The Green Lanterns are an intergalactic peacekeeping force, whose members are given a [[GreenLanternRing ring]] that "turns thought into reality." The greatest danger to the corps is Parallax, who represents fear and the yellow energy. When respected Corps member Abin Sur is fatally injured he lands on Earth and a new Green Lantern is called to take his place, Hal Jordan.

The film was intended to launch the DC Comics cinematic universe, a direct counterpart to the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse and more specifically to ''Film/IronMan''.

Having finally gotten rolling, the Film/DCExtendedUniverse is slated to give Green Lantern another shot at a standalone title - ''Green Lantern Corps'' - in 2020 (which in all probability will include at least Hal Jordan and John Stewart), but there are rumors that the character will appear earlier on in ''Justice League''. The solo film is slated to be an ensemble of films, with actors being sought to play Hal Jordan and John Stewart (among others).

The film was intended to launch the DC Comics cinematic universe, a direct counterpart to the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse and more specifically to ''Film/IronMan''. However, it was received poorly at the box office and by critics, leaving any sequels in limbo. 2013's ''Film/ManOfSteel'' starring Franchise/{{Superman}} was another shot at launching a shared DC movie-verse, and given the significantly better box office returns and the existence of ''Film/BatmanVSupermanDawnOfJustice'', it appears to be significantly more successful.
