Takamachi Nanoha is just your average nine year old girl thrust into an extraordinary situation, or so she thought.

After bringing Yunno home for the first time, the young mage-turned-ferret remarks to her how he felt strong magical power from Nanoha's mother, which would explain the incredible magical potential he felt from Nanoha. [[CassandraTruth Nanoha doesn't believe him]].

At the same time, her mother can feel her daughter's magic awakening, and [[SecretLegacy decides to reveal the truth when the time is right]].

That time ends up being during a confrontation between Nanoha and Fate, where she decides to intervene, [[IAmYourOpponent becoming Fate's new opponent]]. Fate is shocked at the strength of Nanoha's mother that she had to ask, "[[WhoAreYou Who are you]]?"

->"Who am I, you ask?" The woman smirked as she looked at Fate with her red and golden eyes. "My name is Lina Takamachi. But I used to be known as Lina Inverse."

!!Tropes Found In Blood That Flows:
[[folder: A-C]]
* AbsenceMakesTheHeartGoYonder: Lina was pretty much resigned [[YouCantGoHomeAgain to being stuck]] [[TrappedInAnotherWorld on Earth]]. She also ended up falling in love with Shiro who found her unconscious when she first arrived, got married, and had Nanoha. Thus when she learned the TSAB located her home universe, she knew her return was going to be hard for her old friends, especially Gourry, since it was her attempt to save him that started all this. She figured that there was a chance that Gourry and Syphiel got together. However, it gets more awkward when she returns home, as it turns out it's only been a month since that battle with Hellmaster.
* AccidentalHero: Xellos. See MinionWithAnFInEvil below.
* AccidentalPervert: Chrono takes Gourry's spot in looking under Filia's skirt after seeing her tail. It turns into a RunningGag with Chrono being in compromising positions with Filia.
* AchievementsInIgnorance: {{Lampshade|Hanging}}d by Kyrie when she was told by Amitie that she wanted to try stuff with eggplants.
--> '''Kyrie:''' "The last time you tried to do something with something you made a bomb... Out of cotton, and I still don't know how you got it to stick."
* ACupAngst: With Nanoha being the biological daughter of Lina Inverse, she got hit with this hard, especially when Vita [[SheIsAllGrownUp really grew up]].
* AffablyEvil: Dolphin, Zelas and Xellos, of course. There are times it's easy to forget that they are, in fact, creatures of pure evil. Then they go and randomly kill or curse people for [[ForTheEvulz no real reason.]]
* AliensMadeThemDoIt: Xellos and [[MsFanservice Rangort]], after being in a [[IntoxicationEnsues haze]] after eating chocolate filled with who knows what... for at least a month.
* [[AnArmAndALeg An Eye and a Hand]]: The price [[spoiler:Signum]] paid for attempting to knock out [[spoiler:Cinque]] instead of trying something dangerous. Later mentioned that [[spoiler:Cinque]] was barely able to hold her rage in check and was thankful that [[spoiler:Signum]] didn't try to attack her.
** [[spoiler:HandicappedBadass: Laevatein's original body was retrofitted into a cybernetic hand for Signum. Due to the newness of the hand, she was advised to only use Laevantein's blade form as anything more might have broken the new hand. Her depth perception is also hindered by the lack of an eye.]]
* ArcWelding: Original villain Death Bringer Garoth didn't just begin to play his hand during the events of A's. He was also responsible for the catastrophic failure of Precia's experiment and the corruption of the Book of Darkness.
* ArentYouGoingToRavishMe: A variant with [[spoiler:Rangort]], where she takes a WaterfallShower and all [[spoiler:Xellos]] does is be a [[ThePeepingTom peeping tom]]. This leads to [[spoiler:Rangort]] [[SlapSlapKiss dropping a mountain on]] [[spoiler:[[SlapSlapKiss Xellos]]]] [[SlapSlapKiss and then later directly insisting he "help her"]].
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking: Mazoku Lord Lucefer commented Lindy he created a plague that wiped out most of Europe a few hundred years ago, convinced Stalin that communism was lame, and [[FelonyMisdemeanor convinced Justin Beiber that he could sing]].
* ArtificialLimbs: After losing an eye and a hand to [[spoiler:Cinque's Rumble Detonator]], [[spoiler:Signum]]'s right hand is replaced with a cybernetic prosthesis created from [[spoiler:the melted down scraps of Laevatein's original framework]]. Her eye is a total loss, though, so she gets an eyepatch for that.
* AscendedExtra: Yunno, of course. This is one of the author's behind the Fanfic/RelationshipsSeries after all.
** So much so that he's an AdaptationalBadass by now.
** Shiro, who manages to hold his own when traveling with his family and friends through Lina's homeworld. It helps he temporally wielded the magic absorbing [[AbsurdlySharpBlade Blast Blade]] before relinquishing it to Gourry.
** The ''Shine'' arc tosses in Miyuki as the new owner of Gorun Nova and [[ThoseTwoGuys Suzuka and Arisa]], who finds themselves drawing the attention of Riksfalto.
* AdaptationDistillation: Plenty of it.
* AllYourBaseAreBelongToUs: The TSAB's Ground Forces HQ is taken over by Garoth so he can use it as the site of his master's unsealing. It later ends up {{collapsing|Lair}} after [[LoadBearingBoss Garoth is banished into the Sea of Chaos]].
** Hayate even [[LampshadeHanging lampshades it]].
* AwesomenessIsVolatile: Really... mixing the Dragon Slave with Nanoha-style magic? They were bad enough individually... but now...
-->From his position, Chrono floated up and gaped at the destruction. Where there was hills, flat area and some small bodies of water...
-->Was nothing but a large sunken hole in the ground that had some rocks that were glowing red. Well, that and the large amounts of glass that people were walking on. Other than that, he was certain that if they had gotten there a moment later, none of those girls would be alive, hell, he was almost certain that the continent would be split in two before the energy dissipated naturally.
** Chaos magic can do a lot of things, but it is unpredictable and has a nasty tendency of making its users go [[UnstoppableRage ber]][[AxCrazy serk]] the first time they use it, as anyone who was in the same area of Nanoha, Cinque and Dieci found out.
* BabiesEverAfter: Not only does ''Try'' have the original canon ending of Filia receiving the egg of the reborn Val, Lina announces that she's pregnant again.
** Not to mention Hayate becoming pregnant in the SSX arc due to being unisoned with Reinforce for so long. Rein is understandably confused.
* BackFromTheDead: Gaav, [[spoiler:only for him to [[BackForTheDead die again finally getting his revenge on Shabranigdo.]]]]
* BadBoss: Dynast Grausherra. At least, when he pretty much sees Sherra as worthless after being defeated by Xellos. Of course, he later try to use Sherra as a backup body when Lina vapes him with a Ragna Blade fired through Galveira. Zelas prevents his plan from succeeding though.
* BadassNormal: Shiro and Miyuki.
* BatmanGambit: Regius and Quint pull off a beautiful one near the end of [=StrikerS=]: Knowing that [[spoiler:the Brains]] have too many friends in high places, the two instead arrange for [[spoiler:Due]] to "escape" Riot Force custody. When Vita and Leti find her they also find them, and the Leti orders Vita to kill them. As it turned out, they're abominations to the natural order, and Bureau law mandates that such creatures are to be exterminated on sight.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Arisa asks the Fire Dragon King Vrabazaad to burn Yunno's clothes off, since it was his power that melted her pants, revealing her panties. The Shinzoku does so, but instead of a ShirtlessScene, Arisa's treated to Yunno [[MaleFrontalNudity in his birthday suit]].
* BigBad: Plenty of those throughout the course of the series, which is perfectly understandeable since the fanfic encompasses numerous arcs of two different anime series. One takes the cake though. [[spoiler:Levi, [[CameBackWrong Mazoku-revived Alicia Testarossa]], is the most recurrent and most repulsive one, appearing in numerous arcs to constantly threaten the universe, KickTheDog and escape after doing some lasting damage.]]
* BigDamnHeroes: Aside from the canon rescue of Nanoha in A's beginning, we have Precia, the poster woman for abusive mothers, who saves Fate from Alicia's tortures in ''Jump''. Following that is Chrono, Yunno, and Shamal who uses the Jewel Seeds to create a Sea of Chaos rift to keep Death Bringer from killing Lina, and then Unison Reinforce who keeps Death Bringer from pulling a TakingYouWithMe with Lina.
** Zelgadis finally gets to show off as he [[spoiler: saves Erio, Caro and Fried from the Mariages. A moment later, Kuma and the Florian sisters show up to help as well.]]
** [[spoiler:Revolution has Lyos and Pokota bailing out the kids from Gram's subordinates.]]
* BigEater: Shockingly, not Lina. Having basically retired and cut back on her magic usage, Lina doesn't need to eat as much as she used to. (Though she still eats a lot.) The kids on the other hand...
** Sette is revealed to be this in Numbers by eating Four steaks, eight pancakes, two hamburgers, a whole apple pie, twenty bread sticks, cheese sticks, at least eight refills on her drink, and some crackers. Then she wants ice cream.
* BirthDeathJuxtaposition: The final chapters of the ''Shine'' arc has Lina giving birth to her new son Arashi and Precia Testarossa passing away, just as she bequeathed her magical knowledge to Fate.
* BloodKnight: Riksfalto, oh gods, Riksfalto.
** Nanoha has traces of this as well, mostly in the [[NextEpisodePreview Next Episode Previews]] that she has.
* BoxedCrook: Precia gets a pardon provided that she helps stop Garoth and Alicia, including giving the knowledge on how to open a rift to the Sea of Chaos...
* BrainUploading: [[spoiler:Jail and Uno had uploaded a copy of their memories and personalities into Nove's Gun Knuckle, and that copy uploaded itself into Nove's Jet Edge Device when she got it. The program representing those memories slept and only awoke when Nove personally fought a Mazoku.]]
* BreakTheCutie: Poor Lutecia. She never had a chance.
** What Garoth did to Nanoha would leave lasting mental scars on her.
* BreastExpansion: Through the natural method of growing up, as Vita is experiencing. Hayate wonders how big they'll get. As of the ''Red'' arc, Vita is a head shorter than Signum with breasts as large as Shamal's. And she's only biologically 13.
** After getting a small power boost of black magic, Levi enlarges her host body's chest in order to have the bust size she originally had.
* BreatherEpisode: After dealing with Valgaav, Riksfalto, Sherra, and the Golden Dragons trying to kill off Nanoha, the group stops and has a {{Fanservice}}-filled rest stop at a local village.
* BrokenBird: [[spoiler:[[Videogame/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaAsPortable Kyrie and Amitie Florian]]]] come from the Death Fog staff world where they were created to serve under a Mazoku. They've been resigned to being under a Mazoku's service, not allowing themselves to dream and hope for anything for themselves. Especially after their father was killed. To emphasize their broken nature, [[spoiler:Kyrie]] explains to Shamal [[PrisonRape what she expected after being captured and imprisoned.]]
** [[spoiler:Amitie]] fully expected [[spoiler:Kuma]] to use her and throw her away when they entered the Hot Springs. He just calmly talked to her about it and swore not to let [[spoiler:Levi]] use them like she planned... he still got a RagingStiffie, but didn't act on it.
* BusmansHoliday: Lina's return home was supposed to be just for reuniting with her old friends and family as well as introducing her new ones. However the Mazoku got wind of her return, and she just couldn't leave that be, knowing [[TheCallKnowsWhereYouLive that trouble could easily follow her back to Earth]].
-->'''Lina Takamachi''': We ended up going on vacation... And had to save every universe.
* ButtMonkey: There's a bandit on the Red World that gets blown up by a Takamachi female when she drops in from the Blue World. Nanoha blows him up in the New arc. Lina blew him up in Peek. [[spoiler:Vivio blasts him in Revolution.]]
* ButForMeItWasTuesday: When Lina met Dilgear, she said that he tried to kill her. Dilgear didn't recognize her, but he admitted maybe he did at some point.
* CallingTheOldManOut: Alicia to Precia while holding a bloodied, naked Fate between them.
* CameBackWrong: Alicia is revived as a Mazoku, and becomes one of the most villainous female characters in the story. How villainous? ''Precia has to save Fate from her''.
* CanonWelding: The Nanoha-verse is one of the four staff worlds in the Slayers multiverse. The Blue World (home to Chaotic Blue and the Blue Dragon God), to be specific, whereas the Slayers-verse is on the Red World.
* CastFromLifespan: Lina reveals that while she has unlimited magic and can freely use the power of the Lord of Nightmares, doing so causes her body to start to break down and starts to kill her after awhile. However, her lack of stamina in "Try" was mostly because of her pregnancy, which may have had something to do with it.
* CharacterExaggeration: Sein is a lot more perverted in this story than in canon. To the point where she's openly groping Tre while others are watching and sneaks into Tre's room while the latter is naked on her bed.
** Not only Sein, [[spoiler:Fate]] and [[spoiler:Arisa]] got their pervy-ness amped up to the point of willingly going together ''TOPLESS'' to [[spoiler:Yuuno]]'s room in order to play a prank on him by ''squeezing their assets on his face''. Yeah, we're talking about [[HatesBeingTouched that]] [[spoiler:Fate]] and {{t|sundere}}hat [[spoiler:Arisa]].
* ChekhovsGun: After seeing the Starlight Breaker for the first time, Lina wonders what it would be like to use the Dragon Slave against that spell. Then in the ''Try'' arc, the corrupted golden dragon elder uses the Dragon Slave against Nanoha, who counters with the Starlight Breaker. The resulting collision between these two spells is not something you'd want to stick around for.
** In the first arc, Miyuki mentions wanting a magic sword, and Lina said only if the Sword of Light shows up. In the ''Shine'' arc, Sirius comes visiting, leaving all five Dark Star weapons in Lina's custody, and Miyuki claims possession of it.
* CliffHanger: [[spoiler: How [=ViVid=] suddenly ends.]]
* ClothingDamage: While it existed in Nanoha canon, here fights have left cast members at least half naked. In one spar the strategy of DefeatByModesty even comes up.
* CoolBigSis: Tre to Cinque and Sein. Due has shades of this as well, tempered by a teasing personality.
* CombatTentacles: Reinforce makes good use of these when she went berserk.
* CombiningMecha: [[spoiler:Quattro]] manages to do this with the [[MechaMooks Gadget Drones]] and the [[MechanicalMonster Megahs]] to increase the power of the [[AntiMagic AMF]] by a substantial margin.
* CoolAndUnusualPunishment: [[spoiler:Uno]] decides to force [[spoiler:Quattro]] to watch three hours worth of Series/BarneyAndFriends for over-the-top teasing of [[spoiler:Tre]]'s figure. Due to [[spoiler:Quattro]] sharing a body with [[spoiler:Levi]], the punishment was horrifying in their opinion. And this is with Uno not even knowing about [[spoiler:the Mazoku in the Numbers' ranks.]]
* ContinuityNod: Remember how Nanoha chanted the [[Anime/MobileFighterGGundam Shining Finger]] chant when charging up the Starlight Breaker in Season 1? It comes back with a vengeance in the Red and [=StrikerS=] arcs, this time with [[spoiler:Reinforce Zwei and Hayate]] doing it respectively.
* ContrivedCoincidence: Sein's job was to enter the TSAB and observe their tactics. She does so by enrolling, and somehow by chance becomes Subaru and Teana's roommate. Then by chance, Subaru and Teana meet [[spoiler:Nove and Wendi]], both undercover as civilian and familiar, and then later [[spoiler:Quint]] meets all three. [[spoiler:Nove]] resemblance causes [[spoiler:Quint]] to confront Regius, leading him to confess her everything about the combat cyborgs, Jail, and his relationship with the TSAB.
* CorporalPunishment: Of the spanking variety: Lina does this to the Leize twins for their involvement with the Book of Darkness. She achieves this using a [[WhipItGood whip]] and [[NoblewomansLaugh laughing like Naga]].
** Reinforce does this to Vita, seemingly taking the role of TeamMom literally in the Yagami household (outside of being Zwei's actual mother of course).
*** Then she does it again, due to events of the ''Red'' Arc. Vita really shouldn't have decked Reinforce.
* CorruptTheCutie: Aside from acts of destruction and violence, this also seems to be the Mazoku's hat. As Corona can attest in Revolution.
* CrashIntoHello: Yuuno has this happen to him with Miyuki in the Shine Arc.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: While Kuma's super fast and never hid that, [[ObfuscatingStupidity he keeps getting people's names wrong, acts rather silly, hits on Teana and flirts with Arisa]], but when he [[LetsGetDangerous finally stopped holding back]], he beat the living tar out of [[BigBad Levi]].
* CurbStompBattle: Poor, poor Olivie.
** Same with Fate. Good thing she had back-up.
** Nanoha pulls one of these on the bad guys in Red.
** [[spoiler:Levi]] was expecting this using the Megahs against Riot Force. Needless to say, when [[spoiler:the Cyborgs, the Florians, and Suzuka]] got involved, it quickly went the other way.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: D-F]]
* DarkerAndEdgier: Well, comparing this version of [=StrikerS=] to the canon version. It's almost like Force in a way.
* DeaderThanDead: Mentioned in-universe.
-->'''Luna Inverse:'''Just make sure that whatever you fight, you kill deader than dead.
** [[spoiler:This later becomes a form of DramaticIrony as Levi, who was supposedly killed in the Jump arc returns by possessing Quattro in the [=StrikerS=] arc.]]
** Dynast Grausherra did this to Zelas' human lover, to make sure she couldn't bring him back as a Mazoku.
* DeadpanSnarker: Uno
* DeathByAdaptation: Dynast Grausherra, who tried to cheat death by taking over his [[TheDragon general]] Sherra, but Zelas prevents him from overwriting Sherra's mind.
** [[spoiler:Jail]] and [[spoiler:Uno]] were killed by [[spoiler:Levi]] when she decided to to go full throttle on her plans.
* DealWithTheDevil: The Golden Dragon elder under the Fire Dragon Lord, along with his loyal followers, make one with Dynast Grausherra in hopes of gaining the power to kill the last Ancient Dragon. He's a plain {{Hypocrite}}, as he accused Lina of doing the same earlier with the Lord of Nightmares.
** [[spoiler:Vita and the other Wolkenritter]] made a similar deal with [[spoiler:the Book of Darkness]]. For extra power, they would [[spoiler:become its Guardian Knights upon their deaths. It didn't work well, as Signum was shown murdering Vita shortly after Vita got her powerup]].
** [[spoiler:And now that her plans have been derailed and she's been weakened once more, [[BigBad Levi]] has struck up a lasting bodyguard deal... with [[Manga/MagicalRecordLyricalNanohaForce Curren Huckebein]]. The other Huckebeins followed, except for Cypha and Arnage, with the former preventing the latter from doing so.]]
* DemonicPossession: The NotQuiteDead Alicia, now calling herself Levi, took over [[FourIsDeath Quattro]]'s body.
** [[spoiler: Runessa, who was posessed by a minor Mazoku who ends up being the real villain behind the Mariage incident.]]
* DePower: A minor case, but Reinforce goes from being able to take on both [[PersonOfMassDestruction Lina]] and [[WaveMotionGun Nanoha]] at the same time, to having trouble with {{Mechanical Monster}}s later in the story.
** Both commented on in the story between her and Signum, as well as justified as she lost a major amount of power that came with being purified and can only access her strongest powers while combined with Hayate.
** The second point is also justified because her mind was being assaulted and she was having trouble focusing.
*** After being brought back to life, [[spoiler:Luna Inverse]] has found that she no longer [[spoiler:has Holy magic at all]].
* DeathWorld: Non-administered World 500, aka the Slayers world, is marked with a SS threat level.
--> ''[[spoiler:(Zest)]] fought back the urge to get annoyed with them, they were justified in being worried about what he requested, since most everyone in the Bureau was, in fact, restricted to going to this planet. When the ship shook slightly, he closed his eyes and waited for a moment. The planet he was going to was described as the most dangerous of all worlds, and frankly, that was what he needed. Sitting around or trying to go on vacation didn't really suit him, being able to fight and not think about stuff suited him more.''
* DeusExitMachina: Lina's pregnancy keeps her from being physically active in the events of Shine, and places her in just a advising role, allowing the plot to focus back to most of the Nanoha-verse cast as they deal with the new reality.
** [[spoiler:A more sinister version has Luna killed off-screen and Nanoha nearly killed, requiring Lina to get Nanoha out of the area so she can focus on stopping Nanoha's rampant Chaos magic from doing more harm than good to her body.]]
* DistractedByTheSexy: Vita caused this to happen the last time she was at the beach, having grown to become quite the looker. [[EvenTheGirlsWantHer Even some girls crashed into something while looking at her.]]
* DoubleEntendre: Taken UpToEleven with [[spoiler:Subaru and Ginga]] vs. [[spoiler:their opponents]] in the [=StrikerS=] arc.
* DoubleKnockout: In what is supposed to be a LightheartedRematch between Nanoha and her friends and the Yagami family, Nanoha and Hayate went all out for their final attack of the battle. Nanoha, channeling her Chaos powers, and Hayate, unisoned with Reinforce. Only then did they KO'ed each other, destroying the entire training grounds in the process.
* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: {{Averted|Trope}}. After Filia hits Chrono with her mace, Lina gives a WhatTheHellHero speech in regards to this.
* DramaticIrony: Jail's goals now involve getting enough power to deal with a Mazoku threat, knowing there are others. He doesn't know that one of his Numbers is being possessed, and then later corrupted by a Mazoku.
** Also Jail's plots involve making the TSAB take the Mazoku threat seriously. He doesn't know that is the reason the Riot Force was founded.
* DragonAscendant: Levi, after Death Bringer Garoth was destroyed.
* DrowningMySorrows: It seems this is what Gourry was doing for a month since Lina's 'death'. Not even Syphiel could snap him out of it.
* DualWielding: Lina does this with the freaking ''RAGNA BLADE''!!
** After her injury at Cinque's hands, Signum has taken up dual-wielding as well, first with a Shine Sword, and later [[spoiler: a duplicate of the rebuilt Laevatein]].
* EarlyBirdCameo: Quint and Megane appear at the beginning of the ''Jump'' arc with their children (Ginga, Subaru and Lutecia respectively). Zest and Regius are seen helpless against Death Bringer Garoth's takeover of the TSAB's Ground Forces HQ.
** The newest arc ''Shine'' glimpses at the birth of Caro and the creation of Erio. Jail also appears with Uno, Due and Tre seeking information from Precia. Some of the other Numbers soon follow.
*** As of ''Peek'', practically everyone through [=StrikerS=] other than Otto, Deed and Vivio.
*** Caro got REALLY lucky when she met what seems to be the Huckebein.
*** Ixpellia shows up in one of Nanoha's dreams while she's in a coma.
* EnemyMine: Nanoha, Fate, Yuuno, and the Wolkenritter team up during what was the second canon battle when Alicia decides there isn't enough bloodshed and summons a horde of minor demons.
** Huraker's claiming of the Water Dragon Lord's powers from Lyos has her facing Riksfalto, Valgaav, Zelgadis, Yunno, Fate, Chrono, and the Shinzoku Erulogos together.
* EurekaMoment: Chrono gets the idea to use some [[ChekhovsGun Jewel Seeds to open another crack into the Sea of Chaos]] to send Garoth into after hearing Vita wishing for a black hole to toss the Mazoku Lord into.
* {{Expy}}: Death Bringer Garoth is pretty much one of Hellmaster Phibrizo. Lina even [[LampshadeHanging calls him a Phibrizo-wannabe]].
** Vita and Reinforce Zwei come across a MechanicalMonster that strongly resembles [[WesternAnimation/TransformersPrime Megatron]].
** Several of the QuirkyMiniBossSquad are expies of others. Notable examples include [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight "Saber" and "Archer"]], [[Manga/RosarioToVampire "Mokka"]], and [[VideoGame/WildArms1 "Belselk"]]/[[VideoGame/WildArms1 "Berserk"]]
** [[spoiler:Levi's QuirkyMiniBossSquad is made up of Expies, including [[Anime/{{Scryed}} Straight Kuma, Tetsunami and his big magnum, and Asuka Tackibana and his magic balls.]]]]
* EyeScream: One of the numerous injuries that happens to [[spoiler:Signum]] after she's introduced to [[spoiler:Cinque's Rumble Detonator]] the hard way.
** Also happened to Cinque when she lost her eye to Zest and when it grew back.
* FailsafeFailure: Arisa, Suzuka and Arf are at the mall and meet a malfunctioning Mid-Childa trash compactor that goes berserk and ends up destroying the mall before it's finally stopped.
* {{Fanservice}}: Plenty of it throughout the story. [[ClothingDamage Clothes tend to go flying off for various reasons]].
* FanserviceWithASmile: As part of Lina's deal with the inn her group was staying in, Amelia, Syphiel and Filia were made to work as waitresses. The latter three did not appreciate this.
* FateWorseThanDeath: [[spoiler:Reinforce]] suffers this at the hands of [[spoiler:Levi]].
* FieryRedhead: Nanoha and her mother Lina are two very hot-blooded, very powerful redheads.
* FishOutOfTemporalWater: Even if she was thrown less than 20 years back in time that's how it felt like to Lina when she ended up on Earth, a different planet with technology centuries more advanced than the Red World's.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: A rather neat and subtle one happens in chapter 8 where Lina thought that if Yuuno had been on her home world, he would have been called the next great sage. 32 chapters, 3 arcs, and one in-story year later when on Lina's home world, both Shinzoku and Mazoku are calling him the fifth great sage.
** There are hints as to why Lina's fighting ability seems to be weaker than what it should have been on her home world. At the end of the ''Try'' arc, she reveals that she's pregnant.
** The unnoticed glow around Erio and the dragons roaring just as Caro was born seems to hint these two will have something special on top of what they have in canon.
*** The Lord of Nightmares later implies that they might be the current reincarnations of Dugradigdu and Vorfeed.
** [[spoiler:Xellos explains to Rangort how Mazoku possess human bodies in order to mate with humans and produce half-human, half-Mazoku offspring, and it's done rarely. Immediately following that, Zelas appears, and then explains that Xellos was the result of such a pairing between her and a human male.]].
* ForWantOfANail: [[spoiler:In the novels, Luke-Shabranigdo knew that Mazoku was responsible for Milina's death, and so gave Lina and Gourry the opportunity to kill him, even granting unlimited magic and stamina. In the fanfic, Luke was only told that bandits killed Milina. Without realizing that it wasn't humans that killed his beloved, his soul was consumed by Shabrangido.]]
