**The website Anime News Network has hypocrisy regarding the Gundam franchise that can easily be described as such: If Iron Blooded Orphans did it, that is good; if any other entry did it, that is bad. Unfair criticisms given to Gundam Evolve, Anime/AfterWarGundamX, Anime/MobileSuitVictoryGundam, MS IGLOO, and Anime/MobileSuitGundamThunderbolt. ANN has been chastised for MechaAnime reviews in the past, but Gundam reviews are where the hypocrisy shines the brightest.

----

* Franchise/DragonBall:
** During the original series, Bulma, even while dating Yamcha, would constantly flirt with other guys, but would fly into a rage and physically assault Yamcha if she even suspected he was doing the same.
** During the Buu Saga, Bulma tears the Z-Fighters a new one for depending on Goten and Trunks to fight Majin Buu, especially after Piccolo traps them in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, where they will remain forever until Buu kills them. While she makes a valid point and the Z-Fighters are being too casual about death, she never made this protest when kid Goku would go off on dangerous adventures, one that she started with the first Dragon Ball hunt, and even encouraged Goku to come with her. She also had no problem with kid Gohan fighting super-powered, mass-murdering aliens and androids, and didn't bat an eye when he asked to go to Namek with them. It's not until her child is in mortal danger that she suddenly realizes the negative implications of having children fight on the front lines.
** At the beginning of Z, Raditz outright declares Goku, his own brother, a disgrace to all Saiyans for his soft nature, when he himself isn't a credit to their race. As a whole, Saiyans are Blood Knights who would rather die than live with the shame of defeat, especially when their opponent is weaker, whereas Raditz is a SmugSnake and a DirtyCoward who bullies others weaker than him and begs for his pathetic life as soon as he's threatened.
** During the Cell Saga, Goku's taken aback when Gohan deliberately prolongs his CurbStompBattle with Cell solely to humiliate him and make him suffer for his crimes and yells at him to finish Cell off. While Goku does make a valid point, he himself did the exact same thing to Frieza for the exact same reason, prioritizing Frieza's humiliation over escaping Namek before it exploded. At the same time, that can easily be explained as Goku learning from the experience, given that he almost didn't escape Namek's explosion because of his anger and need for vengeance, and knowing that if Cell was anything like Frieza, he wouldn't hesitate to destroy the Earth when backed into a corner. One explanation that helps soften this is the notion that Super Saiyan makes one act more "Saiyan-like" (arrogant and bloodthirsty), and the first transformation is always the worst in this regard. Goku (who had been there himself) was trying to get Gohan to calm down and finish Cell, but couldn't get through the haze of battle-lust triggered by his Super Saiyan 2 transformation.
** Cell himself is a hypocrite. He tells Gohan "Stay back, you monster!," despite him being one od the most monstrous big bads of the series. Cell also comments on Gohan's SanitySlippage, despite him killing people for fun.
** During the Cell Saga, Piccolo gives Goku a WhatTheHellHero speech over his decision to throw Gohan into battle with Cell, pointing out that Gohan doesn't share Goku's BloodKnight attitude and is JustAKid. While he makes a valid point, Piccolo himself did just that during the Saiyan Saga, putting Gohan through TrainingFromHell for a year and angrily chewing him out for failing to follow through with a team attack on Nappa, whereas Krillin had to point out to Piccolo that Gohan was only five, had never been in a real battle before then, and shouldn't even be fighting in the first place. Though, to be fair, this was before Piccolo's HeelFaceTurn when he was a much bigger jerk.
** Vegeta, in more ways than one:
*** He once lectured Nappa about keeping his cool in a fight, and ignoring the insults; ironically, Vegeta loses his temper himself every time someone insults him or if he's about to lose a fight. Note also, that he threw a temper tantrum at Goku for overpowering him in just a few episodes after he lectured him, and in the same fight.
*** He's also EnragedByIdiocy and always badmouths Goku for saying or doing something stupid, and yet Vegeta's pride and arrogance, which borders on LethallyStupid at its worst, constantly results in him making incredibly rash and idiotic decisions that always put the Earth in danger.
