* RecurringRiff: Happens quite a few times from game-to-game. Bits of "Devils Never Cry", the main theme of 3, tend to work their way into music for battles or cutscenes involving Vergil in 3. "Dance With Devils", the intro of 2, has its octave changed to serve as "Evil Tower" (the theme of the battle with Nefasturris) while its guitar riff and OminousLatinChanting respectively are featured in "Shoot The Works" (Dante's second battle theme) and "Cry For The Moon" (Arius' boss theme). Dante's battle theme in 4 is a remix of "Lock & Load", his second battle theme in the original game.

Added DiffLines:

** The first game does it in the game manual, in an anecdote of one of Dante's human neighbors describing what Dante does for a living and how scary a DeathGlare Dante can pull off.

** Special mention to Phantom's appearance in 2. There's no build up to it, only a cut scene depicting him falling from a the sky. Dante doesn't even make any comment about it, despite having killed him some time before in the first game.

Taking place in the modern day, the games revolve around Dante, the AntiHero HalfHumanHybrid DemonSlaying son of an AscendedDemon named Sparda. Thousands of years ago, Sparda sealed away his fellow demons and freed the human world from their control. However, Sparda eventually sappearedDaded, leaving behind a human wife named Eva and two HumanHybridbreed twins named Dante and Vergil. Without Sparda to protect them, Eva is soon murdered, Vergil becomes an AntiVillain obsessed with power, and Dante decides to work as a demon-hunting sword-for-hire so he can find the demons responsible for tearing apart his family and Revenge give them their just desserts.

Added DiffLines:

* MinimalistCast: All in all there's only really four characters. Dante, Trish, Vergil and Mundus (of which Vergil get's no lines). You might also count Phantom and Griffon as characters since they get a few lines but that still only six characters in total. A lot less than typical stories. We don't even see regular NPCs outside of the enemies.

Added DiffLines:

* MinimalistCast discounting the bosses who are fought once and killed with very little impact on the story, there are only four characters in total. Dante, Vergil, Lady and Arkham.

** Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening - Special Edition (2006): An UpdatedRerelease of Devil May Cry 3 that, among other things, added a mode where you could take Vergil through the main game (although lacking a proper story like Dante). It also added the Bloody Palace mode from 2, a Turbo mode, a different (albeit optional) continue system to make the game easier to complete, and renamed the difficulty levels so they would be more akin to the actual experience.

* AirGuitar: One of Nero's more S-level taunts is to strum an air guitar in front of his enemies. And if you stop and listen, it's actually making music.

** JackOfAllStats: Nero doesn’t have access to other weapons or Styles as the other characters do, but he also doesn’t have a lot of glaring weaknesses in mobility or defense, as he has both a dodge move and the ability to move himself or enemies around with his Devil Bringer. Furthermore, with his Red Queen’s Exceed gauge and his Devil Bringer attacks, he can upgrade his modest abilities to do a lot more damage.