** [[spoiler: On a lighter note, during the airport fire, instead of Subaru being rescued by Nanoha, she was rescued by Yunno.]]
** [[spoiler: Zest and Quint's survival puts Regius on a more TheAtoner path than in canon. As a result, Riot Force is mostly his creation.]]
* FriendToAllChildren: Lina, who brings stuff to an orphanage for abused children every month. Mostly an extension of that side of her that existed in the original canon.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: [[{{Irony}} Ironically]], Mazoku Lord Deep Sea Dolphin gets along well with sea life. It doesn't seem ironic at first, because she claims the sea to be her domain, [[FridgeLogic until you remember]] that she's a [[OmnicidalManiac Ma]][[AlwaysChaoticEvil zoku]] and her race wants to destroy the universe, [[UnreliableNarrator or so they say.]]
* FriendlyTickleTorture: Due doesn't like it when Cinque and Tre get mopey, so, she tickles them to get them to stop being "frowny faces".
* FunbagAirbag: Happens often enough to members of the cast to be a [[{{RunningGag}} running gag.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder: G-K]]
* GetAholdOfYourselfMan: Yuuno does this to Fate to snap her out of a HeroicBSOD that she was heading into after finding out about what happened to her sister.
** In ''Dusk'', it's Regius of all people that snaps Zest out of his BSOD.
** [[spoiler:In [=StrikerS=], during the Nanoha vs Saint-King!Vivio, Nanoha does this to calm Vivio down when long repressed memories of Olivie's last moments before Garoth killed her threaten to drive her insane.]]
* GirlOnGirlIsHot: Invoked by Fate and Arisa. In order to get back at Yuuno over a joke he played on them. [[spoiler:They walked into his room, topless, dyed his hair a variety of colors, before pressing their breasts together and making out while Thoth recorded the whole thing. This was to keep Thoth from telling Yuuno what was going on. Upon viewing it, it was enough to have [[TheStoic Chrono]] need some relief from Amy and Filia.]]
** [[spoiler:And speaking of Amy and Filia, they did tease Chrono the same way.]]
* GoGoEnslavement: The corrupted Golden Dragons do this to Filia, leaving her in lacy corset/thong combo that seems to be irremovable. [[FromBadToWorse Then it turns out the undergarments are an illusion,]] [[DoubleSubversion meaning she's really]] [[ShamefulStrip naked]].
* GoToYourRoom: Lina says this to Luna, expressing her displeasure on how Luna failed to protect Arisa and Suzuka.
* GoodParents: The ones who were adults at the start of the story, Lindy, Genya, Quint, Lina, and Shiro are this to the younger members of the cast.
** Said younger members, Nanoha, Fate, Hayate, Yuuno and Chrono, become this, when they grow up, to the younger children that come into their lives.
*** Jail is this to the Numbers while he's still with them. The Numbers are later split into different families with GoodParents of their own, except for Tre and Sein, who go to work for the Saint Church.
* GoodThingYouCanHeal: [[spoiler:Cinque reveals that she has gained regenerative powers and uses them to their fullest effect, standing near a nearly lethal explosion without using a barrier, cutting her own throat to escape capture and grabbing Laevantein and using her Rumble Detonator skill on it to blow it up and take her hand out in the process. Signum wasn't quite as lucky.]]
* HappilyAdopted: Fate gets adopted not by Lindy, but by Lina, making her and Nanoha sisters.
* HasTwoMommies: Reinforce Zwei and Vita. At the moment. [[spoiler:The Vivid Arc adds Hayate's new daughter Kyouka.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:[[EvilGenius Quattro]], [[SmugSnake of all people]]...Nobody saw it coming...[[JustifiedTrope but]] [[DemonicPossession considering]] [[GrandTheftMe her]] [[AndIMustScream situation]].]]
** [[spoiler:Not definite but [[BloodKnight Cypha]] and [[{{Jerkass}} Arnage]] of Huckebein may also apply.]]
* HeroicBSOD:
** Gourry in the aftermath of the battle against Hellmaster as he believed Lina was dead.
** Fate when she learns Alicia was resurrected as a Mazoku.
** Nanoha, after being tortured physically and [[MindRape mentally]] by Garoth.
* HeroicRROD: Towards the end of the Red Arc, Nanoha gets stabbed while actively using her chaos powers. It's also why she survived, even if she was in a coma for months afterward while her body recovered.
* HolyHandGrenade: It turns out Raising Heart's is a holy-elemental artifact, and therefore capable of hurting Mazoku. It gets more interesting when Nanoha can cast boosted [[BlackMagic Dragon Slaves]] through it...
* HowDoIShotWeb: Seems to be a trend for humans when trying to wield holy magic. It was apparently a tough time for Luna Inverse, who couldn't wear clothes because her power kept burning her clothes off until she got a handle with it, and she had no one to teach her.
* HumanityEnsues: After drawing from Nanoha's Chaos-infused Linker Core, the Wolkenritter were transformed from being magical constructs into actual living breathing flesh, their ties to the Book of Darkness severed, and now mortal.
* HumiliationConga: Levi, at the climax of the [=StrikerS=] arc, [[spoiler: has been betrayed by her own Priest, blasted by a Divine Buster, had Reinforce, Lutecia, and Vivio taken away, had her evil ass kicked by Kuma, whose armor form is actually able to harm Astral bodies, and currently been outmaneuvered and on the path of a VillainousBreakdown...and Lina Inverse is there too. It takes a DealWithTheDevil with [[Manga/MagicalRecordLyricalNanohaForce Curren Huckebein]] to stop it.]]
* ImAManICantHelpIt: Kuma gives this as an excuse for his erection during a somewhat dark HotSpringsEpisode... [[SubvertedTrope although he decides not to follow up]] despite the fact he was willing and Amitie was straddling him naked in the water...
--> '''Kuma:''' I am a guy, and you are a very lovely young lady.
* {{Irony}}: Remember how Precia used to [[WhipItGood whip]] Fate for not being similar enough to her "perfect" Alicia? Well, here she ''saves'' Fate from being whipped to death by [[AlwaysChaoticEvil Mazoku]]-[[TheCorruption corrupted]] [[FromNobodyToNightmare Alicia]].
** [[spoiler: It gets worse for Precia. By the time of Vivid, her dead body is suspended naked in a tube thanks to Levi. Levi evens notes the reversal of their positions.]]
* IJustWantToBeSpecial: After Luna [[DePower loses her status as the Knight of Cephied]], she decides to go Mid-Childa and work with the Saint Church.
** Teana feels this way considering she's pretty much partnered with the strongest people in their world.
* InternalReveal: To wit-
-->[[spoiler:'''Jail:''' I just wish I knew why you were trying to stop us from perfecting our ability to fight against Mazoku.]]
-->[[spoiler:'''Subaru:'''...What are you talking about? The Riot Force that I work for was designed to train mages to be able to fight against Mazoku.]]
* InterspeciesRomance: Chrono and Amy with Filia.
* IntoxicationEnsues: Someone spiked the punch at a party and it led to Fate having a HeroicBSOD about her feelings when it comes to other girls and Yunno, [[spoiler:and Vita losing her virginity.]]
* IntriguedByHumanity: Mazoku Lord Lucefer. This is what gets him marked as a traitor by his fellow Mazoku, especially after he gave away knowledge on how humans can fight Mazoku. Despite their efforts, he is still alive... for the present term.
* IWantGrandkids: Well, even though Lina already has a family, Lina's parents are bugging her sister Luna to get married and have kids. [[spoiler:Which is going to be impossible since Luna's into girls.]]
* JourneyToFindOneself: Zest goes to the Red World in order to recover from his BSOD.
* KillUsBoth: This trope is in effect when [[spoiler:Gaav]] with the Gorun Nova used himself as a conduit for the heroes to use for slaying Shabrangido.
* KnifeNut: [[spoiler:Ixpellia]]
* KnightOfCerebus: [[spoiler: Gram, the Mazoku handler of the Florain sisters, is this to the [=ViVid=] cast, his minions injuring Corona and he personally killing Rio.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder: L-N]]
* LampshadeHanging: Needless to say, all over the place.
* LamarckWasRight: Nanoha's magic potential is stated to be because of her mother having a tremendous amount of magic.
** Suzuka is revealed to have powerful anti-Mazoku abilities because it was passed on from her ancestors. Justified in that her ancestors were experimented on and made into weapons to fight against Mazoku and the powerful abilities would be passed on throughout the generations.
** [[spoiler:Xellos, after his month-long tryst with the Earth Dragon Goddess Rangort, has twin girls, both of whom have {{Holy|HandGrenade}} and BlackMagic radiating from them.]]
* LegoGenetics: Jail gets his hands on Filia and Val's DNA for implantation into the Numbers, as part of his safeguards against the Mazoku. This obviously results in Wendi, Sette, Otto, and Deed being [[NinjaPirateZombieRobot half-human, half-dragon, cyborg clones.]]
** [[spoiler:It is later revealed that during the Garoth crisis, Jail had Due get the blood of Lina and Nanoha, isolated the DNA that related to their magic, and implanted into Cinque and Dieci. He later realized that [[EvilIsNotAToy particular magic is not to be worked with lightly.]]]]
* LeeroyJenkins: Signum rushed at Cinque despite (or perhaps because) sensing [[StoryBreakerPower Chaos magic]] in the already dangerous cyborg. Needless to say, things didn't end well for the Blazing General.
** [[FridgeLogic Though, perhaps the fact that she sensed the Chaos and knew how dangerous it could be was the reason she rushed in.]] After all, the last time she went up against someone with Chaos magic, the person went berserk and she, Vita, Shamal and Zafira were horribly maimed and nearly died.
* LivingBattery: The Megahs are powered by Unison Devices. In this story, that is how Agito was discovered. However Unison Devices get turned into {{Empty Shell}}s once they are hooked up. They are only able to regain a form of personality if they Unison with someone for a long time. But there is a limit to how long they can remain hooked up to the Megahs because once removed, they cease to exist.
* LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters: So much so that by the time that the ''Try'' arc gets done, most of all the canon Slayers characters were used, on top of the canon Nanoha cast from season 1.
* LovableSexManiac: Thoth Driver.
* LoveMakesYouCrazy: The apparent reason for Dark Star and Vorfeed's rampage. They were in love, but stuck in their [[CycleOfRevenge vicious cycle of wars among their subordinates]]. Incidentally, Lina guessed the basic reason for the rampage without knowing anything at all.
* LukeIAmYourFather: As far as Xellos knew, he is like all Mazoku, created from their immediate master's severing part of their astral body off and shaping it into a new individual Mazoku. However, Zelas reveals that she is his mother in the traditional sense, and that he had a human father. After he was born, Zelas purged his human side and made him a full Mazoku (for Xellos' safety), only later giving him the power that made him one of the more powerful servants of the five Retainers. As for the father, he was killed by Dynast.
** Nove learning she's related to the Nakajima family. And on the other side, Subaru learning that Nove's her sister.
* LukeYouAreMyFather: When Reinforce Zwei introduced herself, she calls Hayate "Daddy", especially since Reinforce was made pregnant with Zwei as part of the creation process, and that both Hayate's and Reinforce's Linker Cores were used. This scene was pulled from another [[CrackFic crack short]] Nanya wrote.
-->'''Arisa:''' Hayate's not even 10 years old and has a child of her own, and she's the father? Argh! You magic people throw everything out of whack!
** More dramatically, Zest being told that Lutecia is his daughter, after hearing the news of Megane and Lutecia's deaths. [[HeroicBSOD He doesn't take it well]].
** [[spoiler:And on a sillier note, Rangort introducing Xellos to his ''daughters''.]]
* MamaBear: Lina, it's probably her only BerserkButton now.
** [[spoiler: Both Rangort and Zelas promise to raise hell on anyone who hurts Rangort's twin daughters.]]
** Quattro brags to a recently healed and apparently unconscious Megane about what she did to Lutecia and is about to kill her when Megane wakes up, [[CurbStompBattle overpowers Quattro and snaps her neck.]]
** [[spoiler:Lina's status as a MamaBear was never in question, but if anyone forgot about it, all they have to do is look at Lina's reaction to finding out about her children and grandchild nearly getting hurt.]]
-->[[spoiler:"Shiro, get some pants on, someone tried to kill our family."]]
* MayflyDecemberRomance: Filia is a century-years-old dragon, and the youngest of her race. Chrono and Amy are just approaching adulthood. [[spoiler:Filia has a sobering moment regarding this in the ''Advice'' chapter of ''Peek''.]]
* MeaningfulName: Arashi means storm or tempest. Fitting as he can use Chaos Magic naturally with no ill effects.
** [[spoiler:Hayate names her new daughter Kyouka, which can mean "reinforce".]]
* MindRape: Poor Nanoha, with Death Bringer making her suffer like this. [[AvertedTrope Good thing]] [[ThereAreNoTherapists she got therapy for this]].
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: Xellos ''really'' does not understand Earth's socioeconomic or environmental patterns, so he keeps trying to create misery, and ends up a town hero. Like killing a warlord. Or turning a diamond mine into a coal mine. Or blowing up a port that turned out to have been a WretchedHive. Or killing all the rabbits [[KillerRabbit in]] [[EverythingIsTryingToKillYou Austr]][[UsefulNotes/AustralianWildlife alia]].
* MirrorMatch: The infamous Shadow Reflector, once destroyed by Lina Inverse, is repaired by the Mazoku conspiring in the Kingdom of Dils. This time, it does create an evil twin, and they use it on Zest.
* MarkOfTheSupernatural:
** One of the external signs of Lina being 'marked' by the Lord of Nightmares is her left [[SupernaturalGoldEyes eye being gold]]. She covers both of her eyes with a glamor to hide it, making them both blue like the eyes of Momoko Takamachi.
** Cinque has one normal eye and one literally black eye, formed from Chaotic energy.
* MoodWhiplash: Many. One notable event was the end of the ''Shine'' arc. [[spoiler:From the birth of Lina Takamichi's son Arashi to the SuddenDownerEnding of Precia Testarossa's death and funeral.]]
* MomentKiller: Filia comments that she and Chrono were interrupted when Amy asks why Chrono seemed upset.
* MoreThanMindControl: How Death Bringer corrupts the soul of Alicia.
* TheMutiny: While they've made it clear that Hayate is StillTheLeader, they've had her step down as commander of Riot Force 6 due to her emotions overruling her decisions and placed Chrono in charge.
* MythologyGag: Nanoha sticking her head into the kitchen at the Midoriya Cafe causes all fights to stop.
** Mazoku-Alicia's disguise is based on [[EvilTwin Material-L]] from ''[[VideoGame/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaAsPortable TheBattleOfAces ]]''. She later adopts Material-L's new name Levi found in the game's sequel ''The Gears of Destiny''.
** Reinforce reverse-unisons with Hayate at the end of the battle with [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Death Bringer]] and gains the look she had during the final fight in the PSP game.
** A confrontation with the corrupted dragon elder get Nanoha's hair partially burned off, leaving her looking like Material-S.
*** Even earlier than that, Nanoha's new spell ''Divine Flame Buster'' can be seen as a Material-S shout-out.
** Lina gets one when she comments on how she's glad that Fate's not being arrested for being herself and wonders if that might have happened if she stayed on her own home world. Guess what happened in the fourth season of Slayers?
** Lina tells Gourry she's selling him the Blast Sword for 550 the same price that she had originally offered to buy the [[LaserBlade Sword of Light]] for when she first found out Gourry had it.
** Hayate, thanks to Reinforce being around, has spells and abilities of both her [[GlassCannon canon self]] and how she was in the PSP game.
** Luna musing on how the Staff of Bones, a weapon made from Shabranigdo's own body, might be able to withstand the Blast Blade. That's what happens in the final Slayers LightNovel, when Gourry, armed with the Blast Blade, fights Luke-Shabrangido who is wielding the Staff of Bones.
** One of Nanoha's dreams while in a coma involves her mother not being Lina, her father dead, Lindy a fairy, and marrying Chrono. In short, the Lyrical Nanoha PilotEpisode that came with later versions of ''VisualNovel/TriangleHeart3SweetSongsForever''.
*** Speaking of which, Nanoha recently got a fox plushie that she named Kuon.
* MuggingTheMonster: Just shortly after Lina and her group arrive on her home world, they are beset by a group of bandits who were emboldened due to the news that Lina Inverse is dead.
** While traveling through an African village, Xellos gets harassed by some goons of a local warlord. The leader of the group gets the [[FateWorseThanDeath Raugnut]] [[AndIMustScream Rushavna]] curse before [[FromBadToWorse it all goes downhill for the warlord himself...]]
* NakedPeopleAreFunny: In the final Nanoha vs. Fate battle, Fate gets her Barrier Jacket burned off from the heat of one of Nanoha's fire spells. [[LampshadeHanging Lina admits it's kinda funny.]]
** Arisa's lack of understanding of the holy magic inside her gets her shirt burned off.
* NamedByDemocracy: After the Unison Device known in canon to us as Agito finally recovers, she realizes that [[IdentityAmnesia she doesn't know her own name]]. The Numbers try to find a name for her, eventually settling on Agito.
* NeverLiveItDown: InUniverse application. When Sirius, one of the Shinzoku under Vorfeed, is beamed aboard the Arthra, he asks if the on board chef routinely blows up the kitchen while cooking, remembering Vorfeed's time as a [[Anime/LostUniverse spaceship]] included such incidents.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: Outside of using the Giga Slave or an Arc En Ciel bombardment, there was no way for the defenders of Seyruun to be able to defeat a fully awake shard of Shabranigdo. [[spoiler:Then Shabranigdo decided to send in a resurrected Gaav, with some of Gaav's memories modified of course. By chance the heroes manage to unseal Gaav's memories, causing Gaav to revert to his original goals of rebelling against Shabranigdo. Doubles as a HoistByHisOwnPetard.]]
* NocturnalEmission: Poor Yuuno. He's incredibly embarrassed about it, but Kyouya tells him that it's perfectly natural and normal for boys his age to suffer through it. He tells Yuuno to pack more underwear when going on trips in the future.
* NobleDemon: Jail's goals now involve reminding how bad Mazoku are, even if he's seen as a villain.
* NoodleIncident: Just before Lina is about to reveal her magical talents to Nanoha, Lina assures Shiro it won't be like that incident in China. The trope is then averted in the ''New'' arc, where Lina explains that a bodyguard job ended with a mountain and part of the Great Wall of China vaporized when Lina decided to test her Nemesis Breaker spell on the demon that was after their client. It is also hinted she did something to the Clover group for what they did to Shiro.
** This trope is FURTHER averted in the ''Red'' arc as Lina tells Luna exactly what she did to the Clover group.
** Whatever Dynast did to Zelas in the past is never fully explained. [[spoiler: At least... until the ''Red'' arc.]]
** Lina mentioned several more incidents involving the Pope, mecha-piloting Leprechauns, and Oompa Loompas during her European honeymoon (the latter two also serving as a ShoutOut to ComicBook/GoldDigger).
* NoPeriodsPeriod: Averted: As part of the Wolkenritter becoming mortal, Vita now has to go through puberty and the joys of the monthly. [[HilariousInHindsight This is not the reason the fanfic was entitled ''Blood That Flows''.]]
* NotBloodSiblings: Fate being adopted by Lina doesn't keep her from having a relationship with Nanoha.
* NotSoDifferent: While standing near one of the sites of the Holocaust death camps, Xellos remarks to Sirius that Mazoku and Shinzoku are both reliant on humans for survival.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: O-R]]
* ObfuscatingStupidity: A number of characters come across far less dangerous than they really are upon first glance, notable is Lina (who's a lot more mellow than she was in [[{{LightNovel/Slayers}} canon]]), Nanoha (who's seen being mischievous quite often), Reinforce Zwei (who's so incredibly cute, bubbly and energetic that you want to take her home), and Caro (who's so cute that people say is [[TastesLikeDiabetes too cute sometimes.]])
** Vita probably takes the cake by the [=StrikerS=] arc, simply because she'd rather be out partying, going on dates, having fun with said dates, riding her motorcycle and generally relaxing. Despite this, she's arguably the strongest mage in the Riot Force physically, is quite willing to provoke her friends into a sparring match where she's at a disadvantage, and has enough raw sexuality to make someone who disliked her suddenly start crushing on her.
* OlderAndWiser: Lina, after spending 15 years on Earth. When she reunites with her friends, [[NotAsYouKnowThem they are surprised at how changed she is]].
** Exemplified in the ''Red'' arc where Luna's inaction could have cost Arf, Arisa and Suzuka their lives. Instead of losing her temper at Luna, Lina dismisses Luna and later takes her to a place where Luna can see the potential results of her actions.
* OurZombiesAreDifferent: The Mariage are undead women who look completely identical, can morph their arms into various weapons, move so fast that even augmented humans have a hard time following their movements, cut down barriers with ease and explode when they've had enough.
* OutsideContextProblem: The TSAB were blindsided by the appearance of the Mazoku of their universe, mostly because the Mazoku kept their involvement a secret as they brought down the precursor civilizations before them.
** More specifically, Garoth is this in the A's arc for the Nanoha side of the cast. His [[TheDragon Dragon]] is a bit of a subversion, as the end of the arc reveals she's Alicia Testarossa, who CameBackWrong.
** The inverse is expected to hit Levi hard, with increasing involvement of Mazoku and Shinzoku from the Red World as well as Dark Star and Vorfeed reborn on the Blue World.
*** [[spoiler: It did. See HumiliationConga.]]
* OvershadowedByAwesome:
** Pre-[=StrikerS=] Nove feels this way when she compares herself to her sisters.
** Teana feels this way and makes it known after she gets manhandled by Riksfalto, combined with this comment.
--->'''Kuma:'''Listen, little missy, at this level, only the freaks of nature can survive, if you're normal, you're likely to get hurt.
* PalsWithJesus: Lina's golden eye is a direct link to the Lord of Nightmares. She has one-sided conversations with 'the Lady'.
* PaperThinDisguise: [[spoiler:Einhart goes to some lengths to try and avoid this by using her adult form to [[SweetPollyOliver become male]]. Unfortunately, by retaining her long hair in the form, she only succeeds in [[DudeLooksLikeALady confusing people about her gender]], much to [[AccidentalPervert Nove's]] [[CrotchGrabSexCheck dismay]].]]
* ParentsWalkInAtTheWorstTime: [[spoiler:Yunno catches Caro and Erio in bed together.]]
* PastLifeMemories: [[spoiler:Val is beginning to remember some of his life as Valgaav, and in particular, of Gaav himself.]]
* PatchworkFic: The fourth arc ''New'' and then the fifth arc, ''Try'' ([[WordOfGod the author wanted to make the arc be named Try but was lazy when posting to the message boards]]), involves blending the plot of the Slayers ''TRY'' season with elements, characters, and plots of the ''Knights of the Aqualord'' manga and the second half of the original Slayers LightNovel series. The result, a Thirty Xellos... err... [[GambitPileup Xanatos Pileup]]. This was due to the author unable [[TakeAThirdOption to decide which storyline to go with.]]
* PeekABangs: [[spoiler:Nila Vesnire is revealed to have this when her [[TheFaceless hooded cloak]] is shredded. She ends up [[TheVoiceless talking more]] as well.]]
* PlotRelevantAgeUp: Levi artifically ages Lutecia while she's in a [[PeopleJars tube]]. By the time she awake, she's a six-year-old with a teenager's body.
* {{Polyamory}}: It was Filia who push for the three-way relationship between her, Chrono, and Amy. The same Filia who first thought of Chrono as an unrepentant pervert.
** Yuuno's relationship with Nanoha, Fate and Miyuki, to the point where they're all living in the same house and raising Erio, Caro and Vivio.
* PrematureEulogy: Lina returns to her home world only to here that Seyruun just held a funeral for her, and finds her family holding a wake for her. She does admit, though, given that she had been consumed by the Lord of Nightmares, no one should have expected her to return alive.
* PutOnABus: Every main character in the ''Dusk'' arc, allowing the author to explore the minor and secondary characters more.
* RaceAgainstTheClock: For the defenders of Seyruun against the Mazoku horde led by Luke-Shabranigdo, they have two-and-a-half hours from the beginning of the battle till a [=TSAB=] fleet arrives, in which the [[WaveMotionGun Arc en Ciel equipped ships]] [[BeamSpam will begin to purge the area]].
* RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: This is definitely played straight in universe. As mentioned above, Quattro/Levi was already looked as no quite right by the other numbers, Duo beings to get even more suspicious as Lutecia spends time with her, and acting like an overly devout servant. This gets cemented in the fanbase when Levi, now fully possessing Quattro, rapes Reinforce Eins into a state of obedient catatonia.
* RealityWarper: The high-ranking Mazoku in general, but special mention goes to Death Bringer and Huraker.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Hayate in the ''[=StrikerS=]'' arc. Surprisingly, Regius as well.
* RedHerringTwist: Initially it looks like Lina will be able to revive Alicia, but then a few scenes later we learn she failed. Then subverted when we learn Alicia was already brought back...[[CameBackWrong as a Mazoku.]]
* RetiredBadass: Lina was content to just settling down and run a business [[GenerationXerox like her parents]], especially in a world where few things needed the use of her magic. Then the Jewel Seed incident happened...
* RevengeByProxy: Valgaav was convinced to target Nanoha instead of targeting Lina directly. Unfortunately for him, Raising Heart had a [[SuperMode new upgrade]] that made Nanoha a not-so-easy target.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: It was revealed that after the incident that sent Shiro to the hospital, Lina decided to [[GottaKillThemAll kill every known member of the Clover terrorist group]]. Part of this was misplaced guilt that she could have done something about them after the attack on the Fuwa clan reunion. Needless to say, several hundreds died at her hand within a span of a week. This was the last time she lost control of her temper.
* RunningGag: Lina's now modest breast size being felt up or commented on while back in her world.
** Mr. Snuggles, the world's most unlucky cat.
*** He's now considered the most awesome cat in the world [[spoiler:after Jail turns him into a cybernetic familiar for Sette.]]
** Thoth's perverted comments and Yuuno's reaction to them.
** COWS! Poor Dieci.

