* GenreSavvy: Chon and Ben realize the cartels are going to have them killed if they work with them. They immediately get a bunch of Navy SEAL friends of Chon to help them plus start elaborate planning on contingencies. Doubles as ProperlyParanoia.

** WrongGenreSavvy: Elena completely fails to anticipate the above and assumes they're just a pair of goofballs.

** It's more the case of Ben and Chon are more GenreSavvy than she thinks. They're onto the fact they'd be liabilities from the beginning and destined for YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness. It's hard for her to take them seriously since they're seemingly just a pair of California boys rather than dangerous felons.

* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: Lado. He's the only member of the cartel who believes Ben and Chon were behind the heist that cost his group $3 million.
** Lado can also be spotted throughout the movie removing or neutralizing any weapons that might be used against him by the person he's speaking to--often before the audience even knows they're there.

The film more or less had a reception along the lines of SoOkayItsAverage and just barely broke even at the box office. It's also known for being Creator/BradJones' pick for [[WebVideo/MidnightScreenings worst film of 2012]]. Make of that as you will.
