When you got five comedians trying their damnest to finish their tasks to please another comedian and his assistant, you'd better be certain that there's plenty of humour to go around. So much to go around, in fact, that it needs to be split up into separate pages.

to:

When you got five comedians trying Whips have historically been used as an instrument of control, dominance, oppression, and submission. Striking someone with a whip is a ATasteOfTheLash famous form of punishment in many cultures and the very sound of a whip cracking can be very intimidating. The physical pain or discomfort inflicted by the whip reinforces the dominance of the wielder over the recipient.

As such, whip-wielders in fiction are often someone with sadistic and domineering personalities. You can expect cruel and authoritarian character archetypes such as RepulsiveRingmaster, TheJailer, slave-owners, torturers, and commanders to carry and use a whip for
their damnest association with oppression and control. They usually LovesTheSoundOfScreaming and are Sadists and Hope Crushers. Often the whip is just a tool of torture, intimidation, or a ceremonial item, but sometimes these characters will also be able to finish use them effectively in serious combat or even use them as [[WeaponSpecialization their tasks to please another comedian weapon of choice]].

More exaggerated
and his assistant, you'd better comical examples give are when teachers, trainers, or mentors are shown to wield whips to symbolize their harshness in their disciplinary duties, making the saying "whip something/someone into shape" quite literal. Unusually occurs with archetypes like the DrillSergeantNasty, a SadisticTeacher, or a SternTeacher.

Because whips are a symbol of power and dominance, they're also often associated with UsefulNotes/BDSM, sensuality, and Dominatrix type characters and a common attribute of PowerDynamicsKink. Female whip wielders will often
be certain portrayed as sensual, haughty, cold, and domineering, often dressed in outfits that there's plenty of humour to go around. So much to go around, in fact, that it needs are Stripperiffic, HellBentForLeather, or resembling a dominatrix. Villainess tends to be split up into separate pages.sensual archetypes like TheBaroness, HotWitch, or TheVamp while the rare heroic examples can be a HeroicSeductress, a FemmeFatale, or an IceQueen.

Due to the whip's historical use as a tool of ranching and equestrianism, characters who exert control of beasts and animals (such as TheBeastmaster or DragonTamer) also commonly wield whips, to symbolize their dominance and mastery over the creatures they control. While using whips on animals can signify that BadPeopleAbuseAnimals, these types of characters don't necessarily have the cruel and sadistic traits associated with whips and be portrayed in a sympathetic light, such as showing to use the whip not as a punishment tool, but by using the sound of the whips cracking as a way to give commands to the beasts they control.

See ImprobableWeaponUser for a normal whip being used in combat. For custom weaponized versions of whips see WhipSword, LightningLash, and VineTentacles.

Ed mentions that “what’s the situation?” could be the new name of the show. Charlotte counters that it’s such a generic question that it could be the title of any show ever.
* Episode 48, Paul Williams, the NZ Taskmaster's Assistant comes onto the podcast and has a lovely conversation with Ed. At the end, however, Paul pounces and gets revenge for all of New Zealand by asking where Ed stores his gardening equipment and ridiculing how English people pronounce "shed".
* At the end of Episode 51 which features David Correos from Series/TaskmasterNZ, David debuts a new rap that he prepared specifically for his podcast appearance.
* Episode 76 discusses the first episode of series 13. Ed reveals that the duck finding task was a retooled version of a task that was originally intended for Champion of Champions 2, and that the bonus duck Judi found was an accidental leftover from the original task. When guest Desiree Burch asks Ed about the bonus duck, Ed admits his first reaction was irritation because he had failed to find it during his attempt.
* In Episode 80, Chris Ramsey confesses he hadn't seen any Taskmaster before he got cast. The reason? Pure spite. He has production offices right across the hall from Taskmaster at Avalon headquarters and he was miffed that no one ever thought to knock on his door to ask if he'd be interested in participating.
** Episode 83 with Rosie Ramsey, Chris' wife, sheds further light on the grudge as she reveals that not only did he not watch Taskmaster, he also stopped her and other members of his family from watching it.
* Episode 84 (discussing Series 13 episode 9) reveals that Ed Gamble was among the people Bridget contacted for facts about the Taskmaster. Ed was apparently completely baffled by the phone call, and says that watching the episode didn't really clear things up.
* In Episode 103, Creator/DaraOBriain spends most of the conversation grumbling over the fact that he was brought in to discuss "Long-Legged Lobster", which features some of his worst task attempts. He also mentions that part of his motivation to take part in Series 14 is the fact that he lives right down the street from the Taskmaster House, similar to Al Murray, so getting to-and-from set was easy.