*** He berates Goku for fighting and going Super Saiyan when he's clearly ill. He makes a very good point and Goku was indeed foolish, but Vegeta is the last person who should be giving this lecture since he is known for going into battle when he's far from prime condition, like trying to fight Android 18 with a shattered arm.
*** He's left utterly stunned by how Mr. Satan doesn't realize his limits after being flung from the ring by Cell. He calls Mr. Satan's stupidity beyond belief. He is right about Mr. Satan overestimating himself and should realize how outmatched he is, but it's funny that this commentary is coming from a character who is infamously known for overestimating himself.
*** He is a SocialDarwinist who firmly believes in the survival of the fittest, the strong rules over the weak, and anyone who is killed deserves it for being weak. Part of the reason why he is the Saiyan Prince is because he is the strongest their race has to offer. This mindset is never applied to himself when he isn't the strongest. When Frieza proves to be his superior, instead of accepting the outcome as natural selection, Vegeta has a mental breakdown before breaking down in tears. He also demeans and badmouths Goku, despite the fact that by his own standards Goku is his superior since he is the strongest Saiyan. He does get better and eventually drops the SocialDarwinist mindset.
** Beerus, God of Destruction, can't stand being disrespected by anyone, but as shown in Battle of Gods and Anime/DragonBallSuper, he has no qualms against disrespecting people himself; for example, he humiliated King Vegeta in front of his own son by using his head as a footstool while the king treated him to an elaborate feast.
** Frieza is one on multiple levels:
*** He regularly demeans the Saiyans by dismissing them as stupid, brutal, and prideful Blood Knights who only care about fighting and lack common sense, despite the fact that under his calm and polite façade, he's just as bad. During the Namek Saga, it's clear he likes to fight just as much as the Saiyans, and he was the one who wanted to keep fighting after Goku called it quits and deemed him NotWorthKilling. Furthermore, he himself lacks the common sense to KnowWhenToFoldEm, refusing to accept defeat even after losing his arm and entire lower body.
*** VideoGame/DragonBallXenoverse2 has a lampshaded example if Freeza fights Beerus' attendand Whis: Freeza will say "You know, I've always hated that smug attitude of yours!" and Whis will counter "I'm the smug one? Oh, that's rich."
** Thrice in Resurrection ‘F’, Frieza—Frieza—decided he was an authority on calling someone else egotistical and arrogant:
*** After Frieza transforms into his true form, he asks why Goku hasn't become a Super Saiyan. Goku says that it isn't necessary. Frieza says that Goku is arrogant like always.
*** After being revived, Frieza asks what happened to his father. Sorbet informs him that they were unable to revive him since , and that they would try next time. Frieza dismisses the idea, citing his father's egotism.
*** spoiler: After beating up a mortally injured Goku, Frieza mocks him for being too powerful for his own good and becoming over-confident. Like Frieza is one to talk given that he was so over-confident about his new form that he didn't bother to train it.
*** Also, in the same film, spoiler: After Vegeta reveals he can become a Super Saiyan God, Frieza mocks him by calling him the "prince of nothing". But by the time he said this, the last of his army and Sorbet have all been killed by him. So "Lord Frieza" has nothing left to "Lord" over.
** During his "fight" with Vegito, Super Buu complains that he cheated by fusing, even though he previously absorbed Gotenks, Piccolo, and Gohan to gain an advantage and bragged about it. Vegito rightfully calls him out on it.
** Zamasu, one of the Supreme Kais of Universe 10 in Anime/DragonBallSuper, comes off as such, since he looks down on mortals for using violence to solve their problems rather than the knowledge given to them by the gods, yet has no problem murdering an inhabitant of Planet Babari when he could have just walked away, as his master Gowasu points out. He also disagrees with Gowasu's opinion that the gods are flawed and must also learn from their mistakes, yet thinks of his master as foolish for not bringing justice to mortals, basically saying that the gods are wrong on this subject.
