* ''VideoGame/EternalFighterZero'', a fantastic doujin FightingGame, features several characters from diverse visual novels by Creator/KeyVisualArts such as ''[[VisualNovel/ONEKagayakuKisetsuE ONE ~ To The Radiant Season]]'', ''VisualNovel/{{Kanon}}'', ''MOON'' and ''VisualNovel/{{AIR}}''. These are stories that hardly have anything to do with combat, and despite, in EFZ they were all given amazing powers and fun fighting styles, referencing several aspect from the novels, as well as other fighting games, such as ''Franchise/StreetFighter'', ''VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters'' or ''VideoGame/GuiltyGear''.\\
Seeing 23 cute girls in action is both funny and heartwarming: funny because there they are, [[AdaptationalBadass throwing down spectacularly like martial arts masters]], Akiko Minase is particularly fun to play with, a nice and kind mom in her source material, is a funny character who fights using household items, and her "[[GargleBlaster Special Jam]]" still has the property of scaring away even the most {{Badass}} warrior; Mizuka Nagamori, a cheerful girl who worries about her friends, is also a powerful fighter with [[InstrumentOfMurder her cello]] and school bag, able to even pummel her opponents with a pillow; Misuzu Kamio: Sweet, innocent, shy... She's a strong and tricky character who places traps everywhere, and does not hesitate in using curses and poisons to drain her opponent's life bar; And Kano Kirishima, who wanted to be able to use magic, saw her wish fulfilled now that she's able to use elemental magic (And got the expertise of a skilled fighter as a bonus, by fighting with a MagicStaff), and she looks pretty happy... Seeing them fighting [[NoPlotNoProblem for no particular reason]] [[RuleOfFun is pretty fun]].\\
And it's heartwarming because of the fact that the characters come from diverse works by Creator/KeyVisualArts: Their works are famous for having [[{{Utsuge}} sad, depressing stories]] (To the point that, in ThisVeryWiki, they warn us to "bring tissues"), and the characters (specially the ones from ''VisualNovel/{{AIR}}'' and ''VisualNovel/{{Kanon}}'') are known to have psychological issues, [[DarkAndTroubledPast troubled backstories]], and in general, they have to go through a lot of pain and suffering to [[EarnYourHappyEnding earn their happy endings]], (And they do, which is very satisfactory), so, seeing them in this game, happy and probably having a good time fighting, feels good, it really touches your heart, specially if you're familiar with the original stories. You feel happy even for Kanna, if you are familiar with ''VisualNovel/{{AIR}}'', you don't mind her position as the resident SNKBoss. No need to "[[RunningGag bring tissues]]" anymore.

It may show its flaws more keenly in the current age of gaming, but it was so ambitious and it got so many things ''just right''. An enormous hand-crafted world chock full of things to find and a diverse system of gameplay with huge potential for fun despite (or perhaps because of) how unbalanced it was. More than anything, though, I'll remember how it steadfastly refused to hold your hand - dropping you in the middle of a small coastal village with only a brief tutorial and the vaguest of directions, and that's it. Even Oblivion and Skyrim at least gave you a compass pointer. Where should you go? What should you do? What is this strange land and what role are you supposed to play it in? That's entirely up to you. Never have I felt so powerless, yet so empowered.
