Most members of the Aron line live in or on mountains and caves in Hoenn and Sinnoh, with Aggron claiming an entire mountain as their territory. There is also a small population of Aron and Lairon that has been introduced to the Johto Safari Zone. Recently, the Aron Line has made it to Unova, where they have established themselves within Misralton Cave and the Clay Road. Aron and Lairon tend to live closest to the mineral veins, whereas Aggron are found either patrolling the mountainside or digging for iron deep under the earth. A common feature of prime Aron line habitat is the presence of large amounts of iron ore deposits and springs of mineral water, both being important for the maintenance of their ferrous bodies. If food becomes scarce, however, they are known to leave to look for other sources of metal, leading to confrontations with humans.

The Aron and Larvitar lines are natural rivals, as both Aggron and Tyranitar are very territorial, though Aggron will win most fights due to its type advantage. However, Tyranitar's natural ferocity and ability to use Earthquake can sometimes alter the battle in its favor. Luckily, the ranges of these two extremely aggressive Pokémon rarely overlap, but when they do meet, the battles can be of cataclysmic proportions, especially if the Tyranitar wins. However, Aggron are rarely defeated by them, and the cataclysm is usually short-lived and followed by a period of peace, and sometimes even a good harvest.

However, Tyranitar's natural ferocity and ability to use Earthquake can sometimes alter the battle in its favor. Luckily, the ranges of these two extremely aggressive Pokémon rarely overlap, with the exception of western Sinnoh, but when they do meet, the battles can be of cataclysmic proportions, especially if the Tyranitar wins. However, Aggron are rarely defeated by them, and the cataclysm is usually short-lived and followed by a period of peace, and sometimes even a good harvest.

Aggron are even more territorial, attacking anything they perceive to be a threat or competition, and being one of the few Pokémon capable of taking on a wild Tyranitar in a pure strength battle. Upon seeing a potential threat, they will shed their armor and charge their real or imagined competition with surprising speed and then proceed to [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown beat their opponent into submission,]] often goring it with its horns or crushing it under its tail. At least a few people die every year from being killed by Aggron in various mountain ranges throughout the world. This is often because they are attacked faster than they can pull out a Pokémon to defend themselves, as they often attack from behind. [Trainer's Note: For this reason, if you are approached by a wild Aggron, do your best to appear as nonthreatening as possible and move slowly backwards, paying attention to its vocalizations. Once it turns around, move as quickly as possible away from the Pokémon.]