** Baby, the first ArcVillain of Anime/DragonBallGT, is a living DNA archive of the Tuffles, a race destroyed by the Saiyans. Baby, being the last of his kind, attacks Earth, where the remaining Saiyans are for Revenge. He establishes himself as king, recreates the Tuffle homeworld, and has just about everyone under his control. He goes on and on about how the barbaric, bloodthirsty, and cruel the Saiyans are. However, he seems to neither notice nor care that his actions make him NotSoDifferent from the Saiyans, if not worse. Notice that there are exactly two Saiyans living on Earth, seven if you count those who are part Saiyan; all the rest of them are dead. Baby was barbaric, bloodthirsty, and cruel to humans, who had nothing to do with what happened to the Tuffles.
** Later in GT, the Dragon Balls shatter and give birth to evil dragons born from the negative energy that built up in them from over-use; they were originally intended to rest for a few decades in between wishes so the energy could disperse naturally. Bulma immediately blames Goku for all this, citing all the times they've used the Dragon Balls. Of course, Bulma is the one who invented the device that allowed them to use the Dragon Balls so frequently, and kicked off the entire franchise by going to Goku's house to get the Four-Star Ball (and on top of that, her wishes were extremely petty: a lifetime supply of strawberries, later amended to finding the perfect boyfriend). When this is pointed out, Bulma dismisses it and still tries to foist all the blame off on Goku.

* AGodAmI Pain from Manga/Naruto tells Tsunade to not be haughty. Considering the fact that he call himself to be a god and that he's divine... Well, arrogance is blinding, isn't it?
** Also he condemns the system of five hidden villages because their "peace" is built on a set human lives despite the fact that Pain himself is going to bring a lot more of human lives the sacrifice for the sake of what he calls "peace".
** Then there's Naruto Uzumaki himself. He regularly chews out lecherous and otherwise perverted people, while being a bit of a CovertPervert himself.
*** In a similar vein, a twelve year-old Jiraiya called the Third Hokage a pervert for wanting to accompany Jiraiya when he spied on the hot springs.
** Neji enjoyed taunting those he viewed as weaker than him (Hinata, Lee and Naruto) by constantly telling them how pointless their efforts to change their fate were, while at the same time refusing to accept his own fate. Both Hinata and Naruto call him out on it.
** Deidara expresses hatred of people with Kekkei Genkai, especially Sharingan users, claiming they're just "blessed with good genetics". Later, it's revealed that his explosion techniques that he is so proud of are actually Explosion Style - a Kekkei Genkai.
*** In fairness only half of his technique is a Kekkei Genkai; the actual explosive chakra. The ability to infuse it into clay is part of a Kinjutsu he stole from his village, so his actual Clay Style is not a bloodline technique, it's something he created using one and a forbidden jutsu. So while he was "blessed with good genetics," Deidara didn't stop there and took it a step further.
** Sasori gives Sakura a lecture on how worthless emotions are to a ninja and how above he is on them, despite actually not having overcome them himself when he decided to take the final blow from his puppet parents, choosing to die in the embrace of his "parents".
** Danzo expects ninjas to be self-sacrificing while he himself is too cowardly to do so himself and has never perform any self-sacrifice in his entire life. It should be noted he hates himself for this and wishes he had the courage to give his life for his village. He does... in the TakingYouWithMe sense that he was going to die anyway, at least.
*** He also expects ninja to adhere to the teachings of the Second Hokage and suppress their emotions. Yet he himself is guided by his ambition to become Hokage. He's so consumed by it, he lets Pain rampage through the Leaf while he and his subordinates merely observe the battle, planning to use this destruction as "proof" that Tsunade was unsuited for Hokage. At this point, the hypocrisy has reached critical mass: Danzo wants to become Hokage by completely ignoring the example of all the previous Hokage, who always put the lives of their subordinates above their own.Tobirama pulled a YouShallNotPass to let his subordinates escape, Hiruzen and Minato died protecting the Leaf and Tsunade had just used her most dangerous (to herself) technique to protect the villagers.
