* The VideoGame/DragonQuest series starts off pretty campy and cutesy, but overall takes itself seriously. This is what makes certain games like VideoGame/DragonQuestV and VideoGame/DragonQuestVII so unusual, because they're quite depressing and dark (respectively) given their cutesy AkiraToriyama art-style.

* VideoGame/LegoCityUndercover is seemingly just another Lego game. But it has many refferences to movies and books that children aren't supposed to watch/read (James Bond, Harry Hole, Terminator, etc.), it also gets a load of crap past the radar, you get points from breaking things, a crime boss gets frozen to death (he is rebuilt, but still), a mook loses both hands, TheHero tortures a mook through brain freeze, and more. It is nicknamed Lego VideoGame/GrandTeftAuto for a reason and probably would have the same ratings if not for the lego style. And that the hero is a cop doesn't do it much better. It's a good game but still weird it got past the radar.

* VideoGame/GhostTrick has a cute and colorful art style which is like a mix of WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom and VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTheWindWaker including cool music you could imagine being played on the radio. The story is that you're an Hero ghost who tries to stop brutal murders and to find out who he is before sunrise. The characters are colorful and goofy, the humor is cheerful, and the game won a price for best animation. You save people by going minutes before their death and stopping it doing poltergeisty tricks. It also has a character reading an erotic novel out loud, a child murderer (albeit unwilling), a character dying from a realistic heart attack, several people being crushed, and more.

* WebComic/AxeCop uses a slightly-exaggerated but fairly realistic style a la most mainstream comic books. But since the plots are written by a six-year-old, the actual content of the comic is completely insane.

* WesternAnimation/SausageParty is full of profanity, adult humor, and plenty of NightmareFuel. Yet, it looks like something you would expect out of ether Disney, Pixar, or Dreamworks.

* The anime adaptation of ViolinistOfHameln, originally a parody manga, removes all the humor and plays the DysfunctionJunction for its full angst value, but keeps the art style.

* Webcomic/Skadi is filled to the brim with BlackComedy, NauseaFuel, and can be surprisingly action-packed in several of it's arcs. However, the comic's art style looks like a mix between Spumco and Cartoon Network.
