasion'' is based on a short called ''Oh Shit!''.
* ''WesternAnimation/RickAndMorty'' is based off of an earlier short Justin Roiland did for ''Website/Channel101'' called ''The Real Animated Adventures of Doc and Mharti'', a ''Film/BackToTheFuture'' parody where the solution to literally every problem the main characters encounter is for Mharti to lick Doc's balls. Yes, each instance of this was fully (if crudely) animated.
* Creator/ChrisSavino, creator of ''WesternAnimation/KickButtowski'' and ''WesternAnimation/TheLoudHouse'' once created his own adult comic strip called ''The Complex Adventures of Eddie Puss'' which was about a young anthropomorphic cat who is [[OedipusComplex sexually attracted to his own mother.]] As you might've guessed, the comic isn't exactly family-friendly... or even ''kid''-friendly for that matter.
* Arthur de Pins, character designer for the show ''WesternAnimation/AKindOfMagic'', also drew an erotic comic called ''Péchés mignons''.
* ''WesternAnimation/AmericanDad'' revealed that all of the ''Film/TheFastAndTheFurious'' films are in fact hardcore gay pornos that are edited to remove the male-on-male sex scenes. France is the only country that gets to see the movies as they originally are.

* Colleen Coover first became well known for doing the cute, funny back-up strips for ''Comicbook/XMen'': First Class, and other Marvel work, and is now most notably working on the all-ages ''Webcomic/{{Bandette}}''. Her first published comic, ''Small Favors'', was a "girly [lesbian] porno comic", in her own words. She can't be that ashamed though, as after much demand a new edition of ''Small Favors'' came out in 2017.

** Inverted (given it's for something after wrestling) with Wrestling/{{Chyna}}. ''[[VideoGame/{{WWE}} WWE '13]]'' retells the story of the AttitudeEra without listing her. It's either due to a personal feud with StephanieMcMahon (who among other things married [[TripleH her ex]]), or Chyna starting a career as a porn actress.

** Tony Taka is the main illustrator for many of eroge developer Ciel's works such as ''Genmukan'', ''Sora no Iro, Mizu no Iro'', and ''After''. These days, he's a character designer for the majority of the ''Franchise/ShiningSeries'' (akin to how Creator/KosukeFujishima is a recurring character designer for the ''Franchise/TalesSeries''), beginning with ''VideoGame/ShiningTears'' (oddly, he was not part of the AnimatedAdaptation ''Shining Tears x Wind''). For some reason, Tony Taka rarely does the art for the {{Animated Adaptation}}s of eroge he's worked with: his fame is so great some adaptations falsely advertise him as the leading artist.
