* ''Synopsis'': A US Marine, apparently suffering PTSD after seeing combat on a tour in Iraq, goes AWOL, wraps his car around a tree while hearing the love of his life talk to him in his head, and finds that the nearest town is a quaint little place called Silent Hill.
* ''Comments'': Written by an actual Marine, ''The Bitter Season'' is, quite possibly, an even better take on the idea of a soldier's deep-seated, past guilts bringing him to Silent Hill than ''Homecoming,'' and this troper says this while planted firmly in the apparent minority of gamers who actually '''liked''' ''Homecoming.'' The fic is not without faults; the imagery is sometimes over-described to the point of {{Narm}}, especially when military words and things are in-focus, although this particular criticism should be taken with a grain of salt. In particular, the author doesn't seem to understand that two different characters should not share dialog in a single paragraph, but considering the frequency it occurs, this may be more of a weakness in proofreading. For possessing of such an elementary mistake, the big picture here is that the story is still excellent and well worth the time to read. The author has a very clear grasp of what he wants to do, and does it remarkably well, with solid imagery where it counts plus a tight grasp of the source material and literary technique in general. This troper was sold early-on when he realized the Marine [[spoiler: sees Silent Hill's Otherworld as a nightmarish Middle-East-style desert town,]] something the dialog lampshades, but long enough after the visuals start adding up that the astute reader will pick up on it first. Furthermore, the author is not at all afraid of breaking conventions and balances risk with originality very well. This troper can't remember the last time [[spoiler: a protagonist lost a limb, early on,]] with consequences both physically and symbolically, planned as an actual plot-point instead of as a cheap shock twist or torture-porn.
** [[{{Arktos}} This troper]] would like to point out that this story has been removed. According to the [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1330534/ClayPidgeon162 author's profile]], however, a rewrite may be in the works. Hmm...too delete this entry or not delete this entry, that is the question...

* ''Status'': Ongoing
* ''Synopsis'': Before James can leave the home he and Mary shared behind for good, there are wrongs to right and memories to unearth. Contained within is one last snag: what is he supposed to do with Laura? Set directly after the Leave Ending, but contains heavy implications of In Water.
* ''Comments'': Pretty well done continuation fic, with the author's portrayal of James' deteriorated state deserving credit. The pacing can be slow, but the atmosphere generated by the flashbacks to James' life before and during Mary's illness is fairly strong; with the elaboration upon his relationship with his father standing out in particular. The interaction with Laura and visceral flasbacks to the ordeals of Silent Hill itself really help this piece feel like a tangible expansion on the game's characters and scenario, rather than either a tired re-iteration or disconnected vignette.''
