* MaliciousMisnaming: The Black Knight does this carelessly to show his complete lack of interest, when Jill mentions their quest to find Prince Rilian.
--> '''Black Knight:''' It is a strange fantasy that brought you searching for... how do you call him? Bilian? Trilian?"

* AbsurdlySharpBlade: Lampshaded in the text, when the Black Knight destroys [[spoiler: the silver chair]] with his sword.
--> That must have been a good sword. The [[spoiler: silver]] gave way beneath its edge like string.

* AmusinglyAwfulAim: Puddleglum suggests that he and the children would be safer if the giants of Ettinsmoor ''were'' throwing rocks at them, instead of each other.

* AndAnotherThing: At the end of the scene with Trumpkin welcoming Jill and Eustace to the court of Narnia, Trumpkin gives orders to Glimfeather for food and lodgings to be provided for them. Just before he departs, he adds "Oh, and Glimfeather, see that they're properly washed". This echoes his earlier comment about them being "grubby man-cubs", and because he is partly deaf, he says it louder than he intends.

* LinkedListClueMethodology: Downplayed, with Aslan's four cryptic signs to help the heroes achieve their mission to find Prince Rilian. In particular, the second and third signs are linked: the second sign is to travel to the ruined city, and the third sign is to obey writing on a stone in that ruined city.

In particular, the second and third signs are linked: the second sign is to travel to the ruined city, and the third sign is to obey writing on a stone in that ruined city. [[spoiler: The writing says "Under me", telling them they have to go ''under'' that ruined city.]]

* OhCrap: Aslan gives Jill a series of signs that will help in accomplishing the quest that she's being sent upon, but she, Eustace, and Puddleglum miss their chance at each one and get progressively more reactive to each one, culminating with the final one: [[spoiler:when the knight is tied to the eponymous silver chair, he begs them to help in the name of Aslan. As helping someone who invoked Aslan's name was the final sign, they panic as they're not sure if the knight is mad or who they're supposed to help. They decide to trust the sign.]] Though, as Puddleglum points out, following the sign doesn't guarantee their safety:
-->'''Puddleglum:''' Aslan didn't tell Pole what would happen. He only told her what to do. ... But that doesn't let us off following the sign.

** When they mention the writing that they saw on the stones in the ruined city, the Black Knight sneers that it had nothing to do with them, and that it is all that remains of a longer script. Jill and Eustace are briefly horrified, but Puddleglum assures them that Aslan knew this.

* RopeBridge: Played with. When the travellers are confronted with a fast-flowing river in a very deep chasm, they spot an ancient stone bridge. Jill and Eustace believe that it was built by giants, but Puddleglum believes it may be enchanted, and might disappear when they are on the middle of it. He reluctantly crosses with the children, and nothing eventful happens. The [[Series/TheChroniclesOfNarniaBBC BBC adaptation]] adds a scene where Eustace almost falls through a gap where stones have dropped out, and has to be hauled back up.
