** Not to mention the "great love that grew between Gimli and Legolas", quote from Return of the King. Seriously. Yes, it's highly, ''extremely'' unlikely that the word "love" is meant in anything other than the platonic sense. No, this troper doesn't care, given the way they warm up to each other during the course of the books. They then travel Middle Earth together and end up sharing a boat bound for Valinor. ''HeterosexualLifePartners'' at the very least.

** Oh, and let's not forget how Smeagol addressed Deagol as ''my love'', and how Deagol mentioned giving Smeagol "more than he could" on his birthday.

*** [[DisContinuity What animated adaption?]]
**** Oh be kind. That movie [[YourMileageMayVary kinda sucks]], but there's also obvious HoYay in the [[Animated/TheReturnOfTheKing Rankin/Bass adaptation of TheReturnOfTheKing]]. That one isn't all that fantastic either, but the Frodo/Sam scenes are beyond sweet.
