** Thankfully, Swarup's next book includes a sympatethic transsexual character, though it's entirely ''not'' the same thing, especially in the middle-to-far East (for example, in Iran, where homosexuality is illegal but transsexuality can be partially covered by government health payments, and to a lesser but still important extent in India where it's an enormous part of some locations' cultures and at least relevant everywhere else).
