* There are several points in ''Manga/DeathNote'' where fans often invoke this trope. There's when Light regains his memory and (re)turns evil; some people ignore that and everything that happened afterward, considering Light to have remained L's partner instead. Some ignore [[spoiler:what happened shortly afterward, L's death]]; some or accept the previous spoiler, but reject everything that occurred after it; some accept everything until the ending of the series, when [[spoiler:Light is killed]]. Complicating things further, the anime (slightly) adjusts the manga's ending. [[spoiler:Light still dies, but he dies]] with slightly more dignity, managing to escape but then [[spoiler:getting killed by Ryuk, who doesn't want to be bored while Light's in prison. In the manga, he has a FreakOut prior to his death]].

* ''Anime/YuGiOhTheDarkSideOfDimensions'' was based on the original manga and made by it's author, but once the movie was released some people were quick to disown it for a variety of reasons, including Jonouchi doing nothing of importance and wearing a dog suit like in the anime, Yugi's friends not contributing to the plot, Kaiba's character development being undone, several key plot points not being explained, the lack of a conclusive duel between Yugi and Kaiba, and retcons to Ryou Bakura's backstory that don't fit in with the manga ''or'' anime.

* ''Anime/YuGiOh5Ds'' was well received by fans of the franchise, especially those who have been sticking with it since at least the beginning of the new series. That is until episode 107 when the big bad of that arc revealed that he is secretly... a robot motorcycle centaur. Wait, what?
** Most fans were not fussed when 4Kids decided to omit the last season of ''Anime/YuGiOhGX''. It does have have unfortunate implications as far as Jaden's fate is concerned, but that's still better than having the fourth season and its unfortunate implications as far as the fate of the world is concerned.
** Some people disregard the third season of ''[=5D's=]'' in its entirety, citing filler, {{Invincible Hero}}es, and bad characterization. Others disregard the second season (or just the way it handled [[{{Chickification}} Aki]] and [[GodModeSue Crow]]), or ''[=5D's=]'' itself for [[MemeticMutation COD GAEMS AWN MOTERBYKZ]]. Then you have ''Anime/YuGiOhGX'' fans, who disregard the slow, silly, and badly-plotted fourth season, as above, the oppressively dark and FridgeLogic-filled third season, or the whole show again.
** Then you have fans of the original, who will tell you that some or all of the filler arcs never occurred (mainly due to changes to the manga lore or character derailment), will tell you that the dark and somewhat incomprehensible Millennium World arc never occurred (despite the latter being in the manga), and features a contingent that puts forth the theory that the entire franchise ended at the end of the old "Monster World" arc in the manga (the Season 0 part of the anime), which occurred right before the Duelist Kingdom arc began and the series became MerchandiseDriven.
*** Probably the sorest spot among the filler is Joey [[TheWorfEffect Worfing]] to largely-irrelevant ArcVillain Siegfried. Granted, Joey manages to impress Siegfried by being the first Duelist ever to stop his OneHitKill play, but the villain still manages to take the match back.
** The latest revelation resulted in what could be [[BaseBreaker the biggest explosion]] of ''Franchise/YuGiOh'' history. [[spoiler: The 'Zone=/=Yusei']] twist left fans reeling after weeks of foreshadowing to the theory being proven right, only to get completely stamped on and thrown out the window all of a sudden. [[BrokenBase The fans have been torn into three camps]] those who cannot accept this, those who can wholeheartedly and those who can accept it, but aren't best pleased. The former are coming up with new theories just to ignore the canon's explanation; [[spoiler: a scientist wanted to recreate himself as Yusei to give hope to everyone, including looking up Internet files that included Accel and Delta Accel Synchro already learned by Yusei; including Zone being forgotten loner Sly amongst others]]. It doesn't help that [[spoiler: the episode before finished with half of Zone's mask falling off, revealing Yusei's face]] which gave fans hope they'd both get decent CharacterDevelopment. Quite a few are on the lines of ignoring the duel completely and focusing on the finale.

fans of the original, who will tell you original ''Manga/YuGiOh'' manga prefer to think that some or all the ''Anime/YuiGiOh'' anime isn't canon due to filler arcs, Joey getting the shaft so Kaiba can be elevated in importance, Kaiba being more of an anti-hero than in the manga, Duke's entire introductory arc being changed, and general changes made to the characters, plot, and setting.