* Series 12 featured special promotional tasks sponsored by Google, which had a couple of corkers.
** Al Murray makes a triumphant return, demonstrating -- yet again -- that he can't accept the fact that he's no longer on the show.
** One of the tasks involves getting a teacher to make an origami boat, and Al and Desiree need to work out which of the two strangers in the room is the teacher. Desiree demonstrates that she speaks a bit of French. However, she fails to realize that the Frenchman wasn't the teacher until the task had been completed.
** After Desiree is announced the winner of the "Eat the malina"raspberry" in various Slavic languages like Czech or Slovenian, don't eat the パイナップルJapanese for pineapple" task, Al immediately grabs some pineapple slices, stuffs them into his mouth, and challenges Alex to disqualify him.

* Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire: In Literature/AStormOfSwords, when Daenerys buys a BadassArmy of slaves, it's represented by the transfer of an ornate whip called harpy's fingers, an intricate cat o' nine tails whip inlaid with gold. As soon as she has it in hand, she lashes the slave master across the face and orders the army to kill its former owners.
* Literature/TheTalisman: Osmond, Morgan of Orris's right-hand man, carries a very nasty whip similar to a cat o' nine tails, and demonstrates his sadistic side by whipping a wagon driver to death for the crime of spilling a load of ale.

* TabletopGame/DungeonsAndDragons: Balors, the greatest demons of the Abyss aside from outright AndArchdevils, ing a sword and flaming whip in combat. It's a nod to both their command over lesser demons and the balrogs that inspired them.
* TabletopGame/WarhammerFantasy and TabletopGame/Warhammer40000:
** The Lash of Submission is a Slaaneshi spell that temporarily brings an enemy squad under the caster's domination.
** 40K's Sisters Repentia are led by a Mistress, a Sister of Battle wielding neural whips. Although they use the whips against enemies, before the battle each Repentia is given a lash to motivate them.

* VideoGame/Dota2:
** The Queen of Pain, a sadistic demonic dominatrix, normally favors throwing knives as a weapon, but when equipped with the Eminence of Ristul, she gains a whip which she uses to attack at a short range.
** The Kobold Foreman neutral creep attacks with a whip. Combined with his name and speed-boosting ability, this gives the image of a harsh taskmaster who uses his whip to motivate his subjects to work faster.
* VideoGame/MarvelHeroes: Characters/WhiteQueen has the Astral Whip skill, where she lashes enemies with a psionically manifested whip. Combined with her ability to make an enemy her slave and her signature skill which mind controls enemies around her to get on their knees, she invokes a heavy Dominatrix theme.
* VideoGame/OctopathTravelerII: Mother, one of the antagonists of Throné’s route, wields a whip that she uses to punish Snakes who either disobey her, or fail in their missions. She also uses it in her OrphanageOfFear to keep the children she raises there in line. She also imbues the whip with darkness in her boss fight to inflict status debuffs on the party. In the first chapter of her story, Throné explains that she had been whipped so many times by Mother that she no longer feels pain.
* VideoGame/PokemonRedAndBlue: In the original games, Team Rocket grunts wield whips, which in addition to signifying BadPeopleAbuseAnimals, signified that their relationship to their Pokémon was one based in dominance or fear, as opposed to the mutual partnerships that the player characters are supposed to have. These were Bowdlerised in later games, including Red and Blues remakes.
* VideoGame/StarCraft: The emblem of the Sons of Korhal is an arm wielding a whip. They style themselves as LaResistance fighting the corrupt and oppressive Confederacy, but no sooner does victory over the Confederacy become certain than their leader, Arcturus Mengsk, reveals himself to be a megalomaniacal dictator no better than the Confederates he just overthrew. Come VideoGame/StarCraftII, he's rebuilt his rebels into the Terran Dominion, which has an emblem which is clearly inspired by the earlier whip emblem, but more stylized so it looks more like an abstract shape, though still utilizing RedAndBlackTotalitarianism.
* VideoGame/SoulSeries: Ivy is a British BlueBlood who is introduced in the series as a cold, haughty, domineering EvilBrit, dressed in a Stripperific and dominatrix take on old British aristocratic garb, wielding a WhipSword in combat. Her taunts and movesets all emphasize the dominatrix inspiration, which includes a grapple that forces the opponent on all fours, at which point she sits on them and says "Learn. Your. Place."
* In VideoGame/Terraria, whips are associated with the Summoner playstyle, allowing the player to better control their summoned creatures: whipped enemies are afflicted with a debuff that makes them take extra damage from summons, and the summons will focus their attacks on the last enemy you whipped.
* VideoGame/Warframe: Khora, a dominatrix-like beastmaster Warframe, can command living metal like a whip, using it both to attack enemies with her Whipclaw ability, and restrain them with Ensnare.

