* If you do some snooping in Maven Black-Briar's home, you'll eventually find a tiny, private little room where she's been performing the Black Sacrament. Nearby is a letter to [[DarkActionGirl Astrid]] with Maven absolutely seething over her apparent failure to kill an unnamed target. There's a lot to unpack here so let's get started:
** First of all, Maven seems to be under the delusion (or perhaps a genuine belief) that she controls the Dark Brotherhood. Anyone who's actually done that questline would know that Astrid doesn't like to share power. In fact, Astrid doesn't mention the Black-Briar matriarch at any point during so it's likely that their professional relationship isn't as written in stone as Maven believes.
** Secondly, it's more than likely that Astrid simply doesn't respond to Maven's requests out of spite since the latter really has no leverage over them. What's Maven going to do? Publicly complain that the insane murder cult isn't following her orders? Disparage them and paint a target on her own back?
** Finally at the end of the Dark Brotherhood questline, Astrid is dead. The player is the Listener now and the Brotherhood has risen back up from cutthroats back to their proper place in the world. If they were ever "subservient" to Maven, they have no more need for her because the Night Mother is calling the shots again. Maven isn't special, after all what's a local crime boss compared to the Emperor of Tamriel who they've already killed?

* There is some debate over whether ''Dovahkiin'' means "Dragonborn" (as used by everyone who doesn’t use the "''Dovahkiin''") or "Dragonkind Hunter Born" (which uses three words, just as with dragon names, and every dragon seems to view you as another dragon). But it actually makes perfect sense for the word to mean [[DoubleMeaning ''both'']]. A "''Dovah''" (Dragon) is also a "''Dov Ah''" (Dragonkind Hunter), because dragons are constantly struggling for dominance over each other, and the only thing that can hunt a dragon is another dragon. The army of mortals cannot hurt the dragon, so they can't really hunt it either. All they can do is weaken it so it is easier for an actual threat to come and slay it. The Dragonborn is described as having the soul of a dragon, so they essentially ''are'' a dragon.

* It may seem oddly cruel of Akatosh to have allowed Vyrthur to contract vampirism, and Vyrthur’s actions in response could be argued as being justified. But there are some subtle implications that Akatosh is quick to withdraw his favor from those he deems unworthy. Akatosh/Auri-El most likely knew the kind of person Vyrthur was and sought to punish him for it in some form, regardless of his service; while Gelebor’s unwavering loyalty, diligence, and overall kindness has kept Akatosh’s favor with him.
* It's no accident that the questline to defeat Alduin demands that you either secure Whiterun for one side or negotiate a temporary truce. The prophecy of Alduin's return states that he will return when "Snow-Throat lies sundered, kingless, bleeding" - in other words, while the Stormcloak Rebellion is ongoing. By securing Whiterun, you begin the inevitable slide toward on side's victory over the other, while in calling the truce, you effectively halt the war. Either way, Snow-Throat (Monavhen, the Throat of the World) is essentially no longer "bleeding;" the war is either favoring one side decisively or put to a halt. The conditions satisfying the prophecy are no longer in effect, Alduin will not return, and the doom-driven hero is set to put an end to the World-Eater.

** Not to mention that Stormcloaks specifically, being "True Nords", don't really deal with mages or stealth tactics. It's fully in-character for them to just rush in blindly and hope brute force wins the day. And for the Imperials, who live in a world where it's perfectly normal for one or two guys to solo half an attacking army there's no real point in trebuchets or advanced tactics. Just get in there and hold the line as best you can.
