* HumansAreBastards: Our heroes are not nice people. [[https://www.alluc.to/stream/Predators Predators]] are bastards to each other, too. The Preds picked Royce and the others because no one would miss them (being soldiers guilty of genocide or terrorism, heartless mercenaries, criminals, et cetera). Though technically neither Isabelle nor Nikolai are shown or mentioned as doing anything "evil", other than just being soldiers.

** Nikolai and Cuchillo are likely nods to the {{Starter Villain}}s of the first and second films.
*** Nikolai is a member of the Russian military, who served while under Soviet rule as advisors to the guerrillas before falling victim to Dutch's team in the first film.
*** Cuchillo is a member of a Hispanic cartel, which references to the Columbian cartel battling the police in the second film's ActionPrologue, Cuchillo even references the Columbian cartel's enforcer El Scorpio, down to relying on submachine GunsAkimbo, while [[HilariousInHindsight interestingly]] and retroactively, El Scorpio coincidentally resembles {{Film/Machete}} from the film of the same name which was directed by Creator/RobertRodriguez, the producer of this film, and features Creator/DannyTrejo, who plays Cuchillo, in the title role.

* MotherRussiaMakesYouStrong: Subverted by Nikolai, who is certainly physically tough, but he's also one of the most compassionate characters along with Isabella.

* AliensAreBastards: Played with, in the case of the Predators, who abduct humans and take them to a "hunting preserve" on a different world. However, they deliberately take humans that no one will miss ''and'' will put up a good fight - serial rapists and murderers with plenty of knowledge about hunting, soldiers who've committed war crimes, gangsters, cold-blooded mercenaries, {{Sociopathic Soldier}}s and disgraces, terrorists, et cetera...
** It's also shown that the Predators that are hunting the group are a separate group from the standard Predators we usually see (who are known for their focus on honor and nobility) and have ''far'' fewer morals than the others.

** To be fair, surviving by hiding and running is very different from surviving when you're actually confronted by a Predator and have nowhere to run.
** It could also be another indication of just how ''long'' he's been there. [[spoiler:Rather than continuing to toy with Noland, the Predator just up and shoots because he's sick of hunting him. There's no longer any sport in it.]]

** FridgeLogic: Real-Life recreational hunters know that especially effective methods, tools, and techniques are often not allowed by hunting regulations. Big Game hunters have a code that requires them be close to their prey despite the availability of guns that can kill from safe a distance. Deer hunters cannot hunt at night, and cannot spotlight their prey, etc. Given the Black Predators hunt in groups rather than alone, and use technologies such as the Falcon Drone, there is a very strong implication that they are their race's equivalent of poachers.

** Pay attention to his fighting style. He moves in on Mombasa like a cobra when he demands a gun, but it just shows viewers why he was left with a shiv. Also when he's set upon by the Tusker, and is battling Mombasa, his fighting style is a mimicry of the brutal savagery of violent convicts - especially the smaller ones for whom the sole rule is, grab something and don't slow down for ANYTHING.
** In the USA, it takes a ''lot'' to get put on Death Row nowadays, as Stans mentioned he was up for execution in two days, in California no less. In deleted scenes, Stans is a multiple murderer and quite likely to be a rapist too. He's as bad as any other killer.

* OhCrap: "Nice shot!" "...I missed." And they realize that they are ''so'' incredibly boned.

* GenreSavvy: The entire cast, by and large.
** The predators themselves get a special mention, though: the remote self-destruct on their ships seems to involve two or three button presses and involves no dramatic countdown or confirmation.
** Also Royce, in spades. He easily determines that the [[spoiler: dead body of Cuchillo]] is a trap. In fact, he figures out what is going on long before any of the others do, and accordingly, adjusts his tactics.

* TheSmartGuy: Edwin, the otherwise hapless medical doctor, is able to identify plants and their various effects. GenreSavvy as they all are, the others quickly assume he's there in the capacity of TheMedic.

''Predators'' is an action film released in 2010. It is the third instalment in the ''Franchise/{{Predator}}'' franchise, [[CanonDiscontinuity ignoring]] the ''Film/AlienVsPredator'' films.

* CanonDiscontinuity: This film ignores the two ''Film/AlienVsPredator'' movies, although WordOfGod is unclear if it disregarded ''Film/{{Predator 2}}'' as well (Isabelle doesn't mention the events of the second movie, for what it's worth, but there are some minor nods to it, and Noland was at one point intended to be Mike Harrigan from ''Predator 2''). The [[TheMerch NECA action figure]] for Berserker Predator, however, states that he was the youngest ever Predator to kill a Xenomorph, and that Tracker Predator and Falconer Predator are his Young Blood protégée.

** Noland also seems rather cooperative at first, filling in the group on how the game preserve works. [[spoiler:He later tries to kill them by smoke inhalation, in order to get their supplies. His imaginary friend implies he's done before.]]
