* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: All of Jade's GenreSavvy is now working for the other side. For example, when she leaves Valmont behind to be arrested, she immediately clears out her lair (though she does make the mistake of [[spoiler: leaving Daolon Wong behind to be captured, though to be fair, this was due to "evil food poisoning" from EATING an Oni General distracting her, so she probably would have been more careful in her revenge]]).
** Ratso is also surprisingly GenreSavvy -- when Valmont double crosses Jade, he stays loyal to her, knowing that "these minion coups never work".
** Also, after seeing the ChronicBackstabbingDisorder afflicted Shendu betray his allies in the past, the Enforcers know not to trust him as far as they can throw him with the Ox and Rooster Talismans, and shoot down HIS offer of employment when attempting to steal the Talismans.
** Jade is also being careful to avoid classic WorldDomination plots, as she knows that that's a fast track towards someone making her SealedEvilInACan.
** After being weakened by her encounter with Lung, Jade decides to put the hunt for the masks on the back burner until she finds the remaining Teachings tablets and uses them to restore herself and gain power. But she's still sending her minions after the masks anyway, to keep the heroes distracted.
*** See also the TailorMadePrison she insisted on making for in case they ever caught a hero.
** Finn shows shades of this as well, as when he's using Kuro's mask to fight the heroes, he hangs back and uses the Squid Khan to wear the heroes down without having to risk himself.
** The Mexican mafia doesn't mess with magic [[PragmaticVillainy considering it too dangerous and unpredictable]]. Also, their apparent leader, "The Cuban" wisely decides to let Blankman leave and not interfere with the Shadow Hand, as he knew he couldn't afford a conflict.
** When in the Vault of Endless Night, Ratso and Chow fall into a monster-filled pit. Jade isn't worried, counting on how the Enforcers have a JokerImmunity, pointing out that they have a knack for living.
** She also realizes that she's about to [[TemptingFate tempt fate]] by saying that [[NothingCanStopUsNow she's about to win]] and stops herself (but the guardian is still released after she takes the tablet).
** She has also taken measures against having her [[WeaksauceWeakness vulnerability to onions]] being used against her, using her eye-covering bandanna to protect her eyes, and wearing a similar one over her mouth after Viper throws part of an onion down her throat.
** Anton Mortimer gets a few props for ''trying'', but his SmugSnake nature screws him over. Jade even gives him a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech on how [[LeaningOnTheFourthWall he's a MUCH less important character]] [[WrongGenreSavvy than he thought he was]].

** Also, even though Daolon Wong wasn't of any use to her, she didn't kill him (though she did keep him close and locked up, because she's DangerouslyGenreSavvy and remembers what happened when Shendu left Daolon Wong be after betraying him).

Hey, unlimited teleporting mooks plus DangerouslyGenreSavvy leadership pretty much equals EasyLogistics and UndisclosedFunds. [[spoiler:Even after Jade loses the ability to conjure more than her two elite Shadowkhan, the organization has more than enough cash flow to support their operations for the foreseeable future.]]
* TakeOverTheWorld: Subverted. The Enforcers assume that this is Jade's ultimate goal, like the previous {{Big Bad}}s they've worked for, but she's GenreSavvy enough to know that that never turns out well. She ''does'' suggest they [[ShinyNewAustralia take over Australia]] at one point, but then reveals that was just a joke.

** After her eyes are damaged by her torture at Lung's hands, Jade takes to wearing a blindfold to protect herself from bright lights that she is now quite sensitive too. Following her VillainousBreakdown, she upgrades this to a full mask taken from one of her Ninja Khan, which is both better at blocking out the light (which she now has a pathological aversion to) ''and'' has the pragmatic purpose of protecting her from onions.
** [[spoiler: Viper's transformation into Hebi comes complete with a set of samurai armor that she always wears.]]

* GameChanger: [[spoiler: After the events of Chapter 20, Jade decides its time for this. ** After the fight in the Hall of Ice, when he realizes that Jade has become quite unhinged, Tohru repeats the ceremony to reenter Jade's mind in order to try and understand what's happening. This time, he meets Desire, who explains that Paranoia's increasing influence over the Queen is causing Jade's mind to degrade even worse than it already was.