* SealedGoodInACan and SealedEvilInACan: The Blue Dragon God and Chaotic Blue sealed each other away. This is the biggest problem with Garoth's plan, as it hinges on that the pillar he found actually contains his master and not his master's enemy. He is killed without succeeding in getting the pillar broken, so [[TheUnreveal nobody knows for sure.]]
** Then again, since Arisa has a fragment of the Blue Dragon God inside her, Garoth may have been right.
* SealedInsideAPersonShapedCan: The Lord of Nightmare's punishment for both Dark Star and Vorfeed.
** Arisa Bannings is revealed to have a fragment of the Blue Dragon God inside her.
* SecretTestOfCharacter: Fire Dragon Lord Vrabazard gives one to Yunno to see if he's worthy of wielding Vrabazard's holy power.
* ShapeshifterModeLock: Filia was temporary locked in human form by the corrupted Golden Dragons.
* ShoutOut: Lina flat-out states that she's a mecha fan, and at the end of the first season, she adopts a pose that would make [[Anime/MobileFighterGGundam Master Asia]] proud.
** Nanoha's Nano Fro was all frizzy is a ShoutOut to ''{{WesternAnimation/Futurama}}''.
** Raising Heart [[Anime/MobileFighterGGundam glows with an awesome power]] [[HotBlooded that tells Nanoha to defeat you.]]
** Nanoha saying her Flame Divine Buster has a stun setting is a reference to ComicBook/GoldDigger. As are [[NoodleIncident certain events that happened during Lina and Shiro's honeymoon.]] Filia also mentions a Dragon that had fifty wives. [[spoiler:Corona has a golem that resembles Armageddon.]]
** Vita is apparently a Creator/TeamFourStar fan.
** Nanoha gains a mode that looks suspiciously like [[Anime/MobileFighterGGundam the God Gundam]] with [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing Tallgeese's]] [[{{BFG}} cannon]] on one side and [[WhipItGood Epyon's whip]] on the other side.
** Fate and Arf pull off an attack straight out of ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars''.
** Yuuno's attack on Riksfalto is suspiciously similar to what Nanoha did to Vivio in [=StrikerS=].
** Fate's new mode makes her [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam Three Times Faster.]]
** In one of her pregnant mood swings, Lina borrows Graf Eisen and wonders [[Anime/GaoGaiGar why the tree isn't turning into light.]]
*** [[BrickJoke Comes back]] in the Red arc with Vita [[DropTheHammer decides to try it out herself.]] It works better for her than it does for Lina.
** Quint pulls off a [[YinYangBomb Hell an]][[Anime/GaoGaiGar d Heaven]] against Nanoha in a training match and later again when she and Megane are under attack from a MechanicalMonster. Guess now we know who Subaru inherited her title from.
** Miyuki is a Franchise/KamenRider fan.
** A rather unusual one that doubles as ActorAllusion, but Arisa Bannings, when using her Holy power, has blue wings and a sword made of blue fire, allowing her to fly and fight against Mazoku. If you colored her hair red and turned her flames red, she'd be [[LightNovel/ShakuganNoShana Shana]].
** In ''Red'', Signum's fight against a rather powerful opponent is a ShoutOut to Mazinkaiser's battle against Baron Ashura from the OVA.
** Yuuno, of all people, pulls out a move that would have [[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann Kamina and Simon]] smiling proudly.
*** And Subaru quoting Kamina to get Ixy out of her depressed state.
** Shiro adapts a line from ''Film/ThePrincessBride'' when confronting Gaav.

