She may be married into royalty (So that likely helps in some regards), but she and her best friend are people of two very different races and backgrounds in an era where racism was legally enforced in the USA. Says a lot about the two that they don't let prejudice get in the way of their friendship well into adulthood.

* Depending on your point of view, Lawrence himself gets one just before he and Naveen run into Facilier. He reminds the fun-loving, carefree and lazy Naveen that he needs to either marry a rich woman or get a job. Granted, it might be because he wants to keep his own job (as he can't work for a broke man for free) but it's still clear Lawrence cares enough about his boss (who has treated him as nothing but a ButtMonkey this whole time) to at least try to snap him out of his laissez faire lifestyle. Too bad it doesn't last though...