* Because of {{plot hole}}s and overall silliness, many ''Manga/DragonBall'' fans reject ''Anime/DragonballGT'' altogether, made easier due to the fact that it was not part of Toriyama's original manga; ironically ''GT'' has the least amount of plotholes period (although extremely glaring) and the overall silly behavior is very reminiscent of the first Dragon Ball series. And while Toriyama did help conceive ''GT'' in some small parts here and there, his more direct contributions to the the latest game Dragon Ball Online and the film Battle of the Gods have fans convinced that ''GT'' never happened while stating the former being canon (although it is written in a way that ''GT'' could have happened before the former and after the latter). It's not like [[AlternateTimeline Alternate Timelines]] don't exist, but that seems to be the case here. And fanon discontinuity in the ''Dragon Ball'' series seems to be going back and forth between whether or not it was in the original Manga or whether or not Akira Toriyama had major involvement in it.

** Anime/DragonBallSuper is considered the canon continuation of the manga, and it seems to merely regard ''GT'' as a "what-if?" story. It has introduced several elements that outright contradict what is shown in ''GT'' (such as different transformations for the protagonists and a different version of Hell, for starters). This, coupled with Toriyama's close involvement, pretty much makes ''GT'' a case of CanonDiscontinuity.

* Many fans decry the DistantFinale of ''Anime/DigimonAdventure02'' for giving most of them completely random careers some to CharacterDerailment levels For instance, Yamato/Matt -- with his love of music and a fledgling garage band well in the works -- dumps all that to become an ''astronaut''. Worse is Miyako/Yolei: outspoken and headstrong in the series proper, a HouseWife in the future. Fans of certain ships also disregard the finale for sinking their opinions (for instance Sora and Yamato/Matt end up together, which does not make fans who pair her with Taichi/Tai happy). The drama [=CDs=] and the Girls' Day special CD try to [[HandWave explain the changes in lifestyles away,]] to little avail. Even the upcoming ''Anime/DigimonAdventureTri'' six-part movies can't even fix the ending, so...

** Members of the fandom are more likely to ignore just ''Johto Journeys'', ''Johto League Champions'', and most of ''Master Quest'', skipping straight from the Orange Islands to either the end of Johto or to Hoenn, or just ignore everything after Kanto entirely. In fact, Kanto/Orange Islands Fans (and Pokeshippers) fed up with the long-running Pokemon series never ending or having any big dramatic shake-up beyond cast changes look to ''Pokemon2000'' as the grand finale. Amongst boxes ticked are Ash fulfilling a prophecy, working with the legendary birds, saving the whole world in the process (which would in a logical world, make him a Pokemon Master), and Misty more or less putting her foot down and vowing that Ash will "always have her".
** ''Battle Frontier'' also gets some of this from fans of the 4Kids dub.

* Several, if not most, fans were outraged at [[spoiler:the effective CharacterDerailment of Manaka and Toujo]] at the end of ''[[StrawberryOneHundredPercent Strawberry 100%]]'', when, after all the not-so-subtle hinting that [[spoiler:he and Toujo were a RedStringOfFate couple and she was the only one he was truly happy with, could relate to, etc., he]] goes and [[spoiler:picks Nishino out of pity or "she was there first" more than anything else, and she doesn't even put up a fight.]] Most like to imagine that, in the author's private gallery, the real ending exists in which he comes to his senses and chooses the right one at the end; the "official" one was published due to ExecutiveMeddling. These fans reject this turn of events hard because it ruins a comic that was otherwise a masterpiece.

* One of the few aspects of ''MagicalRecordLyricalNanohaForce'' that most English fans agree on is that it's a terrible story and didn't happen: The overall plot seems like an angry fan fiction with the arc becoming incredibly DarkerAndEdgier and BloodierAndGorier, as if it tries to neglect the old favorable magical girl and DefeatMeansFriendship roots; the villains are [[UnintentionallyUnsympathetic overpowered, hypocritic, and unsympathetic]]; the previous heroines, especially the fan favorites, get rapidly hit with a WorfEffect; the new protagonists are not as interesting as the original ones; last but not least, ''Force'' ends up a rare case of DeconstructorFleet done wrong and not very well appreciated.