** Shabranigdo gets one to [[VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy Gilgamesh]] and [[Webcomic/BobAndGeorge Mynd]] in the same scene.
** Nanoha has a series of weird dreams and thinks that things could be worse, she could be [[FanFic/WhiteDevilOfTheMoon at her brother's wedding and end up hospitalized because of overusing her magic when she was supposed to be resting.]]
*** Nanoha also has a dream involving a [[Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica creature that only smiles and promises to grant any wish she wants.]]
** Reinforce wants to see Erio, Caro, and Rein do the [[LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya Hare Hare Yukai]]
** Suzuka is revealed to have been descended from a race of beings called [[Manga/VampirePrincessMiyu Shinma]]. Something of a StealthPun, as her older sister was a vampire in ''VisualNovel/TriangleHeart3SweetSongsForever''.
** Chrono ends up quoting [[Franchise/StarWars Darth Vader]] mere moments before he is tackled by Lotte Liese.
** Nove does the [[Anime/{{Gunbuster}} Super Inazuma Kick]], though she names it Super Nove Kick.
** Due once infiltrated the TSAB as Private [[VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters Duo Lon]].
** [[spoiler:Corona's Goliath is renamed Balmung in the Revolution arc, but it now has a [[Anime/MazingerZ Scrander]] to help it fly.]]
* ShowerOfAwkward: Early in the Red Arc, due to a lot of steam, Yunno thinks the bath is unoccupied, when in fact Miyuki was in it. Yunno quickly thinks he's going to end up hurt. Instead, it seems to spark Miyuki's interest in Yuuno.
* SignificantAnagram: [[spoiler:During the Revolution arc, the kids meets an informant of Lyos, a sorceress who [[TheQuietOne rarely speaks]] and her face [[TheFaceless obscured by the cloak she wears.]] Her name? Nila Vesnire. Now if the letters of her name are rearranged, a very familiar name can be put together.]]
* SkinshipGrope: Hayate and Sein who else?
* SleepCute: When Lina sees Nanoha, Fate and Yuuno sleeping on the same bed, she thinks that they're incredibly cute.
* SomethingOnlyTheyWouldSay: Lina proves to her parents that she isn't a Mazoku doppelganger by casting a Dragon Slave. Mazoku can't call on powers higher than themslves as it would be admitting they are weak and therefore end up absorbed by the Mazoku they are trying to call upon.
** Couldn't she have used a Ragna Blade or something, instead? Same principle, only it would have had less collateral damage.
* SparedByTheAdaptation: Precia, who is taken into custody after being introduced to Lina's Nemesis Breaker spell, a Dragon Slave variant that calls upon the Dark Lord Chaotic Blue. She ends up dying at the end of the ''Shine'' arc, and after that given a proper funeral, a funeral that even Jail attends. [[spoiler:And even then it is not the last time we may see her. See {{Irony}} above.]]
** Reinforce, after Lina purges the device of the corrupt defense program. Despite this, Reinforce Zwei [[InSpiteOfANail is still created]] as the original can only safely Unison with Hayate now. This almost becomes subverted in the [=StrikerS=] arc when Reinforce [[spoiler:seems to get killed by Hayate for good.]]
** Mazoku generals Riksfalto and Sherra, who died in the Aqualord manga and novels, respectively.
** Zest and Quint both survived what killed them in canon, but end up in a state where they can't serve the TSAB as they are, [[TheStationsOfTheCanon in order to keep some things close to the original canon]]. However, this and earlier changes in history keep Regius from being killed as well.
** [[spoiler: In ''Sound Stage X'', while Ixpellia doesn't die, the original canon had her fall into a regenerative sleep from which she wouldn't awake for a thousand years after the incident. The fanfic instead has Arashi infuse her with Chaos energy. As a result, she is now living with the Saint Church. The affects of being energized with Chaos, however, have yet to be truly explored.]]
* SlapSlapKiss: A more literal example: after Teana destroys a couple Megahs with Sein's help, she immediately turns on Sein and punches her twice and slaps her once for her betrayals, then kisses her for saving her in the first place from the Megah. And then arrests her.
* SpotlightStealingSquad: The Nanoha cast compared to the Slayers cast, barring Lina. And among the Slayers-verse characters, the Mazoku compared to everyone else. This is due to the fact the remaining human cast of Slayers only show up in Slayer-centric plotlines so far, and there is not much in terms of Slayers plots to adapt, barring the REVOLUTION and EVOLUTION-R storylines, while most of the post TRY arcs have been focused on the buildup to the fic's version of [=StrikerS=].
** [[spoiler:With the REVOLUTION season being adapted, it looks like the Slayers-verse characters are going to be relevant again.]]
* {{Stripperiffic}}: In her first appearance, the human form of Earth Lord Rangort is described as a [[DarkSkinnedBlond dark skinned, light haired]], [[GagBoobs top heavy]] female wearing a bikini-like outfit.
* SuicideMission: Going up to fight a high ranking Mazoku, or worse, one of the Demon Kings like Ruby Eye, is pretty much suicide.
** Worse, the TSAB has a ''mission'' classification for this, showing that they have dealt with such missions in the past. Its classification: [[ApocalypseHow X Class]].
* SuperMode: Nanoha's Assault Mode, which can safely channel Nanoha's internal Chaos powers for about five minutes, and Fate's Rubin Blitz form, both designed to aid in combating Mazoku. Quint and Zest's Devices were updated with a new Blast Mode armor form, with the material derived from reverse-engineering the Blast Sword.
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: Nanoha when forced into tapping into her innate Chaos magic abilities.
* SuperSpeed: Straight Kuma (Cougar), whose ability is the same from ''Anime/{{Scryed}}'', running so fast he turns the ground to glass and is faster than Fate. Although if he overuses it, he can't walk right for a while.
* SurprisePregnancy: [[spoiler:Well, Xellos and Rangort weren't expecting daughters between them, given how their specices actually ''procreate'', much less procreate with each other.]]
** In a darker moment Garoth reveals that the Saint Kaiser was pregnant with Klaus' child. Emphasis on the 'was' as he terminated said pregnancy before ending the Saint Kaiser's life.
** When Hayate is introduced to Reinforce Zwei (who calls Hayate her father, no less), she promptly faints. To be fair, Reinforce was also certain that Unison devices couldn't get pregnant.
** At the end of the Red arc Amy and Filia reveal that they are both pregnant with Chrono's children. Chrono had the same reaction as Hayate.
** [[spoiler:After Quint has the Chaos energy removed from her body, she discovers she's now pregnant. It's implied that her desires for children that she actually conceived directed that energy to repair her reproductive organs.]]
** [[spoiler: At the end of ''SSX'', Hayate gets surprised again, although this time she's the one pregnant! How that happened isn't explained, but probably has to do how she was Unisoned with Reinforce for quite some time after the Cradle incident.]]
* TeamDad: Kuma, to Amitie and Kyrie.
* TemptingFate: [[IThoughtItMeant No, not Fate T. Inverse.]] After a meal at an all-you-can-eat buffet, Yunno hoped they can relax for the day and have nothing crazy like an airport fire happen. Hayate bet her current pair of panties against that. [[TheStationsOfTheCanon Guess what happened.]]
* TheCameo: Naga shows up at the end of the Try Arc, much to Lina and Amelia's shock.
* TheCallPutMeOnHold: Interestingly, UsefulNotes/ThePope was able to tell that Nanoha would be very special in the future.
* TheDragon: Lots of 'em, but [[FromNobodyToNightmare Levi]] in particular while Garoth was alive.
* TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt: In ''Shine'', it seems the world of ''Anime/LostUniverse'' lives up to its name, somewhat, with it going through the Big Crunch and then the Lord of Nightmares hitting the ResetButton on it, sans Mazoku and Shinzoku.
* TheInternetIsForPorn: PlayedForLaughs when Einhart explains how she managed to use transformation magic to turn herself into an anatomically correct male for the purpose of fighting random people in the streets.
* TheMaidenNameDebate: Instead of taking the last name Takamachi, Fate decides to take Lina's maiden name when being adopted.
* TheMole: Sein, with Due already exposed back in the ''Shine'' arc, and unable to fulfill her canon role. This time however, Sein is roommates with Subaru and Teana.
* ThemeMusicPowerUp: WordOfGod says that the Slayers REVOLUTION opening song ''Plenty of Grit'' would have played during Lina and Nanoha's double team against the Book of Darkness. Lina knows of this trope due to the fact she watches HumongousMecha anime. [[{{Irony}} Magical girl anime, not so much. Too cheesy for her.]]
* ThereAreNoCoincidences: Lina's opinion on continuous events happening around her life. {{Justified|Trope}} by having met and interacted with the Lord of Nightmares several times: as an example Lina was thrown over a decade back in time, just enough time for being back to her homeworld when the fusion of Dark Star and Vorfeed is arriving to the Red World so she could kill them and eventually [[spoiler:have their reincarnations/[[SealedInsideAPersonShapedCan seals]] join her family as adopted grandchildren]]. The fact that L-sama has admitted to having fun watching Lina's life and its repercussions only reinforces that opinion.
** [[spoiler:Lampshaded in [=Vivid=], when Fate learns about a prophecy that seems to talk about Vivio, Einhart, and Ixpellia.]]
** [[spoiler: It also appears that Arashi was included in that prophecy if the term "Scion of Gold" is applicable due to his natural use of Chaos Magic.]]
* TheReveal: Death Bringer Garoth's priestess being Alicia at the end of the ''A's'' arc.
* TheSlowPath: As it turns out, not only Lina was sent to another world, but sent back in time as well. Had she managed to return to home universe on her own, she would have found herself in her own past.
* TheStarscream: Quattro was this to Levi.
* TheTalk: Lindy gives this to Chrono, and later, Hayate. And since this is Lindy, the recipients can only twitch.
-->'''Chrono:'''I... I... [[NoodleImplements The banana and the bagel...]] And...
* TheTease: Well, Yuuno keeps seeing Miyuki without a shirt for some reason...
* TheTriadsAndTheTongs: Zelas ends up in control of the majority of Hong Kong's underworld, all because she killed some two-bit thugs for harrasing her and decided to go up the hierarchy.
* ThinkNothingOfIt: Xellos would rather not accept any gratitude from the slaves he inadvertently saved. Praise makes a Mazoku sick, after all. Turns into a RunningGag as everything Xellos tries to do to make things worse for people or make them feel bad [[CantGetInTroubleForNuthin ends up helping someone else out in return]].
* ThrowTheDogABone: Zelgadis learns how to temporary take on a human form from observing Arf's shape shifting. His chimera body is his true form still, but it's closer to a cure than he's ever had before.
* TimeSkip: The ''Red'' arc has a two year time skip, jumping to when Nanoha is 14.
* TimeToUnlockMoreTruePotential: Zelgadis [[CantCatchUp didn't like the idea that he was]] [[NotWorthKilling ignored by the Mazoku assassins]] in favor of the mages Lina brought, so he decided to head for Mid-Childa as well to learn new magical styles in exchange for his magical knowledge. He becomes a renowed instructor.
* TokenEvilTeammate: Quattro due to [[GrandTheftMe Levi's influence]]. Already couple of the other Numbers feel something's wrong with her, and some are harbouring thoughts of doing something mean to Quattro without feeling guilty about it. She solidified it by helping to kill Jail and Uno.
* TookALevelInBadass: Yunno having learned Shamanistic magic and Resurrection, as well as nearly killing Riksfalto with a modified Ra Tilt, earning him an audience with Vrabazard. Since then, those in the know are already calling him the next Great Sage.
** Arisa and Suzuka are both capable of harming Mazoku, though for different reasons.
** Even the canon badass characters from ''Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha'' take a level and become [[WorldOfBadass even more so]].
* TooMuchInformation: Lina is not amused when Xellos talks about his unintended conquest of Rangort with unnecessary details, especially in front of 12-year old Fate.
* TouchedByVorlons: Not only did the aftermath of the Hellmaster incident tossed Lina through time and space, but a fragment of the Lord of Nightmare's being is infused into her soul. Nanoha has her own fragment, having inherited from her mother, and Hayate and Reinforce got theirs when the Book of Darkness drew from Nanoha's linker core. Nanoha's younger brother was also infused with L-Sama's essence as well, with Lina casting the Ragna Blade and attempting a Giga Slave during the first weeks of her pregnancy.
* TrainingFromHell:
** Lina puts Nanoha and Yunno through this.
** Then her sister Luna puts Arisa through one as well.
** And Shiro subjects Suzuka to this in order allow her to control her strength.
* TryingNotToCry: Lina when she first met Zelgadis and Amelia in the story.
* TheUnfettered: When Chrono is put in charge of the Riot Force, he orders Nanoha to take down the Combat Cyborgs by ''any means necessary'' as they couldn't take any more chances. Levi returning actually helps by forcing an EnemyMine.

