* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: Shadowstep knows better than to fall prey to NoOneCouldSurviveThat, and goes off to check for Tick Tock's body after dropping her from miles above the city. Unfortunately for him, Tick Tock knows the cloud-walking spell from Sonic Rainboom, and uses it to escape through the city's smog layers.

* TheBeastMaster: Fluttershy's powers, once unlocked, allow her to command animals to aid her in battle. As there are no animals in the north of Equestria-V, she is given a spirit familiar named Ophanim that can transform into an animal. He is able to change into any animal at will after Fluttershy realizes he can, despite being told he couldn't.
* BerserkButton: Applejack learns the hard way not to call Havocwing a chicken.

* BiTheWay: Briarthorn tells Flathoof, quite simply, that he's not picky about who he's with, he's just perky. It's hinted that he has no problems with the possibility of a three-way with Cookie Dough and her husband, and that he and Haute Couture have perhaps engaged in activities together in the past. Flathoof is extremely disturbed by this, but shakes it off.

* BoisterousBruiser: Havocwing is the villainous version of this, while Rainbow Dash fills the heroic role pretty well.
* BornUnlucky: Tick Tock seems to have the worst of luck, and gets very few breaks as the fic goes along. Unfortunately, this seems to rub off on those she travels with, leading the Mane Six, Flathoof, and Lockwood into multiple dangerous situations through no fault of her own.

* [[BreatherEpisode Breather Chapters]]: According WordOfGod, Chapters 27 and 28 are meant entirely to be attempts to relieve the tension after the Mane Six have finally reached a safe haven, giving them a chance to relax, reflect, and prepare for the last leg of their journey. Both chapters are filled with comic relief, character development, and world-building, as well as fan-submitted original characters appearances to help lighten the tone.

Both chapters are filled with comic relief, character development, and world-building, as well as fan-submitted original characters appearances to help lighten the tone.

* CommanderContrarian: Rainbow Dash gets worse and worse about this as the fic continues, but it isn't too noticeable until after meeting Grayscale Force, who encourages the behavior as part of her method of corrupting Rainbow's Loyalty. She drops this trait pretty much entirely after Chapter 23, when she realizes what she's been doing and vows to fix things.

* EmotionEater: Red Velvet feeds on the fear and terror of others to give her strength, and is actually weakened by it's opposite, joy. Pinkie is implied have shades of it as well, becoming more powerful when she's happy and less powerful when she's sad.

* FiveBadBand[=/=]ThePsychoRangers: The Mean Six
** BigBad: Starlight Shadow
** TheDragon: Grayscale Force
** EvilGenius: Curaçao
** TheBrute: Havocwing, Red Velvet
** DarkChick: Insipid
** Or, if one takes all of Team Evil into account, then the band could be read as:
*** BiggerBad: Nihila, [[spoiler: though she is destroyed and absorbed by Silvertongue in Chapter 25]]

* [[ImAHumanitarian I'm A Ponytarian]]: Red Velvet's main quirk that she uses to frighten her victims is to remind them that she eats pony meat and blood like they were candy. This is ''not'' just her trying to be creepy, as she has killed and eaten two named characters (Jetstream and Pinpoint) and several unnamed soldiers

* InsufferableGenius: Tick Tock knows everything and doesn't like to be argued with. This gets on Twilight's and Rainbow Dash's nerves very fast and does little to endear her to the others either. [[CharacterDevelopment She's become better about it in later chapters, however, as she's learned things about the world that even she didn't know.]]

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Tick Tock is a [[InsufferableGenius total]] [[DeadpanSnarker jerk]], but she is trying her best to help the Mane Six get back home and lately has been regretting her sour attitude towards them, especially seeing as they've saved her life multiple times now. She's toned down the jerkiness in recent chapters, though she's still got plenty of snark.
* LadyOfWar[=/=]MinoredInAssKicking: Curaçao is initially regarded by the Mane Six's group as a non-combatant, nothing more than a traveling companion of Starlight Shadow's that serves as her lieutenant and navigator and is much too fancy to participate in any real fighting. In Chapter 21, she proves to Rarity that she is not only very nimble, but reveals only the [[ChameleonCamouflage weakest manifestation]] of her powers in order to keep Rarity distracted. In Chapter 24, she fights against Pinkie and apparently is highly-skilled in martial arts, which in combination with her ability to turn invisible, makes her extremely effective.

