* BullyingADragon: The [[KidsAreCruel children who make ridicule and laugh at Melody]] during her birthday party. At ''best,'' that's no way to curry favor with royalty, especially with her parents watching. At worst, she could order them to be thrown in the castle dungeons--or worse. Luckily for them, she's nice enough not to do such a thing.

** Melody making a deal with a sea witch after Ariel caused her to run away harkens back to when Triton unwittingly caused Ariel to make her ''own'' deal with the sea witch's sister.

** Subtle and something that viewers can see if paying close attention -- when Eric tried to ask Ariel's name in the first movie, his first guess was "Melody". And their daughter's name ''is'' Melody.

** Ariel and Melody's joint reaction Melody are utterly shocked when the latter impulsively gives Morgana Triton's trident to spite Ariel for lying about her heritage.
** Melody's justified reaction Melody has a moment of terror when she realizes that she is about to be transformed back into a human.

** Ariel making the choice of keeping Melody ignorant of her heritage resulted in catastrophic consequences. Melody even called Ariel out on this, but forgives Ariel at the end when her impulsive decision to give Morgana the Trident nearly dooms Atlantica. Moral of the movie: Keeping secrets from those you care about can cause the person being lied to not to trust them again. It also makes things worse.

Added DiffLines:

* {{Retcon}}: At one point in mermaid form, Ariel sings in her grotto--which Triton destroyed in the first movie. Though it's possible he fixed it up as a token of apology.

* DoesNotLikeShoes:
** Melody strongly prefers going barefoot, only wearing shoes during one scene (where she's pretty much forced to).
** More subtly, Ariel herself shows signs of this. When no one is looking, she slips off her shoes and dips her feet into a pond. Later she goes barefoot in the final scene even though the plot doesn't require it. Melody inherited yet another trait from her mother, it seems.

* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: {{Implied}} with Alex, the blond merboy Melody meets. See the NiceGuy section.

* NiceGuy: Alex, the merboy Melody meets in Atlantica. When Melody accidentally bumps into him, he (at the same time as Melody), apologizes. He then greets her, politely asks her name, and even (along with his friends) invited her to hang out. He's too sweet.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero:
** Melody giving the trident to Morgana got the whole kingdom in ''deep'' trouble.
** Ariel not telling Melody why she couldn't explore the sea is what sets the whole plot in motion.