And this is followed by a another magical blast that sends her over a cliff, followed by [[ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill several other lethal magic blasts after her as she fell]].]]
* UnstoppableRage: After the Wolkenritter begins absorbing power from Nanoha's Linker Core, Nanoha becomes consumed by her own fragment of Chaos, and begins to punish the Wolkenritter for hurting her in painful ways. This prompts both Fate and Yunno to try to stop her, only for her to turn on them until her mother canceled her Chaos powers. [[BreakTheCutie Nanoha would have nightmares after this incident, made worse with Death Bringer's involvement.]]
** Cinque goes through this herself when Zest injures Due and Tre.
** Events in the story hint that having some of the Lord of Nightmares' Chaos energy enhances a person's rage, causing the person to become a berserker if left unchecked. Nanoha, Cinque and Dieci have all suffered this.
* UnskilledButStrong: Suzuka is revealed to have some sort of superhuman strength and magical power and it was recently revealed that she could beat Vita; however, the exact details of such a victory are unknown as [[WordOfGod the author]] has specifically stated that there was no context to the win and they could have easily had been arm wrestling.
* VictoriasSecretCompartment: Rein Zwei once rode in Vita's cleavage.
** She also gets Agito to do it with her one time.
* VillainsOutShopping: When the Mazoku discover Earth, they decide to go on vacation there. Evil activities are kept to a minimum. Except for Xellos [[MinionWithAnFInEvil who really tries to be evil while on Earth]] and [[AccidentalHero winds up being a hero multiple times]].
* WasOnceAMan: Reinforce Eins used to be human, before becoming the corrupted LivingWeapon. [[spoiler:Levi's EvilPlan involves discovering this process, so she can mass produce Unison Devices for her army of Megahs.]]
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Jail created his Numbers [[spoiler:while planing to fight against Mazoku. Had this been revealed to the protagonists even earlier, they may not have to fight each other.]]
* WhamEpisode: [[spoiler:[=ViVid=] suddenly ends when out of nowhere a being, either a Mazoku or Shinzoku, forcably teleports the kids and Nove to another world (later revealed as the Red World) just as the kids were about to join the mock battles with the adults.]]

* WorfBarrage: While present in both series, the fanfic takes it UpToEleven when Dark Star survives an Arc-En-Ciel blast.
* WrongTurnAtAlbuquerque [[spoiler: Corona should have made that turn at Allenburky.]]
* YouAreNotAlone: In the battle against Garoth, Lina finds herself nearly beaten, when she imagines her old TrueCompanions telling her to not give up, since that was never her style.
* [[YouCantGoHomeAgain You Can't Go Home Again]]: Filia chooses to leave the Red World, believing there's no place for her there anymore due to her actions and the actions of her clan. Lindy allows her to stay with her on Earth.
* YouHaveNoChanceToSurvive: Death Bringer Garoth [[DoNotAdjustYourSet gives one to the populous under the TSAB]].

She also ended up falling AbsentMindedProfessor: Dr. Diggins in love with Shiro who found her unconscious when she the first arrived, got married, game, Professor Scatterly in ''Champions''.
* AbsurdlyLowLevelCap: In the first game, it's set surprisingly low at just twelve,
and had Nanoha. Thus when she learned you can get as high as rank eight by fossil cleaning alone (''ten'' if you get a full set of rare red fossils). The second game ups the TSAB located her home universe, she knew her return was going cap to be hard for her old friends, 20, though viviosaurs gain stats more slowly to go with it.
* AcceptableHobbyTargets: InUniverse. The three commanders of the Barebones Brigade? They're a hipster, a hippie, and a metalhead. The game

* ArtEvolution: ''Champions'' featured a much more detailed, and more {{Animesque}}, art style than the original's more cartoony look.
** ArtShift: [[spoiler: Rosie's icon in ''Champions'' is in the same style as the first game, making her stand out next to the anime-style characters from the second game.

* AuthorAvatar: The first game's announcers are the game's two creators, and the idea of putting them in the game started out as a joke.
* AwesomeButImpractical: Many high-level vivosaurs with really high Attack or LP are devastating from the Attack Zone... but if they end up in the Support Zone somehow, they'll turn your attacker into a quivering pile of useless mush. T-Rex is a perfect example--he has the highest attack in the game and can attack all of your enemies at once, but, if he ends up in the support zone, he reduces all your attacker's stats by ''30%!''
** Zino and Centro. Every hit from them will be a critical-but their accuracy is so terrible that the rest of the team needs to be focused around buffing accuracy/evasion stats to get them to even land a hit. In other words: CriticalHitClass meets ATeamFiring.
* AwesomeMcCoolname: Joe Wildwest in ''Champions'' and Captain Stryker in ''Frontier''.
* [[BadJobWorseUniform Bad Sidequest, Worse Costume]]: So... how 'bout that Hare Club? Y'know, the one where you have to wear a bunny mask, then clean 100 fossils to 80 points or higher?

Justified and averted in ''Frontier'', where A) you travel by car, which can much more easily accommodate the size and weight, and B) fossils are processed automatically, so you're not even carrying them around in the first place.
* BigOlEyebrows: The samurai, with a BigOlUnibrow chaser.
* BittersweetEnding: Subverted in the first game. [[spoiler:Guhnash]] is defeated, but your partner
didn't just begin to play his hand during quite make it out of [[spoiler:stone sleep]]. You've saved the events of A's. He was also responsible for the catastrophic failure of Precia's experiment world, at a cost, and the corruption of the Book of Darkness.
* ArentYouGoingToRavishMe: A variant with [[spoiler:Rangort]], where she takes a WaterfallShower and all [[spoiler:Xellos]] does is be a [[ThePeepingTom peeping tom]]. This leads
that's how it has to [[spoiler:Rangort]] [[SlapSlapKiss dropping a mountain on]] [[spoiler:[[SlapSlapKiss Xellos]]]] [[SlapSlapKiss and be... [[spoiler:and then later directly insisting he "help her"]].
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking: Mazoku Lord Lucefer commented Lindy he created a plague that wiped out most of Europe a few hundred years ago, convinced Stalin that communism was lame,

tells you to use the hip-shaker dance!!]]
* ArtificialLimbs: After losing an eye BlackAndNerdy: Dr. Diggins in the first game is a professional-grade [[Series/{{Scrubs}} blerd]]. Who's dorky enough to wear shorts and a hand to [[spoiler:Cinque's Rumble Detonator]], [[spoiler:Signum]]'s right hand Hawaiian shirt beneath his lab coat, no less.
* BluntMetaphorsTrauma: It's no wonder Nick Nack mangles foreign languages so bad--he barely gets ''English!'' "I can have my snacks and feet them too!"
* BodySurf: This
is replaced with a cybernetic prosthesis created from how [[spoiler:Zongazonga's immortality spell]] works in ''Champions''. His latest victim is actually [[spoiler:the melted down scraps of Laevatein's original framework]].
** The ''Shine'' arc tosses in Miyuki as the new
owner of Gorun Nova and [[ThoseTwoGuys Suzuka and Arisa]], who finds themselves drawing the attention of Riksfalto.
* AdaptationDistillation: Plenty of it.
* BadassNormal: Shiro and Miyuki.
[[spoiler:Levi, [[CameBackWrong Mazoku-revived Alicia Testarossa]], is the most recurrent and most repulsive one, appearing in numerous arcs to constantly threaten the universe, KickTheDog and escape after doing some lasting damage.
Fossil Park, Joe Wildwest.]]
* BigDamnHeroes: Aside BonusBoss: After you beat the final boss of the first game, almost ''every character you've fought before becomes a BonusBoss.'' Almost all of them have maxed-out teams, some of them you have to fight one right after the other, and the prizes for beating them range from "BraggingRightsReward" to "OlympusMons." You can even take on the canon rescue of Nanoha in A's beginning, we have Precia, the poster woman for abusive mothers, who saves Fate from Alicia's tortures in ''Jump''. Following that FinalBoss again as often as you like! The most difficult BonusBoss fight, however, is Chrono, Yunno, and Shamal who uses the Jewel Seeds to create a Sea of Chaos rift to keep Death Bringer from killing Lina, and then Unison Reinforce who keeps Death Bringer from pulling a TakingYouWithMe with Lina.
** Zelgadis finally gets to show off as he
probably against [[spoiler: saves Erio, Caro Dynal, Duna, and Fried from the Mariages.
** Sette is revealed to be this in Numbers by eating Four steaks, eight pancakes, two hamburgers, a whole apple pie, twenty bread sticks, cheese sticks,
Raptin]] ''all at least eight refills on her drink, and some crackers.
* CurbStompBattle: Poor, poor Olivie.