* ManipulativeBastard: Events in Chapter 19 reveal that [[spoiler: Silvertongue]] is responsible for everything related to the world's current state, and he did so by manipulating the gryphons in fighting against evil and bringing balance to the world, then committing genocide against them. He later reveals in Chapter 25 that everything he did in those events and everything that followed was [[spoiler: a ruse to fool Nihila into believing him loyal to her, so that when he had an opportunity, he could destroy her. ** The Mean Six are [[ManipulativeBastard manipulative bitches]] at first, to varying degrees. The whole first phase of their plan was to corrupt the Mane Six away from their Element of Harmony via manipulation. Starlight, Curaçao, and Grayscale are probably the most effective in this regard, and [[LeeroyJenkins Havoc]], surprisingly, doesn't do too badly either. This plan is abandonned once the Mane Six decide they don't want to associate with the Mean Six anymore.

* [[MidSeasonTwist Seventh Chapter Twist]]: In Chapter 7, the Mean Six are finally revealed to the audience, and rather than being just simple [[EvilCounterpart Evil Counterparts]], it turns out that they are clones infused with evil magic to twist their minds and bodies. This is also the chapter where Shadowstep [[spoiler: dies in the Blood Mire, where he later becomes zombified]]. Applies retroactively too, as in Chapter 25, Silvertongue reveals that since this event also weakened Nihila, [[spoiler: it allowed him to finally put his centuries-long plan to destroy her into action]].

* SirSwearsalot: While a few of the characters native to Equestria V swear a little bit, Tick Tock and Havocwing take the cake. Tick Tock is this by virtue of a lot of her Britishisms being rather crude, but Havocwing is this all the time. If there was any clue that she's Fluttershy's [[spoiler: anti-clone]], this is probably on top of the heap.
* SmugSuper: Starlight Shadow is incredibly arrogant, and with good reason - she is easily the most powerful unicorn amongst the cast, though she likes to claim Twilight Sparkle is almost (not quite, but almost) her equal.

* TheStarscream: [[spoiler:Silvertongue had been plotting to overthrow Nihila from before he even started working for her. In chapter 25, he succeeds.]]

* TheStrategist: Curaçao is apparently responsible for the majority of the Mean Six's attack strategy in Chapter 21, and has learned to tap into Starlight's semi-psychic connection between them in order to direct the battle while Rarity is busy trying to find her. She acknowledges that Grayscale has some part in the plans as well, but Curaçao is definitely the mastermind between the pair.

* TerseTalker: Queen Blackburn.

* ValleyGirl: Insipid is, like, so totally this that it's not even, y'know, funny?

* WickedCultured: Silvertongue always dresses in style, likes opera sung in a dead language, [[WineIsClassy drinks wine at breakfast]], etc.

* WineIsClassy: Silvertongue really enjoys his magmaberry wine, so much so that he drinks the stuff at every meal, including ''breakfast''.

* AffablyEvil: Silvertongue is exceedingly polite to absolutely everypony he speaks to, despite being a genocide-engineering, war-mongering, tyrannical liar. He tends to be less so when angry, but doesn't not really ever lose his cool.

* ChivalrousPervert[=/=]LovableSexManiac: Briarthorn is clearly motivated to great lengths at the prospect of bedding any or all of the Mane Six's group and is not at all shy about his desire to do so. However, it is quite clear that he is very quick to notice when somepony is off-limits, as despite first hitting on Fluttershy, he immediately stops doing so after the first thing she says being a sincere worry for Lockwood's well-being.

* TheDitz: Insipid is pretty vapid, to absolutely astounding levels sometimes. That she can't remember anypony's name in Twilight's group except for Rarity ([[JustifiedTrope justified]]) is particularly amazing, especially since it actually starts making ''[[{{Pacifist}} Fluttershy]]'' angry enough to want to shut her up.

