* ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy: Two of the goons trying to kill El Mariachi miss him when he passes between them, literally inches from the barrels of their guns... ''and shoot each other in the chest''.

* HollywoodSilencer: Averted. This troper checked out a YouTube clip for reference, and it would appear that a Mac-10 (the uzi-like gun) with a supressor and subsonic ammunition would really sound like that.

Added DiffLines:

* AffectionateParody: Of low-budget Spanish-language action movies, most of which were released DirectToVideo stateside. The music played by the keyboardists in the bar is meant to sound like the exact kind of music in such films. This concept was lost on most American audiences, however.

* EverythingSoundsSexierInSpanish: Why the title was never translated to English for it's American release. Not only did it have the chićness of a foreign title, but ''The Guitar Player'' doesn't sound very exciting.

Added DiffLines:

* GratuitousSpanish: Averted with the dialogue itself, though it was written in English and then translated by Rodriguez's friend, but played straight with the title and why it wasn't translated for an American release. Not only did it have the chićness of a foreign title, but ''The Guitar Player'' doesn't sound very exciting.

* NoBudget: Before Columbia financed post-production (to create a Dolby Stereo track and clean up the picture), the production budget was $7,000 ($3,000 earned from Rodriguez being a human guinea pig for medical testing).

* ThrowItIn: The turtle, which was simply found by the road by a crew member one day. Also the dubbed line about free coconuts, which Rodriguez added when he realized they'd forgotten to film the Mariachi paying for the cococut.