* DeaderThanDead: Mentioned in-universe.
* DeadpanSnarker: Uno
Sitting around or trying to go on vacation didn't really suit him, being able to fight and not think about stuff suited him more.
once.''
** There's also an {{Early Bird|Boss}} BonusBoss named Petey, who requires you fight him with three very specific vivosaurs. If you take the time to max out said three and wait until you're near the end of the game, he's not so tough... But try him ''without'' copius LevelGrinding, and he proves to be quite the KillerRabbit.
* DeusExitMachina: Lina's pregnancy keeps her from being physically active ABoyAndHisX: Thanks to the player getting a sidekick, ''Frontier'' is a "Boy/Girl and his/her dinosaur" story.
* ButtBiter: A RunningGag in ''Frontier'' involves your little vivosaur sidekick chomping down on Nate's butt. In the little guy's defense, Nate is usually literally asking for it by sticking his butt out and taunting him.
* ButtMonkey: Rosie.
* CallARabbitASmeerp: The names have been changed to emphasize that Vivosaurs aren't really dinosaurs, and to trim down the {{Overly Long Name}}s that real dinos often have. There's a mode that gives detailed information on the animals that inspired each dinosaur.
* CanonName: The main character of the first doesn't really have one, but Nintendo's guide suggests "Buckland", after an early paleontologist. The official mini-manga gives his name as "Hunter." The second game's protagonists, though, are [[AnimalThemeNaming Dino and Dina]].
** ''Frontier'' has nameable protagonists "Jura" and "Tria". The puns just don't stop. The canonical name for their little dino sidekick is "Nibbles".
* CardboardPrison: Only
in the events of Shine, and places her first game, but it's exaggerated. [[PoliceAreUseless What happens in just a advising role, allowing the plot to focus back to most of the Nanoha-verse cast as they deal with the new reality.
** [[spoiler:A more sinister version has Luna killed off-screen and Nanoha nearly killed, requiring Lina to get Nanoha out of the area so she can focus on stopping Nanoha's rampant Chaos magic from doing more harm than good to her body.
that police station is anybody's guess.]]
* DistractedByTheSexy: Vita caused this CelShading: ''Champions'' uses cel-shaded graphics, as well as more detailed graphics in general.
* ChekhovsSkill: [[spoiler:The hip-shaking dance, used
to happen the last time she was at the beach, having grown to become quite the looker. [[EvenTheGirlsWantHer Even some girls crashed into something while looking at her.revive Rosie/Duna from tainted stone sleep.]]
* DoubleEntendre: Taken UpToEleven with [[spoiler:Subaru and Ginga]] vs. [[spoiler:their opponents]] [[TheChiefsDaughter The Chief's Granddaughter]]: [[spoiler:Pauleen.]]
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Trip Cera
in the [=StrikerS=] arc.
* DrowningMySorrows: It
second game. His first name [[WhatDoYouMeanItWasntMadeOnDrugs seems this is what Gourry was doing for a month since Lina's 'death'. Not even Syphiel could snap him out of it.
* DualWielding: Lina does this with the freaking ''RAGNA BLADE''!!
** After her injury at Cinque's hands, Signum has taken up dual-wielding as well, first with a Shine Sword, and later [[spoiler: a duplicate of the rebuilt Laevatein]].
appropriate]].
* EarlyBirdCameo: Quint ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: The vast majority of Vivosaurs are absent in ''Frontier'', in particular nearly all of the non-dinosaur Vivosaurs are gone, with the exception of a few pterosaurs.
* CollectorOfTheStrange: Since you can't use them to revive vivosaurs, nobody wants dropping fossils. Except Nick Nack...
** John Guano replaces him in the sequel. John's even ''weirder,'' if that's possible. He's standing not three feet away from a lady who offers dropping fossils in exchange for fossil cleaning. The only catch is, he'd have to wear the Hare Mask to join the club to do so. EveryoneHasStandards?
* CombatCommentator: In ''Fossil Fighters'', they're {{Author Avatar}}s. In ''Champions'' we have a two talking Vivosaurs. ''Frontier'' doesn't have any announcers.
* ContinuityNod:
** In ''Champions'', Pauleen is a throwback to the first game's Digadig tribe. [[spoiler:You also get to fight Rosie in the post-game.]] [[spoiler:Duna, Raptin,
and Megane appear Dynal]] also make appearances in some bonus content.
** In ''Frontier'', the Vivosaur Island and Caliosteo Fossil Parks from the first two games get mentioned occasionally. Characters from ''Champions'' (or at least people with the same names) can show up in the in-game tournaments; one such team is Joanie, Pooch, and Tonzilla and another is Todd, Rupert, and Pauline.
* ConvectionSchmonvection: Mt. Lavaflow in the first game, and Mt. Krakanak in the second.
* CowardlyLion: Todd in ''Champions''.
* CrooksAreBetterArmed: Wanted vivosaur thief Blambeau carries around a shotgun. The [[PoliceAreUseless unarmed and largely ineffective police force]] send [[KidHero Hunter]] after him. Thrice.
* DarkSkinnedRedhead: Nevada Montecarlo, who also likes to WhipItGood.
* {{Deconstruction}}: Rosie can be seen as a deconstruction of TheLoad[=/=]DamselInDistress. She is those things, but realizes it, and is sorry for the times when you have to save her. After one instance she even asks if you hate her.
* DefiedTrope: The final boss of ''Fossil Fighters Champions'':
-->''"Yes, well, [[BondVillainStupidity let's not waste any more time with empty threats]] or [[JustBetweenYouAndMe the revealing of plans]], mmm?"''
* DemBones: The [=BareBones=] Brigade's boneysaurs in ''Champions''.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: Averted. When the bad guy pulls out an {{Olympus Mon|s}}, you need to get your own before you can properly challenge him. (Unfortunately, you can't keep it - see NoPlansNoPrototypeNoBackup below)
** However, it's later played straight with [[spoiler:Guhnash--apparently, all you have to do is destroy his brains. Easy-peasy.]]
** In ''Champions'' [[spoiler:The FinalBoss, Zongazonga, is pretty much exactly this. A body-snatching skull that turns into a literally on fire zombie T-Rex with giant, bloody skeleton arms coming out of it? Just send some kid with his pet dinosaurs to beat it up.]]
* DinosaursAreDragons: The Fire-type Vivosaurs breathe fire, but remember - they're no longer Dinosaurs, they're ''[[CallARabbitASmeerp Vivosaurs]]''.
** In ''Champions'', the Super Revive function in the sequel plays this to the hilt, essentially morphing your Vivosaurs from dinosaur-like creatures into more draconic monsters. Also, [[spoiler:the BigBad Zongazonga literally refers to the dinosaurs as dragons in his magic chant in the penultimate battle.]]
* [[AnimalMotif Dinosaur Motif]]: In ''Champions,'' the male PC has a T-Rex motif, while the female PC has a triceratops motif.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: Frigisaur, and the leader of the BB Bandits with him.
* DiscOneFinalDungeon: Boy, isn't Mt. Lavaflow climactic! The lava! The HeelFaceTurn! The impending epic battle between the opposing forces of Frigisaur and Ignosaur! ...Wait, whaddiya ''mean'' half the plot threads still haven't been followed up on?
* DiscOneNuke: The Spinax you're given
at the beginning of the ''Jump'' arc first game is strong enough to last you until endgame.
** In ''Champions'' the starters are powerful enough to last you the entire game, particularly Dimetro.
** The 'Donation Point' dinosaurs also count, particularly Compso in the first game. There's nothing to stop you from grinding all the way to him the moment you get access to your first dig-site, and his support-effects will make you basically unstoppable for the rest of the game. To a lesser degree, Stego - being the cheapest of the DP-dinosaurs, you can, again, fairly easily get all 4 parts of him, in [[RareRandomDrop 'red' quality]], for an instantly high-level 'Tank' who can solo practically anything up to late-mid-game if needs be.
** Giga Raja in Champions, which is created by evolving Raja (available in the first area) with a gold fossil (can be found early with some dedication). Giga Raja's already powerful attacks can be bolstered by his ability to Charge-Up for a turn, causing him to hit like a meteor and deal damage exceeding the highest possible Life Points for anything in the game!
* DoWellButNotPerfect: In ''Champions,'' there's a man who wants your help making hard-boiled eggs in the hot springs. They need to be in there for 10 seconds ''exactly,'' and hardly a millisecond longer. However, boiling the eggs for ''9.9 seconds exactly'' is the only way to get the [[spoiler: elemental chick]] fossils. Better bring a stopwatch. Or learn how to count to 7-1.
* DownloadableContent:
** The original game briefly featured four of the five Mysterious Egg fossils available for download on the Nintendo Channel, but they were taken down eventually. (They're still available in-game, though; it just takes longer.)
** ''Champions'' features [[OlympusMons Frigisaur and Ignosaur]] from the first game, along with sidequests from a... ''strange'' character named Ryne, and downloadable fights with [[spoiler: Duna, Raptin, and Dynal.]]
** ''Frontier'' distributed its bonus content through AR cards rather than actual downloads; including some Bone Buggys, versions of Yutie in all four elements, the villains' dark vivosaurs, and some ''actual'' dinosaurs.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: Averted. The [=NPC=]s' dialogue changes to praise you as you progress through the story and ranks.
* {{Eagleland}}: The Fossil Park America in ''Frontier''. The whole place is lit up like Las Vegas, the Warden in charge is TotallyRadical and [[AmericansAreCowboys dresses like a cowboy]], and the first dig site is in a southwest canyon. To its' credit, the Starry Falls dig site is a South American jungle instead of being a US stereotype. Fossil Parks Asia and Europe aren't all that much better when it comes to cultural stereotypes.
* ElementalPowers: It turns out that the cloning process gives these to animals as a [[CursedWithAwesome side-effect]].
** BlowYouAway
** DishingOutDirt
** MakingASplash
** PlayingWithFire
** NonElemental
** InfinityPlusOneElement: "Legendary" in the first two games, though in practice these vivosaurs are treated as Neutral; they just have better stats. The first game has [[spoiler:Frigisaur, Ignosaur, and all the parts of Guhnash]] and ''Champions'' has [[spoiler:Zombie Tricera, Zombie Ptera, Zombie Rex, Zombie Plesio, and Zongazonga; plust the return of Frigi and Igno]]. ''Frontier'' drops the designation.
* ElementalRockPaperScissors: Fire beats Air, which beats Earth, which beats Water, which beats Fire. Neutral has no advantages or disadvantages.
* ElvisImpersonator: Rockin' Billy from ''Champions.'' Did you catch the PunnyName?
* EverythingsBetterWithDinosaurs: Duh!
* [[EverythingsBetterWithPrincesses Everything's Better With Princessaurs]]: Maia (Maiasaurus) is a pink dinosaur with a feminine face and a princess-crown. She's also a support-skill powerhouse, the only one in the game to have both healing and anti-status-ailment skills.
* EvolutionaryLevels: [[spoiler:The Dinaurians have a devolution beam. It turns humans into "triconodonta", a ratlike mammal ancestor.]]
** The three "Transformation-Class" Vivosaurs also transform into later descendants of theirs: Guan turns into T-Rex, and Proto turns into Tricera. Aoptryx is somewhat more confusing--it can turn into ''any'' neutral-type Vivosaur. Even those that technically came before it. And even those it ''could not possibly be related to'' (Apato isn't even a ''theropod!'').
** In ''Champions'', some vivosaurs can "Super Evolve" into stronger forms.
* {{Expy}}: Pauleen in ''Champions'' has a lot in common with Rosie from the first game. In addition to being your designated female hanger-on and being surprisingly powerful for such a young age, both have bright pink TwinTails... and the same (accidental, in Rosie's case) VerbalTic.
* FeatheredFiend: Aopteryx. It can semi-reliably steal FP with Thieving Talons, recover LP with Life Drain and as mentioned above, transform into any Neutral vivosaur. [[JokeCharacter Unfortunately, it needs significant support to dish out and/or take damage...]]
* FetchQuest: AND HOW. The first game is loaded with these. Thankfully, most of them go by quickly enough to keep the story rolling.
* FireWaterJuxtaposition: Frigisaur and Ignosaur in the first game represent the Fire/Ice version.
* FlyingSeafoodSpecial: And [[WaterIsAir inverted]] when fighting in [[UnderTheSea Bottomsup Bay]].
* FossilRevival: ...It's the backbone of the series.
* GeniusSweetTooth: Dr. Diggins has a weakness for Dino Cakes.
* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: Professor Scatterly in the second game manages to slip a [[DidNotDoTheBloodyResearch "Sod it"]] past the radar. Similarly, the game goes to absolutely ''zero'' lengths to disguise the fact that Pauleen has a [[HoYay girl crush]] on the female protagonist. She grabs the female PC's hands, stares deeply into her eyes, and then admits she has no idea why she's blushing.
* GlobalCurrencyException: Redundant fossils are donated to the museum, which gives you donation points based on how good they are. These points are the only currency the cleaning station store accepts. Averted in ''Frontier'', where you just get cash for extra fossils.
* {{Gonk}}: Baron von Blackraven, especially compared to his two PrettyBoy associates.
* GoodAllAlong: [[spoiler:Don Boneyard and the [=BareBones=] Brigade, trying to stop the Caliosteo Cup in order to stop Zongazonga's scheme. Well, the Brigade didn't know Don Boneyard was a good guy, but they don't have a problem with it when they find out.]]
* GottaCatchEmAll
* GreenHillZone: Greenhorn Plains in the first game, Treasure Lake in ''Champions'', and Paradise Beach in ''Frontier''.
* HarmlessFreezing: Frigisaur freezes you and Rosie completely after your first fight with it. But you're still OK.
* HarmlessVillain: The Barebones Brigade aren't exactly what you'd call menacing at first. Their eeeeevil plans involve such plots as "Pampering girls so they forget to participate in a tournament," and "Fill the hot springs up with powdered gelatin so people get stuck and can't participate."
** NotSoHarmlessVillain: [[spoiler: Their fourth plan, the one Don comes up with, is to destroy the ''entire Caliosteo island system''. Egads.]]
** [[spoiler: It's later {{justified|Trope}} when you learn that Don Boneyard is, in fact, the real Joe Wildwest in disguise. He didn't want to hurt anybody. When he [=OKed=] the third plan, things were getting ''extremely'' desperate, and it went slowly enough to give the people plenty of time to evacuate.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: The BB Bandits - well, the TerribleTrio team, anyway; the {{Mooks}} don't seem to turn.]]
** [[spoiler: The entire [=BareBones=] Brigade.]]
* HelloInsertNameHere: All games actually allow you to change your main character's name at any time! The first game doesn't allow you to name your {{Mon}}s, strangely, though this was changed in the second.
* HopelessBossFight: [[spoiler: Round one against Frigisaurus.]]
* HotSpringsEpisode: In the second game, there's a hot spring-themed dig site called Hot Spring Heights. Not surprisingly, most of the plot in that area revolves around the hot springs.
* HumansAreSpecial [[spoiler: Not only do they have the sci-fi standard "pluck," but the dinaurians are impressed by their capacity for both compassion and forgiveness.]]
* HypnotizeThePrincess: Comes into play late in Champions. [[spoiler: It's Todd.]]
* InconsistentDub: ''Frontier'' changes a couple names from previous games. The coin-like items vivosaurs are stored in were "Dino Medals" but are now "Dino Gears", and Becklespinax's vivosaur name goes from "Spinax" to "Beckles" - of course, the first two games identified it as an Altispinax, and its Japanese name was "Altis", which would explain the change.
* InfinityPlusOneSword: T-Rex in the first game, natch. Also, [[KillerRabbit Compso, who debuffs the enemy's attack power by 90%]]. Even moreso are [[spoiler:Duna, Dynal, and Raptin]],
with their children (Ginga, Subaru ridiculous support effects, and Lutecia respectively). Zest crazy abilities.
* InterspeciesRomance: [[spoiler:Before the final battle with Guhnash, you can choose to bring either Rosie or Duna with you. Choosing Duna leads to this. And considering that little mishap with the devolution ray, Rosie technically counts for this too.]]
* ItemGet: Every last fossil is one of these in the first two games. The hero bends over, picks up the rock, faces the camera
and Regius are seen helpless against Death Bringer Garoth's takeover thrusts it above his/her head triumphantly. The fanfare plays, and a blurb appears stating the nature of the TSAB's Ground Forces HQ.
rock found. It's a thing of beauty.
* JokeCharacter: In the first game, Anato. Its expression can only be described as "derpy," and even the ''game'' goes out of its way to point out how stupid it looks. It's a vivosaur who tries to sell itself based ''solely on'' the fact that it looks ridiculous. From a gameplay perspective, it also tries to lay claim to having a 100% effective [[StandardStatusEffects Confusion skill]], but said skill also does no damage and costs ''240 FP.'' Similar skills on other vivosaurs not only do damage, they also cost ''over 100 FP less.''
** LethalJokeCharacter in ''Champions '' It gets an [[TookALevelInBadass upgrade]] to gold confusion which means that the vivosaur inflicted has a chance of attacking itself or any of its allies. In addition its super evolver form Papygon, is widely accepted as one of the best in the game.[[note]]However, it's worth nothing that Papygon's PaletteSwap brother Teffla is much more the fan favorite of the two, and can deal heavier direct damage.[[/note]]
* JustifiedTrope: The game goes out of their way to emphasize that Dinosaurs didn't really have superpowers, and a great deal of the Vivosaurs aren't even really revived from Dinosaurs, per se, but are rather other forms of prehistoric life.
** Driven home in ''Frontier'', where [[spoiler:you travel back in time and encounter ''real'' dinosaurs. Unlike vivosaurs, dinosaurs are all Neutral-type, [[RealIsBrown have brown skin]], and are identified by their full names (like "Triceratops" instead of "Tricera")]].
* KatanasAreJustBetter: Mihu, a ceratopsian found in Japan, has ''katanas for horns.''
* KidHero: The main characters.
* KingIncognito: During ''Champions'', you're tasked with finding the Princess of Nomadistan, who has quietly entered the tournament; and are shown a picture of a girl and her dog that you ran into earlier. [[spoiler:The Princess turns out to be ''the dog''; the girl's her retainer. Both the fact that this would have been good to know earlier and the absurdity of [[CaligulasHorse appointing dogs as royalty]] is lampshaded.]]
* LampshadeHanging: The {{Combat Commentator}}s sometimes do this.
-->'''P.A. Leon''': I was wondering, why do we talk through every fight?
-->'''Slate Johnson''': I'm wondering how we can ''see'' every fight happening!
-->'''P.A. Leon''': Excellent point, Slate.
* LargeHamAnnouncer: All the announcers, but special mention must be given to Trip Cera. A couple choice quotes:
-->Not as excited as me! BOOYAH, GRANDMA!