*** It goes even further than that -- it turns out the Elders only came to power by betraying and murdering the other females of the Shadowkhan, so that they could have sole power, and then erased all records of them, which Tarakudo later did to them in turn.

* ShoutOut: When Farmer [=MacDonald=] learns about Jade's FaceHeelTurn, he comments that she's "gone all [[StarWars Darth Vader]]".
** In the same chapter, when he learns about the Hana Fuda cards, he makes what might be a reference to ''Anime/YuGiOh''
** At one point, when the Enforcers are entering the mansion headquarters, one of the house ghouls [[Literature/AChristmasCarol appears on the front door's knocker; Finn refers to him as "Marley".]]
** When Ratso is trying to figure out how to use his mask's powers, he at one point blurts out "{{Shazam}}!"
*** In the same chapter, Jade compares taking advice from a mysterious voice (Tarakudo) to ''Series/CharliesAngels".
** The DreamSequence in the third Interlude chapter is partially inspired by the ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'' episode "Nightmares and Daydreams", according to WordOfGod. Also, when his attempts to communicate with Jade via the dream fail, Tarakudo comments that "[[StarWars Obi-Wan Kenobi]] never had this problem."
** Speaking of ''Avatar'', Left's use of a pair of broadswords is apparently based on Zuko's WeaponOfChoice.
** Ozeki's obsessive, fanatical loyalty to Jade (including referring to her as "the Royalty") and Jade's unease about it is meant to mirror [[WesternAnimation/BeastWars Inferno's relationship with Megatron]]. Though one could argue there's a bit of [[WesternAnimation/TransformersAnimated Lugnut]] in there as well.
*** Another ''Transformers'' reference -- during a flashback to Tarakudo's coup, he begins a duel with Hiruzen by stating that "[[TransformersTheMovie One shall rise,]] [[{{Film/Transformers}} one shall fall.]]"
** When he senses [[spoiler: Wong's death]], Verde compliments that it was a "good performance", but then states "[[{{Film/Batman}} wait till they get a load o' me.]]"
*** And for another Franchise/{{Batman}} shout out, during Jade's JourneyToTheCenterOfTheMind, when she meets Greed/Desire, she compares her appearance to Harvey Dent/Two-Face.
** During Lung's first appearance, Verde describes him as looking like "[[ComicStrip/FlashGordon Ming the Merciless']] Goth cousin."
** Speaking of Verde, the description given for him sounds an awful lot like [[Disney/ThePrincessAndTheFrog Dr. Facilier]].
*** [[WordOfGod According to the author]], however, this was purely a coincidence. Though he has admitted that his enjoyment of the movie is his reason for expanding on Verde's role in the story.
** Drago comments "[[StarWars Boring conversation anyway,]]" when shutting a blast door on Shendu.
** Karasu tells Tohru that he [[Series/{{Heroes}} looks different without his scars]].
*** In another possible ''Heroes'' shout out, the Matriarch has a pet snake named Mohinder.
** The scary doctor auditioning to be Jade's new foreman seems [[WesternAnimation/TheVentureBrothers awfully]] [[NoCelebritiesWereHarmed familiar...]]
** Viper dresses as Comicbook/{{Catwoman}} for Halloween, while El Toro wears a Franchise/{{Spider-Man}} mask when Hak Foo steals his.
*** At a different point in the chapter, El Toro asks Hak Foo and Finn if they are "[[Series/GameOfThrones men or snakes]]" for threatening Paco.
** Hero's original plan for building a boat involved catching [[Franchise/PiratesOfTheCaribbean sea turtles]].
** During their fight, Blankman can't resist [[Franchise/{{Zorro}} carving a Z into Jackie's shirt]].
** Ratso refers to the electro-swords as [[Franchise/StarWars lightsabers]].
** When the J-Team first enters the Vault of Endless Night, a zombie alters the other evils to their presence by pointing an arm at them and shrieking, much like the aliens in the 70s remake of ''Film/InvasionOfTheBodySnatchers''.
