* A meta example: Creator/RogerEbert has stated that Welles' decision to give himself a tiny credit as Kane was an example of false modesty, but he did something else that shows genuine modesty. The last credit in the film, on one title card, reads, "Orson Welles -- Direction/Production. Gregg Toland, A.S.C. -- Director of Photography." This is completely unheard of, even to this day, but it's more amazing when you remember... Creator/OrsonWelles, one of Hollywood's most legendary examples of the AwesomeEgo... ''shared a credit!'' As Ebert said, it shows just how grateful Welles was for Toland's work on the film, some of the best cinematography of all time.

-->'''Bernstein:''' A fellow will remember a lot of things you wouldn't think he'd remember. You take me. One day, back in 1896, I was crossing over to Jersey on the ferry. And as we pulled out, there was another ferry pulling in. And on it there was a girl waiting to get off. [[WomanInWhite A white dress she had on. She was carrying a white parasol.]] I only saw her for one second. She didn't see me at all. But I'll bet a month hasn't gone by since that I hadn't thought of that girl.