-->'''Trip:''' Just like my wife with a credit card! Zing!\\
'''Ty:''' You're not married, Trip.\\
'''Trip:''' I'M SO LONELY!

-->There is a literal river of sweat running over my laptop! Seriously, I may electrocute myself before the day is over!
* LastLousyPoint: The five elemental [[spoiler:baby birds]] in the first game, who can only be obtained by getting every other vivosaur in the game and then ''maxing their levels.'' Yikes! They used to be downloadable from the Nintendo Channel on the Wii, but have since disappeared, as the aforementioned channel is no longer supported.
** More generally, you may find yourself gritting your teeth over the last lousy point of every single fossil you can clean. Properly-cleaned fossils are worth a ton of experience points, way more than you can reasonably give any specific vivosaur through combat. It's not ''mandatory'' to get everything perfect, but for perfectionists...
* LeakedExperience: Three vivosaurs participate in each fight, but all five that you're carrying (including defeated ones) get the experience. Averted in ''Frontier'', where all vivosaurs are available to use at all times but only the one used in battle gets experience.
* LizardFolk: In the second half of the game [[spoiler:a race of dromaeosauridae that evolved into hyper intelligent humanoids become the main antagonists after the BB Bandits are defeated. They want to KillAllHumans, naturally.]]
* [[GratuitousForeignLanguage Gratuitous Foreign]] {{Malaproper}}: Nick Nack does this. Airy cat oh! Donkey shine!
* MaskedLuchador: There seems to be a thriving masked-battler community, since each game involves some:
** Saurhead in the first game, who wears [[RefugeInAudacity no less than]] ''[[RefugeInAudacity thirty]]'' full-head dinosaur masks at any given time. [[TheUnreveal Can't risk]] [[DramaticUnmask being unmasked]], after all.
** Pauleen from ''Champions'' also wears a mask. [[spoiler: She wears it because it's shy, and it helps her feel more confident--but the mask is enchanted to bestow confidence, and ''evil,'' so it takes over the wearer's body in a rather literal case of BecomingTheMask.]]
** In ''Frontier'', it's Dino Gigante. You have to find his old rival, the Flying Smile Kid, and draw him out of retirement to try and win his belt in order to get the piece of MacGuffin on it.
* MetalDetectorPuzzle: This is your entire means of finding {{Mons}}--you have sonar and need to search the ground for stuff.
* MisterMuffykins: Joannie and Madame Pooch in ''Champions''. [[spoiler:Joannie's pampering is justified as Madame Pooch is legitimately royalty as "Princess Pooch"; see KingIncognito above.]]
* {{Mon}}: It's a dinosaur-collecting and battling game.
* MythologyGag: Many visual details of the Vivosaurs are based on facts about their dinos:
** Some are [[PunnyName name puns]] (Krona is covered in clock-like Roman numerals, and Coatlus was made to look like its namesake, Quetzalcoatl.)
** Others are based on the location of their discovery (U-Raptor (''Utahraptor'') has feathers that look like a Native American headdress, Carchar has Egyptian details, Chinese Shanshan is designed to look like a ChineseGirl crossed with an Asian dragon.)
*** The fact that Breme (''Bradycneme draculae'') is vampiric is both a name and location reference, as it was discovered in Transylvania and and consequently named after {{Dracula}}.
** And more have their own fun facts (M-Raptor was exceptionally bird-like and so resembles a parrot; Megalo was one of the first discoveries ever, so according to the graphic designer "[[http://www.fossilfighters.com/html/making-of/5/ I deliberately used the design of a dinosaur as it was conceived by people long ago.]]")
* {{Nerf}}: Support effects were nerfed quite heavily in ''Champions.'' In the first game, vivosaurs had their full support effects regardless of their level, making things like [[GameBreaker Compso]] incredibly dangerous. In the sequel, support effects grow when your levels do... meaning the game gives you a Compso in the ''very beginning of the game,'' and feels no remorse.
** But there's also an inversion, as some game mechanics got stronger in the transition from the original game to ''Champions''. In the original game, only the vivosaur in the Attack Zone could have a negative status effect put on them, and switching zones got rid of status effects. This made attacks whose only purpose was to cause a status effect somewhat weak, but this hurt poison attacks especially--you would need to use a chain of either knockback or [[StandardStatusEffect excite]] skills to get a poison attack to work, and the extra damage frequently wasn't that spectacular. In the sequel, however, all zones can have status effects and rotating doesn't get rid of them, meaning the extra damage from poison is more likely to stick around.
** A similar inversion applies to counterattacks. In the first game, counterattacks only had a 40% chance of working, making them a rather weak and luck-based strategy. In the sequel, counterattacks were upped to a 70% success rate, making them far more dangerous.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: The Dinomatons are robot dinosaurs, and the aforementioned Breme is a vampire dinosaur.
** And the sequel brings us skeleton [[spoiler:and zombie]] dinosaurs.
* NoPlansNoPrototypeNoBackup: A rare living example in [[OlympusMons Frigi(saur) and Igno(saur)]]. As soon as you defeat the former, the latter vanishes as well due to them cancelling each other's powers out. Still, it removes a god-like power from your party to prevent a Game Breaker. [[spoiler:Until you can win them from post-game {{Bonus Boss}}es, anyway.]]
* NothingIsScarier: When [[spoiler: the BB Bandits take over Vivosaur Island]], no music plays even in friendly areas.
* NotQuiteBackToNormal: Poor Rosie. The other girl's ending shows she hasn't fully thrown off the effects of the Digadig charm ''or'' the [[spoiler: deevolution ray]].
* OddNameOut: Three of Holt's V-Raptors in the mini-manga are Odin, Thor, and Steve.
* OlympusMons: Frigisaur and Ignosaur.
* OneWingedAngel: [[spoiler:The main villains of both ''Champions'' and ''Frontier'' turn themselves into monstrous dino-beasts for the final battle.]]
* OverlyLongName: Avoided. Many dinos have these, but their Vivosaur counterparts have them cut short.
* PaletteSwap: In ''Frontier,'' certain dinos have variants (based off famous specimens) that are colored differently. They sometimes differ in elements and skills, too--Hypsi comes in Air, Water, and Fire versions.
* {{Panspermia}}: Subverted. [[spoiler: The Dinaurians seeded the planet with life, but it was Earth's own species that survived instead.]]
* PeninsulaOfPowerLeveling: There's a bonus boss post-game that most people have trouble with. However, with the right team (ex. Seismo, Hoplo, and Compso) you can consistently defeat said bonus boss over and over again in about 6 turns each time by abusing a team skill and how long-range attacks work, making leveling up all your vivosaurs to rank 12 easy.
** In the second game, there's the three Barebones Brigade officials. They use teams made up entirely of Boneysaurs; although Boneys have powerful support effects, they're also extreme {{Glass Cannon}}s, meaning vivosaurs several levels lower of them can take them out with some decent planning. They grant a full 30 points (in a game where level-ups come every 50 points) on defeat, making them great for grinding.
** Also in the second game, after you beat the game, you can talk to Prof. Scatterly to "reenact" the final battle with Zongazonga. By thee end of the game your vivosaurs will probably be strong enough to take him out no problem, and he gives you 50 points, so any dinosaurs can be leveled up just by being put in the support group.
* PlanetEater: [[spoiler:Guhnash.]]
* PlayableEpilogue: A whole crop of stuff opens up after you beat the game. UnusableEnemyEquipment becomes [[InfinityPlusOneSword usable]], new areas open up, everyone becomes a BonusBoss, you get ''both'' the OlympusMons...
* PhlebotinumKilledTheDinosaurs: [[spoiler:Inverted; Dinosaurs were introduced on Earth by the Dinaurians.]]
* PopQuiz: The second go through the Secret Tunnels has you correctly answering dinosaur trivia to advance in the maze.
** In ''Champions'' there's a roaming quiz show sidequest run by Tess Score.
* PowerTrio: Hunter, Rosie, and Holt become one of these in the mini-manga. In ''Champions'', it's the player, Todd, and Pauleen; with Rupert as SixthRanger.
* PowerupLetdown: Getting the upgrade for Dark Fossils lets you find red fossils, which you could already find anyway, jewels, which you could find anyway, and dino droppings, which you ''couldn't''. Also, dark fossils have an outer shell that can only be broken with a hammer. If there's a speck of outer shell covering that perfect red fossil, expect to lose some points smashing it.
** Yes, but you don't get challenged for finding Dark Fossils in the original. Meaning you don't have to fight tooth-and-nail for every [[VendorTrash Emerald and Diamond]] that you dig up. In addition, the best jewels are available in Dark Fossils, meaning you can now get those all-important case, sonar, and cleaning tool upgrades without running around swinging a pickaxe like a maniac for hours on end. BoringButPractical.
* PunnyName / MeaningfulName: Where to start? We've got name changer Ty Tull, advice giver Tipper, Sam Inaro who teaches seminars... And these are just from the ''first'' game.
** Gets lampshaded:
--->'''Rosie:''' Oh, I can't believe I didn't make the connection before... Knickknacks... ''Nick Nack''. Ugh. Waa ha ha! To think we're out looking for knickknacks for a guy named Nick Nack... It's like some awful joke!
** NeverHeardThatOneBefore: Even the [=NPC=]s warn you that "We've heard all the jokes" about Bea Ginner (who teaches novices).
* PurelyAestheticGender: Your gender has no effect on the plot in ''Champions'' or ''Frontier''.
* QuintessentialBritishGentleman: In ''Champions,'' both Professor Scatterly and Rupert show signs of it. Rupert is more of a nascent one, though he certainly shows signs of Britishness.
* RandomlyDrops: Some fossils are ''much'' rarer than others, and you'll have to go back and forth between the main town and the area where they're found if you want to complete your fossil collection. Averted in ''Frontier'', where fossils for a specific vivosaur can be counted on to show up near each other and always in the same areas; plus they're identified on sight and you no longer need to go back to town to excavate them.
* TheReptilians: [[spoiler:The dinaurians in the original game.]]
* RibcageRidge: Treasure Lake in the second game has a gigantic skull of some variety, smack dab in the middle of the lake.
** Could also be a parody DesertSkull. Food for thought.
* RichBitch: Bling sisters Ruby and Sapphire, aka "the Posh Pair", in ''Frontier'''s postgame; who consider the player a commoner and recruit him/her in a few schemes to get rare jewels. Averted with [[spoiler:Penny]], who is only revealed to come from a rich family in the postgame and is SpoiledSweet.
* RichIdiotWithNoDayJob: A great deal of the Fossil Fighters are implied to be this.
* RoadApples: Yes, you can dig up fossilized dino dung. Nick Nack and John Guano are the only ones who want it for whatever reason (the shop will ''accept'' it, but will pay next to nothing).
* RobotBuddy: [=KL-33N=], the cleaning robot. Rupert has a prototype digging robot called [=Di66-R=]. In ''Frontier'', the Bone Buggies have an onboard AI called [=VR-00M=] (whose picture looks like the robots from the prior games).
* RoseHairedSweetie: Nate from ''Frontier'' is a RareMaleExample, in {{Adorkable}} flavor.
* RuleOfCool: Dinosaurs battling it out is cool enough, but the sequels give them even more powerful, awesome-looking forms.
* RunningGag: In ''Champions'', every time [[spoiler: someone's skull jumps into your pocket]], it is always described as "lumpy."
* SamusIsAGirl: In ''Frontier,'' it's revealed that the MascotMook T-Rex--the big red, yellow, and black one that appears on the box art of every game--is specifically a female version (named [[GeniusBonus Sue]]). The male version is a [[RealMenWearPink purple]] variant named [[FluffyTheTerrible Stan.]]
* SaveScumming: If you save before you talk to the cleaning robot, you can reload the save until he gives satisfactory results. No longer the case in ''Frontier'', where you do all the cleaning out in the field where you ''can't'' save.
* SchmuckBait: The Secret Tunnels of the Mole Brothers contain several treasure chests, but a nearby plaque warns you that "greed is its own setback." Opening them keeps you from advancing in the maze. It's later confirmed that opening these chests is why Lemo and O'Mel got separated in the first place.
* SetBonus: Putting three vivosaurs with something in common on the field can unlock a special attack for each.
* ShoutOut:
** One poor nameless NPC is tasked with standing guard over a warehouse, and nothing else. Keep talking to him, and he'll eventually reveal the "deep, philosophical" thoughts he's been having: "'''What is a man''''s life worth? Nothing but guarding '''a miserable pile of secrets?'''"
** The newest arc ''Shine'' glimpses cleaning robots resemble Japanese emoticons.
** A cinematic from the sequel shows [[Film/JurassicPark a helicopter transporting new people to the island.]]
** In ''Champions'', one park staffer is trying to come up with new ideas:
-->Fast cars are exciting, right? Maybe we could [[Anime/YuGiOh5Ds have people battle while driving around a racetrack]]! [[TakeThat No, you're right. That's a dumb idea.]]
** Stella, Staff leader of Ribular Island informs the Hero(ine) that "[[VideoGame/SuperMarioBros1 Your dig site is on another island!]]" once they progress past Round 2 of the Cup. She then wonders why that sounds familiar.
** ''Champions'' also features a fisherman who became lost at sea. His name is [[Literature/RobinsonCrusoe Robinson,]] and he also talks to [[Film/CastAway a ball, whom he calls his best friend]].
** When its programming goes haywire, Rupert's robot says things such as "[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZelda I AM ERROR.]]" and "[[Videogame/ProWrestling A WINNER IS YOU.]]"
** In ''Frontier'', if you talk to a shopkeeper about cleaning a daily random fossil, they'll say [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZelda "It's a secret to everybody."]] During a tournament during one of the postgame quests, one character will also reference [[UsefulNotes/NintendoEntertainmentSystem "playing with power"]].
* ShownTheirWork: The information on the extinct animals, also see MythologyGag above.
* SignificantAnagram: The Mole Brothers' names are Lemo and O'Mel. Hm. I wonder what ''those'' [[SarcasmMode are anagrams of]]?
* SinisterSchnoz: Snivels, no question.
* SkullForAHead: Don Boneyard [[spoiler:and anyone else who became a victim of Zongazonga]].
* SlasherSmile: [[spoiler: Guhweep]] has one, but it's not immediately obvious until it [[spoiler: uses Tears of Dark Light... and turns upside down]].
* SlippySlideyIceWorld: The Glacier dig site from the first game, though it doesn't open up until the endgame.
** All of the Ilium Island digsites in ''Champions'' apply. Ilium isn't called "The island where warmth goes to die" for nothing!
* TheSlowPath:
** In the first game, [[spoiler:Dr. Diggins after he's sent back to the Jurassic. Thank goodness he manages to find the Stone Sleep device!]]
** Also seen in ''Frontier''. [[spoiler:While time-traveling, your vivosaur partner gets left behind in the late Cretaceous in order to make sure you get home safely. Eventually, you realize that a fossilized Dino Gear-like artifact you'd found earlier in the game really ''is'' your partner's Dino Gear.]]
* StanceSystem: Used in ''Frontier''. While previous games had tactical systems based on a vivosaur's placement on the field, ''Frontier'' instead focuses on how your vivosaur is standing: straight ahead, rearing up, ducking down, or turned around and baring its tail. Each vivosaur has a different set of strong and weak stances, and different attacks can change your or your opponents' stances (though a vivosaur's stance is always reset when it takes its turn).
* StarterMon: Each game in the series does it differently:
** ''Fossil Fighters:'' You start the game with a Spinax who, while common, is decently powerful. However,
at the birth game start, you also get a free bonus fossil of Caro a dinosaur based on how you answer some questions about what you like in your dinos.
** ''Champions:'' Joe Wildwest lets you pick between dinos of the four basic elements, which are hard to get until late game. All can [[MagikarpPower Super Evolve.]] Plus, boys get a T-rex
and girls get a Tricera.
** ''Frontier:'' You befriend Chomp, the most traditionally mons-like dino in the series. He's no recognizable dinosaur species, he's quite powerful, and he evolves at certain points in the game. Plus, he's your TeamPet and your close friend.
* StatGrinding: A mild case in the first game; most stat gains are at levelups but vivosaurs also gain HP gradually between levels. ''Champions'' removes this.
* StockDinosaurs: But also includes any new prehistoric mammals and dinosaurs discovered during
the creation of Erio. Jail also the game.
** The sequel
appears with Uno, Due and Tre seeking information from Precia. Some of the other Numbers soon follow.
*** As of ''Peek'', practically everyone through [=StrikerS=] other than Otto, Deed and Vivio.
*** Caro got REALLY lucky when she met what seems
to be the Huckebein.
** [[spoiler:Levi's QuirkyMiniBossSquad is made up of Expies,
continuing this, including [[Anime/{{Scryed}} Straight Kuma, Tetsunami many other prehistoric creatures from before and after the age of dinosaurs.
* StopHavingFunGuys: [[{{In-Universe}} Rupert]] in ''Champions''. After witnessing Todd take
his big magnum, loss to you in stride, he's baffled as to why Todd's not upset about losing. Though it turns out it's less arrogance that his way is the right one and Asuka Tackibana more ignorance that there are other ways in the first place.
** Turns out it comes from his dad, who tried to drive the "have fun" mentality out of him
and his magic balls.wanted him to bail out when facing even a 50% chance of failure. [[spoiler:This game being high on the idealistic end of the scale, this was just dad trying to protect Rupert from the pain of losing. [[ManipulativeBastard Or so he says...]]]]
* EyeScream: One StrangelyEffectiveDisguise: [[spoiler: Somehow, the majority of the numerous injuries that happens to [[spoiler:Signum]] after she's introduced to [[spoiler:Cinque's Rumble Detonator]] the hard way.
** Also happened to Cinque when she lost her eye to Zest
Dinaurians are fooled by yours and when it grew back.
Without realizing that it wasn't humans that killed his beloved, his soul was consumed by Shabrangido.
Dr. Diggins' masks.]]
** [[spoiler: On a lighter note, during See also ''Champions'', where the airport fire, instead hero(ine) receives a Ty Ranno mask for disguise purposes. No other mask keeps [=NPC=]s from immediately knowing who he/she is; how is this mask different?
* SummonBiggerFish: Calling up Ignosaur to fight Frigisaur.
* TakeThat: After completing the main quest and all the sidequests
of Subaru being rescued by Nanoha, she was rescued by Yunno.''Frontier'', you'll take a group photo with the main cast; to which Dahlia comments "And it's a PICTURE, got it? Not a selfie. That word is so overused these days."
* TakenForGranite: [[spoiler:The [[LizardFolk dinaurians]] have technology that can do this. The technology that un-stones them is also responsible for how you can revive dinosaurs in the first place.
]]
** * ATasteOfPower: Do you go straight to the confrontation with [[spoiler: Zest Ignosaur]] in your party... or do you have some fun with the [[OlympusMons godlike beast]] beforehand?
* TerribleTrio: The BB Gang. Also counts as the GoldfishPoopGang for the first half of the game. In the sequel, it's the Barebones Brigade. ''Frontier'' has Baron von Blackraven
and Quint's survival puts Regius on a more TheAtoner path than in canon. As a result, Riot Force is mostly his creation.gang.
* TheTetrisEffect: Expect to see fossils in various states of cleaning every time you close your eyes.
* TyrannosaurusRex: The game's mascot, and somewhat of the InfinityPlusOneSword. One NPC ensures the player near the end of the game that "all the hype you've ever heard about it is true!"
* TheUnintelligible: Rex of the BB Bandits.
** EloquentInMyNativeTongue: [[spoiler:His true speech patterns tend toward SesquipedalianLoquaciousness. Those kooky English bulldogs...
]]
* FriendToAllChildren: Lina, who brings stuff UnknownItemIdentification: In the first two games, fossils had to an orphanage for abused children every month. Mostly an extension of that side of her that existed be brought back to base and excavated before they could be identified. In ''Frontier'', fossils are "unknown" the first time they're excavated but the sonar will be able to ID them afterward.

