History: Heartwarming / Reddit

Why bother posting on [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StrawCharacter /r/politics]] with a dissenting opinion?  You will only get shouted down and downvoted to Oblivion for your trouble.  [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StrawCharacter /r/politics]] is a place for sarcasm and outrage, not discussion and debate.  Posts criticizing reddit are more common than redditors trying to make reddit a better place.  But there are [[http://www.reddit.com/r/TrueReddit/comments/oh7pm/ron_paul_and_the_youth_vote_why_the_candidate/c3h8mj7 examples]] of the latter here and there.

->Posting on /r/politics is a labor of love. A lot of the posters there have simply not been exposed to calm and rational political discussion in their comparatively short lives. Instead they are fed a constant series of emotional politics popular with the modern news/entertainment sector.

->It takes a lot of work, but you can occasionally get a few individuals to reconsider some of their stances and apply at least a bit of logic to their political thinking. I'll be honest, doing that even once a month is more rewarding than constant intellectual discussion on more civil subreddits.
