** It should be noted that this is more obvious in the 3DS version. [[spoiler: Turning on the 3D makes the colors brighter within the Big Arm, showing that it is in fact Classic Eggman in there. Additionally, the speech bubbles before the fight with Metal Sonic and after the Big Arm are yellow. Yellow text bubbles are given to classic characters while blue ones are given to modern characters ]]

** Metallic Madness does not have any generators shown in Mania, although there is no time travel involved unlike Stardust Speedway. Both acts take place in the present, where the robot generator would not be active.

* Imagine how the game looks like from Classic Sonic's perspective. Most of the locations are stuff he could have easily figured out on his own - running across a city, or a beach, or visiting a festival isn't out of the question for his future. Nor is wrecking Eggman's bases. And suddenly there is Crisis City. At this point in his life Sonic isn't in the "fight gods" phase of his adventures yet (pretty sure the Time Eater is his first one). Imagine the sheer whiplash from being thrown from vaguely familiar locations fighting badniks to being thrown into a post-apocalyptic wasteland where everything is ruined, the landscape is swallowed by fire tornadoes and there are demons made of fire everywhere. What the hell happened here!?

* Silver's appearance in the ending. Why does Silver remember Sonic & live in Crisis City? Simple, the events of Sonic 06 need to occur in order for Sonic to hit the ResetButton at the end of the game, so Silver's timeline still exists in order to prevent a TimeParadox. This also explains why Silver hasn't appeared in the main series since that game, as his timeline diverged with causing Iblis to be unleashed. With that in mind, the happy ending of Sonic 06 was actually a BittersweetEnding from Silver's perspective, because he was still living in a post-apocalyptic wasteland -- now without Blaze -- and if he travelled back to the point of VideoGame/SonicUnleashed or VideoGame/SonicColors in the timeline, he'd be there after had already occurred... But because of the Time Eater's actions, he was taken from Crisis City in the future & placed in the void alongside the rest of Sonic's friends, now from after the divergence of the timelines. So why doesn't he return to his native time after the Time Eater's defeat? For the same reason Marty McFly doesn't return to the 1985 where his dad's still being bullied by Biff; he's now at a point where the future has changed. In other words, it took five years, but Silver finally got a happy ending!

** Apparently, some people here haven't actually played Sonic CD. Although it may be difficult to hold on to 50 rings, the Special Stage Ring can and will pop up in Metallic Madness Acts 1 and 2, in both the original and the 2011 remake. In short: Sonic can race Metal in the Bad Future, then get the last 1 or 2 Time Stones in Metallic Madness to obtain the Good Ending. Besides, the manual for the game states that Little Planet ignores the flow of time, thanks to the Time Stones. If anything, that may mean that, while Sonic DID free the planet from Eggman's control and get all seven Time Stones before the bad doctor could, the planet can still potentially time travel to its bad future state. After all, it's not like Eggman's influence from the planet was completely wiped out, since the giant Eggman statue in Stardust Speedway's present, as well as Metallic Madness — Eggman's base — still exist. (On the flipside, its bad future appearance may serve as a warning to the planet's onlookers about what will happen if they aren't careful about the environment.)

** The blow is lessened with Sonic Mania where Sonic/Tails/Knuckles ends Stardust Speedway act 1 by destroying the robot generator before traveling to the present, thus guaranteeing a good future there. Since this occurs after the events of CD, it can be inferred that Sonic is making sure the future is right this time!

** Due to Eggman's messing with time, this game created a split timeline where Classic Sonic and friends are now from a different continuity than Modern Sonic. What is Classic Sonic's next game after Generations? Sonic Mania, one of the highest rated games in the entire franchise! So Classic Sonic's future is indeed going to be great!

* Modern Super Sonic's boost rapidly draining the ring counter makes him rather inconvenient and lackluster to use. However, this makes sense. Generations is the first 3D game that allows you to use Super Sonic in levels officially after Colors. However, Colors' boost was powered by Wisps, whereas Generations' boost is powered by rings, like in Unleashed. Thus, this is the first time Sonic is boosting in his super form off of ring power, explaining the rapid drop; he's not used to doing it!