*** He also claims that it was because of Jiraya interfering with the affairs of other villages that Konoha was destroyed by Pain. Hypocritically it was for Danzo interfering in Amegakure's affairs that Pain attacked. He lied to Hanzo, who back then trusted Akatsuki, telling that Akatsuki was plotting to overthrow him and made an alliance with him for power. The result was Yahiko's death, which sparked Nagato's StartOfDarkness, making him join Tobi, reform Akatsuki into a criminal organization and attack Konoha. Pain attacked Konoha solely due to Danzo's actions.
** Madara Uchiha in more ways than one:
*** spoiler:He calls chakra a source of endless suffering and says that his ultimate goal is to save humanity by creating a dream world without chakra. But apparently Madara does not see any problem in that, to make himself in this new world the sole owner of the chakra which he so despises.
*** [[spoiler:He mocks Obito and tells him that he's too arrogant for thinking that he could manipulate other people without being manipulated himself. However Madara himself thinks that he was the only who he could manipulate other people and not being manipulated himself. Black Zetsu calls him out on this.]]
*** spoiler:After activation Infinite Tsukuyomi he speaks Naruto that he has no right intervene in people's lives. It sounds very hypocritically from man who intervene in many people's life by force of taking away their under control of everlasting illusion.
** [[spoiler:Black Zetsu mocks above Obito and calls him trash due to in order that the he betrayed all people around him at some point. However Black Zetsu himself betrayed gigantic number of people for the implementation of his plan and in fact he has no right call someone a traitor being most big a traitor in history.]]

* Leonard Tessarossa from LightNovel/FullMetalPanic. He makes a big deal about how he's a perfect gentleman, and is shown to constantly get jealous and angry when people like Sousuke more than him, wondering why, since Sousuke is far less "cultured" and directly killed more people than him. Unfortunately, as much as he likes to think so, a gentleman he is not. No gentleman would (knowing how important it is to a woman) force a kiss on a girl who likes someone else. It gets even worse when he willingly abandons his "gentlemanly act", at which point he delivers an ArmorPiercingSlap and BigShutUp to said girl...and still remains convinced that he can win her over -- which may have had something to do with his plan to get her possessed by the spirit of another woman, one he hoped would be a bit more "willing". Combining all this, there is a reason why Leonard is one of the most agreed upon Scrappies in the series.
** Sousuke may have killed more people, but it was all in combat situations against terrorists, mercenaries or soldiers who threaten civilians. On the other hand, Leonard is responsible for killing dozens of innocent bystanders in Tokyo while trying to capture Kaname. Adding to this is that Leonard had Jindai High school taken hostage and gravely injured Kaname's best friend, Kyoko.

He LightNovel/FullMetalPanic makes a big deal about how he's a perfect gentleman, and is shown to constantly get jealous and angry when people like Sousuke more than him, wondering why, since him. As far as he's concerned, Sousuke is unworthy of their praise because he's far less "cultured" and directly killed more people than him. Unfortunately, has killed people]]. Of course, Leonard isn't nearly as much gentlemanly as he likes to think so, pretend, stealing a gentleman he is not. No gentleman would (knowing how important it is to a woman) force a kiss on a girl who girl's SacredFirstKiss because he's convinced that she should be with him whether she likes someone else. It gets it or not. And on top of that, while Sousuke has killed people, it was people like terrorists, mercenaries or enemy combatants he fought in direct combat to protect innocents; meanwhile, Leonard is the head of a terrorist organization and has overseen the deaths of far more people, most of them innocent civilians, than Sousuke ever did (not to mention the fact that they kidnap and exploit people with psychic abilities in order to invent even worse when stronger weapons so they can kill even more people). But in Leonard's mind, because he willingly abandons didn't pull the trigger personally, those deaths don't count and therefore he's a better human being than Sousuke. Needless to say, Kaname throwing his "gentlemanly act", at which point he delivers an ArmorPiercingSlap hypocrisy in his face and BigShutUp to said girl...calling him out on being a rotten person starts wearing on him, and eventually (after she accidentally shoots him in the face) he drops the "gentlemanly act" entirely, smacks her across the face and tells her to shut up...but still remains convinced that he can win they're meant for each otherthe fact that his plan ended up causing her over -- which may to get "possessed" by a woman far more willing to cooperate with him and return his affections might have had something to do with his plan it.
