* AntiVillain: Sir Ector may be a [[JerkAss jerk]] to Wart, isn't evil, but he's still more often than not evil, just a [[JerkAss bossy, condescending jerk to both Wart and Merlin]] and [[ControlFreak very strict]], strict]] [[MiseryBuildsCharacter and demanding]]. demanding]], and he's more than willing to quickly add on hours more chores to Wart's schedule for even the smallest slights, and giving Wart loads of menial labor to do with only a degrading squire position to look forward to, even if it's something Wart wants, is not portrayed as a good thing. [[Creator/DisneysNineOldMen Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston]] also point out in their book Literature/TheDisneyVillain that if Wart had stayed under Ector's thumb for the rest of his life, he would have gradually degenerated into the cynical bully that Ector's son Kay is.

Added DiffLines:

* AndTheAdventureContinues: King Arthur takes the throne and Merlin takes his place as his advisor, leaving a lot yet to be told.

Added DiffLines:

* ShaggyDogStory: Nothing that happens in the film seems particularly relevant to Arthur actually drawing the Sword from the Stone. Merlin's lessons are obviously going to have a big effect on the kind of King that Arthur is going to become, but the film stops at that point.

* HappilyEverBefore: The movie ends at the start of Wart's reign, and therefore before the fallout with Lancelot many years of chivalry and stuff. majesty yet to come. The tragic end of that story is barely even hinted at.

* JerkJock: Kay, again, albeit the medieval version (meaning swordplay and jousting instead of football). The idea that Wart wants to be one as well hits Merlin's BerserkButton.

to:

* JerkAss: Whereas Sir Ector has [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold a couple of sympathetic moments in spite of his cold, authoritarian personality]], his son Kay has none of that going for him, and he always acts mean and condescending towards Wart. The only remotely likable moment he has is when he bows to Wart in the ending, but even then he showed reluctance to do it.
* JerkAssVictim: The wolf who lurks around the edges of the film, looking for creatures to devour, is reduced to a ButtMonkey.
* JerkJock: Kay, again, albeit Kay is one appropriate to the medieval version (meaning swordplay and time period, with jousting instead of football).and other tournament sports. The idea that Wart wants to be one as well hits Merlin's BerserkButton.

** Kay is implied to have at least a few gold flecks. At the end when his father demands he bow to Wart, Kay does so sullenly at first... then after looking at him, does so sincerely.

* MayDecemberRomance: Subverted, fortunately or unfortunately. The poor girl squirrel who is at best a teenager in human years has no idea that the squirrel she has fallen for is actually a prepubescent boy.

* AbusiveParents: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]. Sir Ector is a strict and demanding hardass on Wart, giving him loads of menial labor to do and is swift to add on hours more work for even minor infractions Wart does, but he's not evil or even all that mean either. His personality is basically a byproduct of the martial culture he lives in. When he's introduced, he even shows concern for Wart's wellbeing, berating his real son, Kay, for letting Wart go off into the forest on his own and risk getting eaten by wolves.
