* [[https://i.imgur.com/qQ3j7MB.png This]] recounting of a person playing a DarkerAndEdgier tabletop game, which was set firmly on the [[CrapsackWorld deepest Cynical side]] of the SlidingScaleOfIdealismVsCynicism (to quote the story, "if somebody asked me for help with their sister who was being mugged, [[WoundedGazelleGambit it was a hook to mug me]]") and featured "corruption points" which represent how evil a character has become. The person in question played an AllLovingHero fisherman who continued being kind and friendly even though BeingGoodSucks in this world. Eventually they reached the main villain, who had used an ArtifactOfDoom [[OneWingedAngel to ascend to godhood]] [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity at the cost of multiplying his corruption points by 100]]; as he had 750 corruption points ''before'' using the artifact, the end result was described as being enough to make an EldritchAbomination [[EvenEvilHasStandards freak out]]. Just when all hope seemed lost, the player was able to revive and heal himself through a few lucky rolls, and then entered his LimitBreak state, the special ability of which was to give himself a damage boost based on the corruption points of the enemy. Since the BigBad had so many corruption points, this gave him a damage multiplier of ''112,500'', [[DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu allowing him to kill the]] BigBad [[OneHitKill in a single hit]]. Even better, he then used the same crystal used by the BigBad to become a god; just as the [=GM=] announced he had become the new BigBad, the player revealed that he had '''[[IncorruptiblePurePureness 0 corruption points]]'''. [[LoopholeAbuse Since zero times anything is still zero]], the ArtifactOfDoom turned him not into a new BigBad, but a GodOfGood. In the epilogue of the campaign, he used his RealityWarper powers to make the world a better place, turning it from a CrapsackWorld to a WorldHalfFull.

* Most of the time, a CharacterArc in ''SurvivalOfTheFittest'' has a BittersweetEnding at best, due to the fact that [[KillEmAll almost the entire cast will die]]. However, in version four [[spoiler:STAR comes in to rescue students as long as they're not actively playing the game and come forward for it]]. As a result, this was how a portion of characters' storylines ended.

* Very few [[EldritchAbomination cosmic]] [[BodyHorror horror]] stories have happy endings, but ''Roleplay/RubyQuest'' is one of those few. The protagonists have to face mutations, monstrous abominations, unspeakable evils from the beginning of time, and trying to escape from a mysterious facility [[spoiler:where they have been trapped for over a year already, with several dozen failed escape attempts]]. The main characters get the happy ending they deserve, [[spoiler:some of the others don't]].
** In addition, ''how'' the happy ending is earned in ''Roleplay/RubyQuest'' is quite possibly one of the most literal and unintentional examples around (think of it as having been a point-and-click adventure game, except by virtue of being roleplayed by post on an Imageboard, it was very open-ended). Ruby and Tom come across a medical cabinet with a small lock, which the players [[DungeonBypass have Tom bash open with the crowbar]]. Some tranquilizer is found inside, which they take in a syringe. A little later, they encounter, have a fight with, and eventually subdue with the tranquilizer a psychotic and suicidal [[spoiler: Stitches]]. Immediately after, it is discovered that [[spoiler: Stiches]] ''actually had the key'' they were supposed to open the medical cabinet with. Then, instead of killing him and being done with it, the players stuff him into a revival locker and leave him, but not before also slipping him a portrait with himself, Ruby, Tom, and all the other patients and staff in the facility before things went to hell. Cut to the endgame of the story. Ruby, Tom, [[spoiler: and an ''also'' unintentionally-rescued Jay]], have unlocked the escape hatch to the facility, but [[ImplacableMan Ace]] is in close pursuit. [[spoiler: Tom realizes that Ace will catch them if all three of them try to go up the hatch, as they won't be able to close it in time. Someone has to stay behind and delay Ace. After much wailing and gnashing from the players and cry of foul play, it is somehow painfully decided that Tom be the one to stay behind. Ruby and Jay make their way up the ladder, just as Ace appears in the doorway. Tom prepares himself for the inevitable outcome, but then...guess who? ''Stitches'' suddenly tackles Ace out of nowhere, and gives Tom enough time to scramble up the ladder and slam the hatch (and also causing quite a few players to fervently thank the "DeusExMachina").]] By a combination of breaking something they weren't supposed to and being incredibly merciful, the players ''literally'' earned their happy ending.
