As far as Ponyo being called a "goldfish", well, she looks like a variety of goldfish([[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oranda these ones]] in particular), though it could be read a bit a of wordplay, as "ningyo" (human fish) is one letter off from "kingyo" (goldfish) and Sousuke probably wouldn't know the difference anyways.
