**Perhaps the entire purpose of loopers is to shuttle silver and gold bars from the future to the present?

* Why get the loopers to kill anyone - They obviously have a location targeting system for the Looper to wait at, why not just dump them in the middle of the Pacific?

* They say the Looper business started when killing and disposing a body becomes nigh-impossible in the future. But when the syndicate tried to kidnap Old Joe to send him back to the past, they also shot his wife. If they could kill and dispose of her body in the future anyway, why bother with Loopers? And if they dispose her body by sending her back in the past, why send living targets for Loopers to take care of?

* The Rainmaker [[spoiler: is implied to have definitely turned bad when his mother gets killed by Old Joe.]] However, [[spoiler: Current Joe killing himself]] should have negated his existence, [[spoiler: making the whole Looper system never have been created and making the circumstances in which Current Joe does this impossible. Unless, that is, saving The Rainmaker's mother wasn't enough to turn him towards a better path (he was a pretty messed up child, after all), and he [[ShootTheShaggyDog turns]] [[DownerEnding bad anyways]].]]

* Why use a specially-designed longarm to perform executions when a sawed-off double-barreled shotgun would be cheaper, easier to conceal in transit, and less traceable? RuleOfCool, admittedly. As to why it can be pumped without a working slide or visible magazine tube, [[SpecialEffectsFailure well.]]

* In the beginning, the TK powers seemed like a tacked-on bit of background info for futuristic aesthetics. Even after the Rainmaker is revealed, it remains auxiliary to Joe's redemption story. Old Joe wishes to [[spoiler:save his wife and redeem himself by]] eliminating the Rainmaker, but Young Joe evokes FridgeLogic [[spoiler:by saying that they could avoid ever meeting her, thus stopping her death.]] Old Joe is shifting the blame for her death unto the Rainmaker (and trying to evoke a genre change) because he is unwilling to let go. He is unwilling to let go of [[spoiler:his wife as well as]] his tendency to solve all his problems with a gun. [[spoiler:While Young Joe seems to want to help the boy avoid becoming a BBEG, Old Joe is unwilling to accept it.]] By recognizing that his stubborn and destructive tendencies through his older self, Young Joe is able to complete his redemption story by letting go of everything.
* At the core of the time travel, it's Seth who ultimately starts the entire story. Old Joe is shown to have lived a complete life, closing his loop successfully. The reason Young Joe ended up with an Old Joe who wants to live is because Old Joe meets his wife in China. Why did Joe go to China? Because Abe told him to when he pulled Young Joe into his office to talk about Seth.

* [[spoiler:Not everyone has to be buried. If the crime rings would just learn to burn the bodies in their own time,]] [[AnthropicPrinciple this whole thing could be averted.]]

* [[spoiler: Cid is (might be)]] the [[MeaningfulName Rain]][[TheDreaded maker]]. [[spoiler: Think about [[RainOfBlood his]] [[LudicrousGibs modus]] [[YourHeadAsplode operandi]]. [[NightmareFuel Let the name sink back in for a second]].]]
** Was this not quite obvious yet half way through the movie?
*** It is in fact directly stated repeatedly as a major part of several conversations.

* When explaining the Rainmaker, Old Joe says that he's rumoured to possess a synthetic jaw. Later in the film, [[spoiler: Old Joe opens fire on Cid, grazing his face in the process; assuming Young Joe's prediction of the future was accurate and Cid really would have escaped onto a passing train, it's likely that quite a while would have passed before he sought out medical attention... resulting in an infected wound. Taking into account [[CrapsackWorld the nature of this setting]], he probably wouldn't have found anyone willing to help him for quite a while, allowing time for his injury to turn gangrenous; either he used his telekinesis to threaten some BackAlleyDoctor into treating him, or he got taken in by a crime syndicate who'd be willing to pay his medical bills in exchange for his loyalty- either way, his jaw probably ended up being amputated during the surgery. Thirty years on, a superpowered homeless man/psychic assassin with a rather distinctive facial prosthetic takes revenge on the world.]] Guess that rumour might be a bit more accurate than you thought, Old Joe...
** Also foreshadowed when Sarah explains that out in the farmland, injuries have to be disinfected as quickly as possible; she even remarks that "things just fall off." For good measure, at the end of the film [[spoiler: Sarah very carefully cleans and bandages Cid's wound- another thing Rainmaker!Cid presumably missed out on.]]

* The Loopers' contracts seemingly aren't closed for any particular reason in their ''present'' time. Young Joe mentiones that ''if'' you are still alive in 30 years time you are collected and sent back; but paradoxically if you've died then you can't have been sent back to close your loop. There's no mention of a Looper just giving up and trying to run before their loop is closed, implying that the Syndicate is willing to change their timeline enough that they're perpetually trapped in the 30-year cycle. Their loop is closed because of what happens in the ''future''. Maybe in the future the police have tracked you down and asked you to testify against the Syndicate, or similar circumstances lead to the Syndicate wanting you dead. Maybe you don't even get 30 years; maybe they lied to make the deal seem fairer, and you are only sent sufficiently far back to look 'old' to your younger self. In the film we see a sharp increase in closed loops, because in the future the Rainmaker takes over and has every Looper rounded up and send back to be murdered. Joe himself may have only been located and sent back because he recieved critical information about the Rainmaker's birth.
