** Mufasa possibly means King in Manazoto, or he would be named after a past african king (not certain). Indeed, he is probably the kingly of Kings of the Pride Lands.

** Nala means gift. It can be taken as a clue about her foreign origins (as a diplomatic gift) to avoid incest implications in the plot.

** Banzai means furtive. There is no much ways to pretend it applies to the character.
** Sarabi means mirage. There is nothing which seems to be deceptive about her... [[BeneathSuspicion right]]?

* MeaningfulName: Simba means lion in Swahili and Simba is a lion.

to:

* MeaningfulName: Every name can be translated from Swahili (except Ed, Timon and Scar), but it is more or less meaningful for each character.
**
Simba means lion in Swahili and and, indeed, [[ADogNamedDog Simba is a lion. lion]].
** Mufasa possibly means King in Manazoto, or he would be named after a past african king (not certain). Indeed, he is probably the kingly of Kings of the Pride Lands.
** Scar, who has a very obvious one across the left eye. There may be a heavy background behind this, but it is never detailed in the film.
** Nala means gift. It can be taken as a clue about her foreign origins (as a diplomatic gift) to avoid incest implications in the plot.
** Pumbaa means foolish. It's right that he's not especially smart and gets often fooled by Timon, but he has also moments of perspicacity.
** Rafiki means friend. He looks like to be a precious adviser for the king, and his advices were indeed decisive to resolve Simba's inner conflict.
** Zazu means movement. Of course, since he is a bird, he moves a lot and fast by flying, but he doesn't look especially restless.
** Shenzi means barbarous. Of course, she is part of a species excluded from the "civilized" Pride Lands because they don't respect its rules, but that seems to be true for every hyena. Unless it means she is worse than the other.
** Banzai means furtive. There is no much ways to pretend it applies to the character.
** Sarabi means mirage. There is nothing which seems to be deceptive about her... [[BeneathSuspicion right]]?

* MeaningfulName: Simba means lion in Swahili (and can also mean "courageous warrior"). Everybody else has a meaningful name too, in English if not in Swahili (Scar) - it is even debated that 'Ed' is short for 'eddy', a word in English meaning 'whirlpool'. Timon is the only exception.

** Most of the characters' names are Swahili words: Simba ("Lion" or "Courageous Warrior"), Mufasa ("King"; in Manazoto rather than Swahili), Pumbaa ("Simpleton"), Nala ("Gift"), Rafiki ("Friend"), Shenzi ("Savage") and Banzai ("Skulk").

** The Zulu chants provided by Lebo M. certainly count as well.

** Banzai counts for it twice as it's also a Japanese word which has different meanings depending on the context of the sentence, but which sometimes translates to "Forever", among other things, again depending on the context in which it's being used.
* BitingTheHandHumor[=/=]SelfDeprecation: Zazu starts to sing "It's a Small World". Scar freaks out and demands him to sing anything else but that. Even funnier, in the Broadway show, Zazu may sing "Be Our Guest" from ''Disney/BeautyAndTheBeast'' or "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" from ''Film/MaryPoppins'' (two other Disney movies that also became successful Broadway musicals; they have all been [[FriendlyEnemy "rival"]] shows at one time or another).

* PopulationControl: Cleverly implied. Mufasa was a wise king, and learned 'the cycle of life' means balance of predators, prey and the land's resources, and a king must understand, respect and maintain that balance. Scar on the other hand [[spoiler:does not. In elevating the hyenas from scavengers to apex predators he creates [[{{Dystopia}} an unholy union that overwhelms their food source]]. To sustain them, the prey must breed like wildfire, consequently resulting in overgrazing, [[CrapsackWorld turning the lush Pridelands into an arid wasteland]]. Resources exhausted, the herds have no choice but to leave. Scar however refuses to abandon his kingdom ([[FridgeBrilliance as that would mean he's no longer king]]), thus condemning his subjects to death by starvation.]]
