* Alternatively, the genetic engineering could have been based off of splicing bat and ape DNA (using an ape as the base and tacking on bat characteristics rather than starting with a bat and giving it longer legs), aiming for a creature with all the strength and intelligence of a primate and the sonar capabilities of bats. It is worth noting that the Future Predators are dangerous for 2 reasons. Firstly, their echo location allows them to spot prey before the prey knows it's there. Secondly, they seem to be quite intelligent allowing them to plan the ambush tactics they like to use. Losing the wings (or possibly just not gaining them in the first place) could have been a necessary trade off to get something clever enough to be able to use its skills effectively - brute force is one thing but force used intelligently is much harder to beat.

3. An actual creature that matches up with a mythological being just added more weight to that hypothesis, possibly enough to make investigating various mythical/legendary creatures worth it.
