** Considering that they are there, looking disheveled and still not with the females, it's safe to say that whatever happened, it wasn't something as "obvious" as we think. It could be that it started off being "fun" and then the females became, well... rather aggressive, which could have resulted in the brothers getting the hell out of there to get back to the ice cream truck in order to come in to help save the day (for the brief time they were able to).

** It could very well be possible that due to how they may have interacted with humans before, they probably assumed that no one would try it because they never had any difficulty with the humans before. As pointed out above, it's clear that they're the reason why we may have a fear of clowns. And if these space beings were mistaken for gods by early humans, it's safe to say no human in their right might would attempt to try to kill them and just try to flee from them if they can.
