** At first glance, it would seem like the number of vampires that smoke is actually rather astounding... until you realize that the health problems caused by such are no longer a concern, thanks to immortality.
*** AddictionDisplacement is probably to blame as well.
*** And with virtually no one eating solid food anymore, farmers might as well grow tobacco, so it's probably a whole lot cheaper.
*** That would be interesting to see in this universe - the vamps would be harvesting at night.

* There's really some serious FridgeHorror to the revelation that the girl at the beginning of the film is Patient Zero, when you think about it for a moment. Putting together some of the information in promotional materials, it's not too hard to reconstruct what happened. With her apparently being an American and the natural host of the virus being ''Desmodus rotundus'' (the common vampire bat), her family were probably on some sort of trip when their daughter fell ill. Presumably, for her to have even survived, that initial transmission from animal to human couldn't have been as dramatic as the human-to-human transmission we see later. Within a few hours, though, it would have become obvious that something was very wrong with their preteen child, regardless. She would have been old enough to understand that, too, and none of them would have had a clue what was going on. Just that she felt pain after exposure to sunlight, that her teeth were growing and changing in shape for no apparent reason (which would likely be agonizing), and that she suddenly had cravings for blood. There's a decent chance she wouldn't have even mentioned that last part at first, out of a fear that she was losing her mind. Official graphics showing the spread of the virus suggest that it started in the Los Angeles area, so her family probably brought her home to seek medical treatment, and then...well, what happened then is left to the imagination, but "where was her family during the intro?" really does turn into a horrifying question, all things considered. She was still apparently living in her childhood home even though she was old enough to live alone, after all, with all the furnishings left the same ten years on. When you consider who would have probably been the closest living people when the desire to drink ''someone's'' blood became entirely irrepressible, and how frenzied a starving vampire becomes, it gets hard to picture an answer to that question that isn't heartbreaking and awful.

* Naturally enough, the car which the heroes drive away in at the end is a classic Pontiac Firebird, complete with the iconic Firebird painting - a ''phoenix'' - on its hood. Elvis's restoration to humanity came about because he literally caught fire and was reborn.

* This movie shows why most vampires in fiction go for a Behind the scenes rulership than a turn the world strategy, a world of vampires would be fully unsustainable due to vampires only needing a VERY specific kind of food, which if most of the world need would run out very fast, hence the usual vampire trope of power behind the throne.
* One wonders if the parents even care their child committed suicide at the beginning of the movie?

*** Most of their armor doesn't really seem all that ''advanced'', just very specifically catered to hold out UV rays (the anti-sunlight helmet is really just a metal case with a camera and a screen on the inside). Most of their tech isn't too far advanced from what it is now, just catered to a specific task. Combine that with the reality that [[http://youtu.be/1nLRymWv-CA a modern crossbow bolt can penetrate IIIA body armor]] and stab vests are intended to stop handheld blade strikes, not pointy projectiles, one can see how modern armor simply wouldn't be all that effective against their prey's weapons of choice.

*** Bullets may not kill them, but they may suffer temporary wounds that splatter blood around before they heal. With a crippling blood-shortage going on and most of their fellow soldiers half-starved, spraying the red stuff all over is probably not a good thing even if the leaks do plug themselves within seconds.

* The vampire military hasn't thought to try developing stake-proof vests. Modern police have developed stab vests, how much modification would they take to resist stakes as well? Also why do they wear helmets? Wouldn't getting shot in the head have no effect on them?
** It veers into wall-banger territory when close-ups show that their [[WeWillWearArmorInTheFuture futuristic armor]] clearly has ''armored shoulder pads'' but no heart-covering stake-proof plating.