* DrinkingContest: One of the two major focuses of Chapter 28 is a drinking contest, with Briarthorn taking up one side and Applejack, Rainbow Dash, and Tick Tock taking up the other. [[HiddenDepths Tick Tock's participating, and in fact her very enjoyment of alcohol, comes as a shock to everypony but most especially Rarity, as until this point she'd been considered more of a classy girl.]]

to:

** Lockwood: Shows that he is a [[TheHeart caring individual]] with a terrible sense of humor, and is extremely polite to everypony, everyone, especially ladies.

*** Starlight Shadow: [[SmugSuper The smuggest of smugs]], she talks down to literally everypony in her presence bar Silvertongue himself and wields more than enough power to back it up.

to:

*** Starlight Shadow: [[SmugSuper The smuggest of smugs]], she talks down to literally everypony everyone in her presence bar Silvertongue himself and wields more than enough power to back it up.

* HairTriggerTemper: Both Havocwing and Red Velvet have relatively short fuses compared to everypony else in their group, but it's hard not to notice it when one looks at who the other four are. Rainbow Dash tends to have a short fuse in her own group as well, but keeps it under control phenomenally well compared to the two of them.

** Lockwood, the eternally generous and kind pegasus who knows everypony worth knowing, hates being doted on like a foal and repeatedly asks Fluttershy not to do it. Flathoof barely gets away with it, since he's family. As to why he hates it? His mother apparently doted on him relentlessly in an attempt to replace his father, so he's apparently repressing that sort of emotional attachment. [[spoiler: His fiancee, Queen Blackburn, is shown not to be very doting at all]].

** Pinkie Pie, the eternal party animal, is apparently a light drinker who prefers to stay "sober-ish" at parties in order to enjoy the antics of others. So apparently she only acts wild and crazy at parties that ''don't'' involve alcohol, as everypony is more mellow.

* InsistentTerminology: Time Turner does not go by ''Mister'' Turner except, apparently, to Tick Tock. Everypony else is supposed to be calling him 'Doctor' Turner, and he often has to correct them.
* InstantCostumeChange: Pinkie Pie changes the kind of powers she wants to use in the given situation by changing her outfit to match her perceived GenreShift. Nopony even sees her do it.

* LampshadeWearing: Briarthorn is apparently a world-class drunk, as is proudly displayed on several plaques on the wall of the Wyrm's Head pub. Each one contains a picture of him at the event in which he was declared "Drunk of the Year", and in each picture he is shown wearing a lampshade and enjoying himself immensely. The lampshade in question is treated as a trophy and is prominently displayed nearby with the signatures of everypony who has won the award.

* LivingLieDetector: Insipid is a variation as she's complete worthless in this regard, but can tell almost ''instantly'' when somepony is really Curaçao in disguise. So really she's more of a Living Curaçao Detector.
** On the other hand, Curaçao herself plays this straight, to the point where she also notices half-truths and evasions.

* LoopholeAbuse: A majority of the problems with New Pandemonium City's [[ObstructiveBureaucrat corrupt bureaucracy]] can be solved with a little knowledge of how the system works. Lockwood has thoroughly proven he's not above a little 'unscrupulous activity' to get around the system for the benefit of others. Snapshot seems to be quite well-versed in the practice as well. The fact that Flathoof is friends with both of them is a major boon for the Mane Six. Unfortunately, this practice inadvertently gets Snapshot killed and kicks off the plot, as it alerts Silvertongue to the Mane Six's existence far sooner than it would have had they gone through the paces like everypony else.

* MasterActor: Curaçao uses this in combination with her shapeshifting magic to perfectly imitate anypony, and has at the very least mimicked both Rarity and Applejack perfectly, from their manner of speaking to their accents on down.
* TheMatchmaker: Rarity actively tries to get Fluttershy and Lockwood together, despite Fluttershy not wanting her help and Lockwood not even aware of it (as far as we know). Fluttershy tells her off for it after Rarity apparently changes her mind in Chapter 22, afraid that Fluttershy will be devastated if Lockwood dies due to his injury.
** [[spoiler: Since the reveal of Lockwood's engagement, she seems to reconsider to never be one again.]]

