* BittersweetEnding: Harry and Lloyd are alone, being forced to walk home as their motorcycle broke, but happy about it. Even after their idiocy prevents them from getting a ride... in a bus full of supermodels who need someone to oil them! They had [[WhatCouldHaveBeen planned on shooting an alternate ending]] where they got on the bus, but JimCarrey disagreed, arguing that Lloyd was too stupid to consider it.

Added DiffLines:

** Jim Carrey is actually the worst victim of corpsing in that scene, laughing at his own joke before he even tells it.

* KindheartedSimpleton: Particularly Harry. Lloyd is arguably one due to how thoughtless and destructive he could be.

Added DiffLines:

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold. Lloyd. While he does come off as quite insensitive and careless, he does genuinely care about Harry.

Lloyd's life is turned around when he falls in love with Mary Swanson (Lauren Holly), a rich female client who leaves her briefcase at the airport. Lloyd talks Harry into going on a road trip to Colorado to return it. Thus, they hit the road in Harry's dog shaped, dog grooming van, unaware of what the briefcase is actually full of: ransom money, which means that Lloyd and Harry are being trailed by two hitmen, along with anybody else they piss off along the way.

He drinks it, much to his displeasure after doing so.

* TooDumbToLive: Ultimately averted with Harry and Lloyd, but it's really a wonder how they get themselves into so much crap and yet, manage to survive for so long.

* DearJohnLetter: Harry alludes to getting one from Fraida Felcher, although he calls it [[{{Malaproper}} a John Deere letter]]. It's obvious to everyone, even Harry himself, that she was cheating on him with Lloyd, although he pretends not to know until the end.

* BeatStillMyHeart / AndShowItToYou: During his dream sequence, Lloyd rips the Kung-fu Chef's heart out of his chest and shows it to him (before putting it in a doggy bag and giving it back).

* CaliforniaDoubling:
** Harry and Lloyd are supposed to be in Aspen, Colorado in the second half of the movie. Except the town they are in is actually Breckenridge. You can tell because Breckenridge has one main street where shops and restaurants are located with cross streets descending the hills on the east and west sides of the valley feeding into the main drag. Aspen is a town spread out across many blocks with rather busy traffic. Although both have ski resorts on one side of the town.
** In the scene where Harry and Lloyd are on the bed in the presidential suite, crying and blowing their noses with money, they are watching a commercial for Pacific Bell. If they are in a hotel in Aspen, CO there is no way they would have seen that commercial on a hotel TV when the ad is clearly for a company that serves the west coast. (U S WEST, now [=CenturyLink=], was the Baby Bell in Colorado.)
** The skiing scenes were clearly shot at Copper Mountain, not at an Aspen ski area. You can tell because the lift operators obviously wear Copper Mountain uniforms, not Aspen uniforms. Copper Mountain is over two hours drive from Aspen.
** The airport scenes in Rhode Island were filmed at Salt Lake City International Airport. In addition, Park City, Utah, doubles as Aspen during a few scenes set in town. Lloyd and Harry's apartment building is located in Salt Lake City, as is the building where Lloyd picks up Mary to drive her to the Airport. Finally, the building in Lloyd's Dream Sequence where he gives Mary her briefcase (and takes a peek at her rear) is La Caille, a gourmet restaurant and winery located just outside of Salt Lake City.