* FriendToAllLivingThings: [[{{Irony}} Ironically]], Mazoku Lord Deep Sea Dolphin gets along well with sea life. It doesn't seem ironic at first, because she claims the sea to be her domain, [[FridgeLogic until you remember]]

* FriendlyTickleTorture: Due doesn't like it when Cinque and Tre get mopey, so, she tickles them to get them to stop being "frowny faces".

** [[spoiler:And speaking of Amy and Filia, they did tease Chrono the same way.]]

* VerbalTic: The Digadigs, including Pauleen in ''Champions''. Rosie [[GotMeDoingIt picks it up]]
when she learns Alicia was resurrected as a Mazoku.
* HolyHandGrenade: It turns out Raising Heart's
is a holy-elemental artifact, and therefore capable of hurting Mazoku.
* KnifeNut: [[spoiler:Ixpellia]]

Justified in that her ancestors were experimented on and
mystically made into weapons to fight against Mazoku and the powerful abilities would be passed on throughout the generations.
* LovableSexManiac: Thoth Driver.
* LukeYouAreMyFather: When Reinforce Zwei introduced herself, she calls Hayate "Daddy", especially since Reinforce was made pregnant with Zwei as
part of the creation process, tribe, and that both Hayate's and Reinforce's Linker Cores were used. This scene was pulled from another [[CrackFic crack short]] Nanya wrote.
-->'''Arisa:''' Hayate's not even 10 years old and has a child of her own, and she's the father? Argh! You magic people throw everything out of whack!
** More dramatically, Zest being told that Lutecia
she is his daughter, after hearing the news of Megane and Lutecia's deaths. [[HeroicBSOD He doesn't take it well]].
** [[spoiler:And on a sillier note, Rangort introducing Xellos to his ''daughters''.]]
very ''diga-''displeased.
* MamaBear: Lina, it's VideoGameCrueltyPotential: Roise asks "you probably her only BerserkButton now.
Chrono and Amy
hate me now, don't you?". You actually are just approaching adulthood.
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: Xellos ''really'' does not understand Earth's socioeconomic or environmental patterns, so he keeps trying
ABLE to create misery, and ends up a town hero.
* MarkOfTheSupernatural:

* ObfuscatingStupidity: A number of characters come across far less dangerous than they really are upon first glance, notable is Lina (who's a lot more mellow than she was in [[{{LightNovel/Slayers}} canon]]), Nanoha (who's seen being mischievous quite often), Reinforce Zwei (who's so incredibly cute, bubbly and energetic that you want to take her home), and Caro (who's so cute that people
say is [[TastesLikeDiabetes too cute sometimes.]])
* OvershadowedByAwesome:
"yes".
* RealityWarper: The high-ranking Mazoku ** In ''Frontier,'' when you [[spoiler: travel back in general, time]], you can encounter dino nests. You can cheerfully drive your Bone Buggy over them and shatter them to pieces, for no other reason than they're there. (Though they magically reform themselves if you wait.)
* XMeetsY: ''Franchise/JurassicPark'' meets {{Mon}}s. (''Magazine/NintendoPower'' said "meets ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}''",
but special mention goes to Death Bringer and Huraker.
"meets ''VideoGame/{{Spectrobes}}''" is much more apt.)
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Hayate in WeCannotGoOnWithoutYou: In the ''[=StrikerS=]'' arc. Surprisingly, Regius as well.first game's Master-rank Level-Up Battles, losing even one vivosaur makes you lose the whole fight.
* RedHerringTwist: Initially it looks like Lina will be able WellDoneSonGuy: Rupert's father is... difficult to revive Alicia, but then a few scenes later please, shall we learn she failed.

** Miyuki is a Franchise/KamenRider fan.
** A rather unusual one that doubles as ActorAllusion, but Arisa Bannings, when using her Holy power, has blue wings and a sword made of blue fire, allowing her to fly and fight against Mazoku. If you colored her
non-indicative names, like "Sleepy Robin," "Chocolate Soiree," or "Raspberry Bell."
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Rosie's pink

--> '''Shiro Takamachi''':[[MyNameIsInigoMontoya My name is Shiro Takamachi.]] [[PapaWolf I heard you nearly killed my daughter.]] PrepareToDie.
** Shabranigdo gets one to [[VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy Gilgamesh]] and [[Webcomic/BobAndGeorge Mynd]] in the same scene.
** Nanoha has a series of weird dreams and thinks that things
could be worse, she could be [[FanFic/WhiteDevilOfTheMoon at her brother's wedding and end up hospitalized because of overusing her magic when she was supposed to be resting.]]
{{Justified|Trope}} by having met and interacted with the Lord of Nightmares several times:
passed off as an example Lina was thrown over a decade back in time, just enough time for being back to her homeworld when the fusion [[LiteraryAgentHypothesis artistic rendtion]] of Dark Star and Vorfeed is arriving to the Red World so she could kill them and eventually [[spoiler:have their reincarnations/[[SealedInsideAPersonShapedCan seals]] join her family as adopted grandchildren]]. The fact that L-sama has admitted to having fun watching Lina's life and its repercussions only reinforces that opinion.
** [[spoiler:Lampshaded in [=Vivid=], when Fate learns about
a prophecy that seems to talk about Vivio, Einhart, and Ixpellia.]]
** [[spoiler: It also appears that Arashi was included in that prophecy if the term "Scion of Gold" is applicable due to his natural use of Chaos Magic.]]
* TheReveal: Death Bringer Garoth's priestess being Alicia at the end of the ''A's'' arc.
* TheSlowPath: As it turns out, not only Lina was sent to another world,
strawberry blonde, but sent back in time as well.
* TrainingFromHell:
[[/folder]]

[[folder: U-Z]]
* UnhandThemVillain: [[spoiler: When a Mazoku holds Rio hostage, Nove demands that he let her go. He does, and then blasts her [[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice through the torso]] in mid-air.
* WhamLine: In [=StrikerS=]...
-->[[spoiler:'''Jail:'''I remembered... I remembered the location... Of Al Hazard.]]
* WhatIsThisThingYouCallLove: BloodKnight Riksfalto has a case of this in regards to Yuuno, the boy who nearly killed her. [[DefeatMeansFriendship Near-defeat]] [[LoveAtFirstPunch means love?]]
* [[YouCantGoHomeAgain You Can't Go Home Again]]: Filia chooses to leave the Red World, believing
there's ''really'' no place for her there anymore due to her actions and the actions of her clan. Lindy allows her to stay with her on Earth.
* YouHaveNoChanceToSurvive: Death Bringer Garoth [[DoNotAdjustYourSet gives one to the populous under the TSAB]].
-->'''Death Bringer Garoth:'''You people, who have lived here for years in relative peace, know nothing of the terrors as society falls, crumbling away to dust. You think that your precious Bureau can protect you, and yet, your precious Bureau
explaining why Dr. Diggins' hair is completely helpless against me. So, just sit back, relax and enjoy your last few moments before I destroy your entire world. Oh, I know you don't believe me, so, how about ''green.''

a small sample?
