** We even learn a little more about the Patrician's secretary, Drumknott, although he has changed very little as a character since he was introduced in ''Feet of Clay''. For example, both Vimes and Vetinari take it as a price of doing business that all employees will steal small things from the workplace like leftover food or office supplies. ''Drumknott buys all his own paperclips.'' Vetinari believes a woman would have to dress up as a manila envelope to get his attention.

** Though there are some echoes of Christine in her character, Juliet has far more in common with [[Discworld/{{Thud}} Tawnee]], being impossibly beautiful, somewhat dim, very sweet-natured, and with a tendency to make heterosexual men fall over themselves and get too nervous to approach her. The main difference is that Juliet is better-developed; she has more HiddenDepths and is less innocent than the wide-eyed Tawnee.

** "Megapode" can be translated as "Bigfoot". Although the Megapode isn't [[BigfootSasquatchAndYeti that type of Bigfoot]], being described as bird-like, the idea that the wizards are hunting for Bigfoot is still an amusing one.
