General clarification on work content

** As noted above, God may be atemporal, but created beings in the universe are not. If something happened 'before' ''for us'' then it affects us, and if it happens 'after' then it does not. God may perceive the 'before,' 'now,' and 'after' moments as one big thing all at once, but that doesn't mean there's no cause and effect for us mortals.
** Perhaps what Jesus becoming human imprinted was that intelligence would take a 'generally' humanoid body plan, that everything would start to resemble him in general, not in exact details.

* In [[Literature/TheBible the book of Revelation]], Jesus promises that the one who overcomes will inherit the morning star, which is another name for Venus (Perelandra in Literature/TheSpaceTrilogy.) In Second Corinthians, Paul mentions someone who was caught up into the third heaven, which could also correspond to Perelandra.

* In [[Literature/TheBible the book of Genesis]], God tells the serpent "I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel." The serpent is commonly thought to be Satan. In ''Perelandra'', the Un-Man (a representative of Satan) bites Ransom's heel, and Ransom crushes the Un-Man's head with a rock. Very clever, Pr. Lewis.

*** I feel like it's that God tells us to love others regardless of their appearance because they wind up looking different, rater than that God makes other people look different so that they can tell us to love them in spite of this. In fact it sounds pretty weird and arbitrary that way.

** God, yes. Us, no. Jesus being born and dying as a human is a unique event in all history, one that changes everything - so it sort of does make sense. Ish. Might have been just an excuse to have HumanAliens, really. As to making all faces identical, this would be a bit beside the point when you're supposed to love others no matter what they look like.

* So if Jesus becoming human means that all sapient races younger than us will be HumanAliens from now on, because what else would they look like, then wouldn't that same train of thought mean that all individual humans should have the same physical and facial features as Jesus too? Additionally, Pr. Lewis was well aware that God is held to be Atemporal in Christian Theology, so why are only the races that are born ''after'' humans affected in this way?

** Similarly, this lends new significance to its habit of attacking the flora and fauna of Perelandra. Not only is it giving vent to its malice, but it is also trying to blot out the message that it so desperately wishes not to receive.

* The Un-Man's clear desire in ''Perelandra'' to shut off its mind whenever it's not actively using its intelligence to seduce the Green Lady makes even more sense when you recall some passages in ''A Preface To Paradise Lost'' where Lewis discusses how one of the things the Fallen most hate is to be reminded of what they once had. That portion of the Devil inhabiting Weston's body is in an unfallen world. Everything around it, every bird and beast and tree and blade of grass, is a reminder of the Heaven that the Devil lost by its own actions. No wonder it has no wish to think about the world around it.
