* CassandraTruth: [[AvertedTrope Averted]] [[DefiedTrope Defied]] by the Cult; they take visions seriously.seriously. Kyouko and her council learn of an ominous vision predicting her death. What do they do? Why, take the matter 100% seriously and plan her itinerary to avoid placing her in that sort of situation. This is stated to be cult policy regarding prophecies. [[spoiler: Kyouko's personal stake in finding Homura, and with Mami and Yuma not available for the mission, forces her to go to her prophesied place of death anyway, to which Mami calls her on it. At least they ditched the submarine invasion route (from where the killing shot came from) that was seen in the vision.]]

* ThereAreNoTherapists: Gloriously averted with the Mental Health Division. The MSY was genre savvy enough to realize this trope, and set-up a division to provide psychological services to Puella Magis, given how critical emotions are to Puella Magis, and the immense stresses of that occupation. Indeed, this trope has been so thoroughly averted that therapists are very influential among Puellae Magi!

* WorldWarIII: The Unification War, fought between the [[PeoplesRepublicOfTyranny Freedom Alliance]], a coalition of states whose hyperclass (the economic elite, much wealthier than the rest of the population) had come to believe it was morally wrong to hand out relief to the poorer strata of the population, and the Unified Front, [[ALighterShadeOfGrey nations whose hyperclass, while still believing itself morally superior to the poors, at least helped them survive]], sparked when the Freedom Alliance willfully exterminated entire segments of St. Petersburg population for daring to complain about their living conditions. The Unified Front won through a combination of economic superiority, Alliance [=AIs=] being so appalled at their masters' atrocities they would defect at the first chance, and the vast majority of the MSY being on the Unified Front's side.

* MindlinkMates: [[spoiler:Mami had a lover named Akari who was capable of influencing the souls, including linking them. Then one day the plane they were on was shot down, with Akari's soul gem getting nearly fully corrupted. With no chances to save her, they decided to link their minds one last time. Unfortunately for Mami, through the link she essentially got a first-row seat to Akari witching out for an instant before being purified by a mysterious light. This proved to be so traumatizing that she requisted Homura to help her with reformatting herself.]]

* RaisedCatholic: Both Homura comes from a Catholic background. Kyouko might had one too, although her father being married and with a family could mean that she had an Anglican background instead.

* PsychicBlockDefense: Homura has a particularly nasty one. She was tricked into seeing a psychiatrist once by her friends. The telepath was forced to flee the room sobbing when Homura fed her a few of her more bleak memories.
** A classic countermeasure to hostile mindreading is giving the reader a magically-induced cerebral hemorrhage, [[spoiler: Which Mami did to her MHD minder who tried to read her while Mami was suffering from intense headache (which the magical girls should not have). For extra irony, the MHD minder's name is Charlotte.]]
