* GenreSavvy: Assassin is onto 's true nature from the beginning. He repeatedly tells to cut the bullshit and does a better job of defending his argument than does.

* TemptingFate: The manager at the Fuyuki National Bank decides to advertise that their bank is safe from Lupin, a man who takes such things as a challenge. And to top it off, theft by a Lupin is a totally different category of insurance than normal theft insurance... and the Fuyuki National Bank didn't have Lupin insurance.

* ButForMeItWasTuesday: Lupin flat out tells that no, he wasn't one of his great enemies, he was just one of an endless succession of people seeking to make a name for himself at Lupin's expense. The Lupin gang barely spared a thought for him between occasions when they encountered him in the past, and wouldn't waste much time thinking about him once this confrontation was over, either.

* ForWantOfANail: Lupin's presence and actions turn Fate/Zero canon upside down. New alliances and rivalries arise, Servants are defeated in different order and in different manner, static characters like Saber and Archer get actual character development, and Kirei's character takes a turn for the better.
* FriendlyEnemy: Assassin and Zenigeta's relationship is this. Saber and Kirei are baffled by the concept.

* ForWantOfANail: ForWantOfANail:
** Everything happens because the Throne of Heroes interprets Kirei's catalyst not as "mask once owned by Hassan-e-Sabbah" as intended, but as "valuable item once stolen by Lupin III".

** To protect Lupin from his father, Kirei claims that Lupin was acting on his orders in . He is also surprised that . At the climax, he reflects on how different he is from the man he was before meeting Assassin, including the fact that he has just saved someone's life when even a few days earlier he would have left them to die. (It's purely a self-serving gesture; his interests are what have changed.)

* ArtisticLicensePhysics: The electricity from Rider's Gordius Wheel hits several cars with "lightning-like strikes" in one scene, hitting their gas tanks and causing them to explode. In reality, when a car is struck by lightning the electricity runs in a closed circuit through the chassis until it dissipates, which is why inside a car (with closed doors) is one of the safest places to be in a thunderstorm.
