Following the [[JustInTime near-disaster]] from the end of [[Film/MissionImpossibleGhostProtocol the last movie]], CIA director Alan Hunley (Baldwin) convinces the US Senate that the IMF is a threat to public safety, forcing the IMF to disband and branding former IMF agent Ethan Hunt as having gone rogue. Now alone and with the CIA on his tail, Hunt must embark on a global quest to prove the existence of, and ultimately stop, an organisation of assassins and criminals known only as [[NebulousEvilOrganization The Syndicate.]]
