* AlienLunch: An ongoing RunningGag. Nyarko keeps using alien ingredients on everything she cooks, be it Shantak bird eggs, Shub-Niggurath (the "Black Goat of the Woods") meat or her famous [[FunWithAcronyms "BLT"]] (Byakhee-Lloigor-Tsathougga) sandwich. And then there's the hotdog from Episode 4 of the second anime -- "dog" here meaning "Hound of Tindalos".

** Mahiro has finally had enough of Nyarko's bitching in episode 11 of the first series when [[spoiler:their fighting goes too far and injures Ghutatan]] and snaps at the girls with a short, but scathing TheReasonYouSuckSpeech, demanding that they apologize-- not to him, but to the girl.

* PlotTailoredToTheParty: Occurs unintentionally in episode 9 of ''Nyarko-San W'', where the villain Agent Smith challenges Mahiro's group to a series of games in order to free the school from his hypnosis. Smith picks the games he thinks he can win easily[[note]]including [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daifug%C5%8D Daifugo]], Mahjong, and Darts[[/note]], but ends up losing because Nyarko and Mahiro are just plain better. Played the straightest with the game of Darts, which Mahiro handily owns thanks to his fork-throwing skills.

*** The first part of this episode combines this with InfoDump as Nyarko addresses the audience directly to get new viewers up to speed, for example giving little introductions for Yoichi and Tamao when the group gets to school.

* [[TheDevTeamThinksOfEverything The Staff Thinks of Everything]]: Episode 11 ends with Mahiro finds himself in a world where there are no other people; after this episode aired, the image on the ''Nyarko-san'' homepage (the one at the top of this page) was replaced with one that showed Mahiro in the same pose, but none of the other characters; it reverted to normal after episode 12.
** During the run of ''Nyarko-San W'', episode 7 was delayed a week due to the 2013 World Table Tennis Championship; the staff responded by editing the website's front page so that Nyarko and Cuuko were holding table tennis paddles.

''[[http://ga.sbcr.jp/novel/nyaruko/index.html Haiyore! Nyarko-san]]'' is a 2009-2014 RomanticComedy LightNovel series written by Manta Aisora and illustrated by Koin (of ''LightNovel/{{Kanokon}}'' fame) with elements from {{Toku}} and the CthulhuMythos. [[LovecraftLite It isn't as bad as you think, though]], especially since [[AffectionateParody it doesn't take itself all that seriously]]. As it turns out that while the mythos beings are real, Creator/HPLovecraft pretty much exaggerated the stories from his [[HumanoidAlien Nyarlathotepian]] friend and turned them into horror tales.

** You can tell those in charge of the series [[ShownTheirWork are quite familiar with and are fans of]] Lovecraft's work and the actual CthulhuMythos, and use that to great effectiveness here.
