* RealPlaceBackground: The story takes places in the fictional city of Kamiyama, which is heavily based on Takayama, a city in Japan's Gifu prefecture. As usual for KyotoAnimation, the town gets depicted in vivid detail in the anime, with many local landmarks clearly recognizable.
