* StepfordSmiler: Alvy is like this during the scene when a comic is pitching him on the type of (horrible, in Alvy's opinion) jokes he wants Alvy to write for him. [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by Alvy, who wonders in an InteriorMonologue how much longer he can keep the smile on his face.

* MinnesotaNice: The Wisconsin-born Annie is a combination of MinnesotaNice and ManicPixieDreamGirl. Also her relatives in the Easter dinner scene: "I can't believe this family... They're talking swap meets and boat basins and [[BreadEggsMilkSquick the old lady at the end of the table is a classic Jew hater.]]"

The film was originally written as a murder mystery, but Allen and editor Ralph Rosenblum chopped off the mystery parts, and turned the film into a romantic comedy being told by Alvy. Allen would later use the murder mystery plot for ''Manhattan Murder Mystery'', which starred Allen and Keaton as a married couple, which many consider a SpiritualSuccessor to ''Annie Hall''.

->''I thought of that old joke, y'know, the, this... this guy goes to a psychiatrist and says, "Doc, uh, my brother's crazy; he thinks he's a chicken." And, uh, the doctor says, "Well, why don't you turn him in?" The guy says, "I would, but I need the eggs." Well, I guess that's pretty much now how I feel about relationships; y'know, they're totally irrational, and crazy, and absurd, and... but, uh, I guess we keep goin' through it because, uh, most of us... need the eggs.''

'''''Annie Hall''''' (1977) is an American romantic comedy film directed by Creator/WoodyAllen from a script co-written with Marshall Brickman. One of Allen's most popular films, it won numerous awards at the time of its release, including four UsefulNotes/{{Academy Award}}s, and in 2002 Creator/RogerEbert referred to it as "just about everyone's favorite Woody Allen movie".