* Franchise/AceAttorney: Franziska von Karma is a cold, haughty, and domineering AmoralAttorney who constantly carries a whip with her, which she uses on anyone who provokes her wrath, even inside the courtroom and when the judge protests she even whips him into compliance and she gets away with it only due to RuleOfFunny. The absurdity of this behavior becomes a RunningGag, to the point that when she's seen as a teenager it reveals she wielded a cattle prod in the same manner. Her favorite victims are Phoenix and Gumshoe -- she seems to consider it almost affectionate, by the end, never mind that that thing hurts -- only eight-year-old Pearl Fey (which probably would have killed any possible sympathy for her,) paralyzed-from-the-waist-down Acro, middle-aged (and not the picture of health) Sister Bikini, Godot, who simply shamed her into compliance, and Detective Badd (who swayed out of the way) manage to escape unscathed. Shi-Long Lang caught the whip when Frannie first tried to use it on him, but fell victim to it later in the case.
* VisualNovel/MajikoiLoveMeSeriously: Umeko Kajoma is Class 2F's homeroom teacher and is a major SternTeacher who uses an actual whip in class for disciplinary purposes, cracking her whip whenever she wants to get the attention or intimidate someone in particular. Comically, many of the male students find her incredibly attractive in large thanks to this, as her treatment has "awakened" their dormant masochist tendencies.

* WesternAnimation/Madeline: In "Madeline and the Bad Hat", Pepito carries a whip when he discusses the ways he mistreats his pets in song form. Though he ditches the whip (as well as his hat) when he becomes nicer.
* WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse: Holly Blue Agate is a physically and verbally abusive overseer at Pink Diamond's zoo who wields an electrified whip.

* Taskmaster Australia [=S1E2=]: "Call an older family member and make them hang up on you. If they suspect you want them to hang up on you, you will be disqualified." The aim is to have the other person hang up on you in the shortest time. Luke [=McGregor=] calls his mother and she talks to him for twenty minutes, covering thirty-six separate topics, including the stock market and the sequel to Film/Avatar. Danielle Walker, meanwhile, deliberately disqualifies herself after she realises she might be making her Nan think she was in real danger.
* Taskmaster Australia [=S1E5=]: A task requires the contestants to collect 26 roses by telling Tom Cashman a correct password for each rose. The secret rule was that each password had to begin with a different letter of the alphabet, which all five contestants are hilariously slow in realizing.
** Nina wrongly thinks she's figured out the rules at one point and goes into what can best be described as a 7-second long HeroicBSOD when Tom Cashman rejects her latest password guess.
** One of Julia's successful password guesses is "Jesus" which leads her to ask Tom incredulously, "Have you accepted Jesus?" According to Tom, she also guessed the c-word four times and needed 87 guesses for the last password after deciding that methodically going through the alphabet would be too boring.
** Jimmy gets so frustrated that he flops down onto the ground at one point and then gets visibly annoyed at having to get back up after actually getting a correct password.
--->Tom Gleason: I think there's a certain irony there because you worked for children's TV for so long and you started to behave like the people who watched you.
** Luke inexplicably tries to guess Franchise/TheMatrix movie titles 17 times and ultimately resorts to playing rock-paper-scissors with Tom to get the last password. Then it's revealed that he obliviously dropped two roses and the only defense he gives for this is, "I have hayfever."
--->Tom G: Luke, if people wanted to hack into your social media, I reckon if they just tried out various variations of The Matrix movies they might get straight in there.\\
Luke: If they add in 69, they'd be straight through.
** Danielle's attempt, however, is by far the most EpicFail. She actually breezes through the first 23 passwords without a single misstep, only to then need nearly two hours to get the last 3 passwords. By the end, Tom is visibly cramping from having to stand in place for so long and giving Danielle increasingly unsubtle clues that fly right over her head.