* PowerCopying: Insipid's power is to steal and use the power of anypony else, and unfortunately for them [[InstantExpert it doesn't take her long to figure it out]]. Usually in her attempts though, [[NiceJobFixingItVillain she helps the heroes as much as the villains]].

* SesquipedalianLoquaciousness: Silvertongue has some shades to this (though his is more SpockSpeak), but nopony takes the cake more than Starlight Shadow. The latter, of course, breaks form when she's angry, while the former does not in the slightest.

to:

* TheTeetotaler: Flathoof, to everypony's surprise, outs himself as one in Chapter 28 when not partaking in the celebratory round of drinks in Lockwood's honor. Briarthorn and the other Hope's Point natives are all absolutely stunned, coming complete with the jukebox delivering a RecordNeedleScratch and the bartender dropping a glass he was washing.

Briarthorn and the other Hope's Point natives are all absolutely stunned, coming complete with the jukebox delivering a RecordNeedleScratch and the bartender dropping a glass he was washing.

* WeaksauceWeakness: Pinkie Pie is explicitly given a critical weakness to her otherwise seemingly limitless power: If somepony convinces themselves that what she's doing is impossible, suddenly it ''is''. Gilderoy explains this rule straight-up as the reason Pinkie can't just take them all home right then - the Chronomancers wrote the rules of space/time eons ago, and claimed it impossible to travel between dimensions in such a way. In Chapter 24, Curaçao figures the weakness out and uses it to easily handle Pinkie Pie in combat.
** Another limitation is that whatever Pinkie Pie does, it has to be entertaining to her or her "audience", as her power is tied to her Element of Laughter. For example, making food appear for only the sake of food is not possible for her, as it wouldn't make for a "good joke".

* WildCardExcuse: According to Gilderoy, there is an old gryphon saying that says, essentially, "It's magic, I don't have to explain shit". Naturally, magic and techno-magic are used throughout the fic as reasons why certain impossible things are possible. You just did something beyond comprehension, and somepony asks you how you did it? Magic.

* CatFight: [[AvertedTrope Averted]] in Chapter 21 with the Rarity/Curaçao duel. Curaçao shows that she is a ''mean'' fighter, using tackles, choke holds, and just generally making Rarity's life hell without any dress ripping or hair pulling involved. Rarity, to her credit, fights back by using her magic to throw Curaçao around (though Curaçao is a nimble mare) and eventually resorts to using rocks as weapons.

* ConvectionSchmonvection: [[AvertedTrope Magnificently averted]] with the Redblade Mountains, which are incredibly hot ''active'' volcanoes. Twilight must use a great deal of her magic to provide the party with a protective bubble that shields them from the heat, and even then it's still ridiculously hot. Rainbow gets scalded when she ventures out of the bubble for all of a couple of seconds, and when actually traveling through one of the volcanoes, Rarity has to assist Twilight and it is ''still'' too hot.

* CounterpartCombatCoordination: Played straight and [[AvertedTrope averted]]. The Mean Six seem to be purposefully trying to match up their members against the Mane Six according to skill and threat level. So far, Pinkie has been unanimously paired against Red Velvet, and Tick Tock has partnered with Rarity against Insipid, and Twilight against Starlight Shadow. Curaçao, Grayscale Force, and Havocwing have yet to face their counterparts, though Grayscale notes at the end of Chapter 21 that she was supposed to, until Havocwing insisted otherwise.

* BuffySpeak: Tick Tock and Twilight often go into lengthy descriptions of how certain types of work; Gilderoy takes this [[UpToEleven even further]], but does a reasonable job of putting it all in layman's terms. When these are referred to again in the future, Rarity is usually able to recite it word-for-word, often adding her own flair to it; Rainbow Dash and Applejack, on the other hand, fall into [[BuffySpeak this]]. [[TheDitz Insipid fills the role for her group]].

* AchievementsInIgnorance: Insipid's lack of understanding of how the powers she steals work allows her to use them in ways that the original user either never thought of or thought impossible. Her use of Rarity's boosting magic is a prime example, as she uses it to boost ''herself'', which Rarity either can't do or at least has yet to try.
