The theme song by Music/PaulMcCartney & Music/{{Wings}} is widely regarded as one of the series' all-time best, and has achieved a good deal of success independent of the film, being covered by Music/GunsNRoses and still played by [=McCartney=] today in his concerts. It's so famous that many younger people don't even know that it came from a Bond film.

It's one of the more [[LoveItOrHateIt polarizing]] ''Bond'' films. Some like it for its change of pace it's the first time Bond deals with both organized crime and the supernatural (and, it's the first film since ''Film/{{Goldfinger}}'' to not involve [=SPECTRE=]) while others feel it was simply a {{Blaxploitation}} film with the 007 logo slapped on the front. It is noteworthy in that amongst the things it did to try and distance it from the "silliness" of the Creator/SeanConnery era, it didn't include a scene with Q (he's mentioned though). This is a bit undermined by the fact that it's still ''a film about voodoo,'' down to including what is implied to be the real Baron Samedi. Plus, the gadgets used were further over the top than seen before.

* WhereDaWhiteWomenAt: The black villain Kanaga is enraged that Bond has seduced his Caucasian mistress Solitaire, outright stating that ''he'' was to be the one to take her virginity. The racial difference adds some serious unfortunate implications to the typical "Bond rescues the DamselInDistress" situation.

* AbsenteeActor: Q is absent from the film. Desmond Llewelyn was then appearing in the show ''Follyfoot'', but was written out of three episodes to appear in the film. The producers decided not to include the character, feeling that "too much was being made of the films' gadgets", and decided to downplay this aspect of the series, much to Llewelyn's annoyance.
