** Early in the RPG, Atton Rand only had three characters; Zenna, Axle, and Elizabeth. However, Axle's role was dropped in favor of focusing on characters that were introduced by Atton Rand himselfalthough most of Atton Rand's cast consists of CaptainErsatz and Expy characters rather than the LEGO Company after his return from hiatus, and Zenna was critically wounded in the Adventurers' Island campaign, leaving Elizabeth as the only one of them to still be present in At War's End.

* RussianRoulette: Anubis tries to play Russian roulette in Time and Place, but is interrupted by Fate before he can pull the trigger. It is later revealed that, if Fate hadn't interrupted, Anubis would have lost the game.

** This happened a lot in the early days of the RPG, with characters getting into potentially lethal scenarios and only taking on minor damage.
*** It was averted a lot more by the end. Rex didn't get away from LEGO Island without partial paralysis, Zenna took on severe wounds on Adventurer's Island that left her in a coma, Hotwire was forced to wound his leg to the point of amputation being necessary after getting a Maelstrom infection, Hertz and Raider both broke arms that never fully healed, and so on. Then of course came the death toll...]

* TheManBehindTheMonsters: Dr. Rex.
** TheManBehindTheMan:
Rex, the leader of XERRD and creator of the Mutant Dinos.

* MassOhCrap: Dino Attack Team when they saw the size of the Mutant Dino army at the dawn of the FinalBattle.
* MassTeleportation: As a T-1 Typhoon approached the LEGO Island Laboratory, the XERRD scientists inside began endlessly teleporting Mutant Lizards aboard the helicopter. Dino Attack Team also began a MassTeleportation of evacuees to Antarctica during the FinalBattle.

* MeaningfulName:
** General Evil, Little Bot, Rex, Trouble, Stealth, Dr. Rex, Greybeard, Dr. Wolf, Pilot, Gunner, Dr. Cyborg, Colonel, Scratch, Hacker, the entire Second Headquarters Squad... the list goes on.
** Dust's surname, Thutmuse, is a reference to his royal heritage.
** Anyone who'd seen Creator/JohnCarpenter's Film/TheThing1982 should have quickly realized the significance of the names Clark and Palmer.
** Many of Trigger's former colleagues had names referring to crime films. Two of them (Deniro and Scorsese) were named after famous people associated with them, while another three were named after specific characters. The one exception to this rule is Montoya, who was named after Daniel Baldwin's character in Film/JohnCarpentersVampires, which was nothing more than a shout-out to the inspiration behind Trigger/Schiess, as the characters look similar but are otherwise completely different.
** Interestingly, Montoya's name has an unintentional double meaning. While it was originally intended as a shout-out to Trigger's inspiration, he also shares the name with Inigo Montoya, a swordsman from Film/ThePrincessBride. Much like how Inigo was determined to find the man who killed his father, Montoya is determined to find revenge on the woman who killed his partners.
** The name Amanda means "having to be loved," "deserving to be loved," or "worthy of love." When you consider Amanda Claw's role in Dino Attack RPG, you realize that there could not have possibly been a more fitting name.
* MeaningfulRename:
** When Agent X renamed himself Xeke.
** From George Ogel to General Evil to simply General, a rename for this character means a significant change in personality.

* MedievalEuropeanFantasy: Castle Cove.

* MediumAwareness: Although Trigger slightly touched upon this when he Leaned on the Fourth Wall, Aster Oid and are the only ones who figured out that they were actually in a text-based roleplay game (and, before that, a polygon-based videogame in Aster's case).

* MenAreTheExpendableGender: Most, if not all, Red Shirts are male. Somewhat justified, as there is a greater ratio of men to women in the team.
** Interestingly, at one point during the Adventurers' Island arc, a female RedShirt was mentioned, but she was only wounded and never explicitly said to have died.

team. Interestingly, at one point during the Adventurers' Island arc, a female RedShirt was mentioned, but she was only wounded and never explicitly said to have died.

** RedHerringMole: [=PeabodySam=] has numerous Red Herring Moles planted in Dino Attack Team. For a list of them, see the Wild Mass Guessing page.
*** There was also Clark, who Palmer fooled people into thinking was infected by the Maelstrom.
** ReverseMole: Dino Attack Team had a ReverseMole planted in XERRD:

** FutureMeScaresMe: Lord Sam Sinister made it known that he was afraid of Finister. Even Evil Ogel felt uncomfortable around Fogel.

to:

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone:
** FutureMeScaresMe: Lord Sam Sinister made it known Rex had one of these moments after realizing that he was afraid beat a Mutant Lizard to death with a metal pipe.
** Garry got this twice, though he didn't use those exact words. First when he visited Jenny shortly after torturing her in cold blood, and then a second time when he unwittingly botched the assault on the real Maelstrom temple by bringing a power-hungry Stromling inside.
** Oswald has this as a part
of Finister. Even Evil Ogel felt uncomfortable around Fogel.his VillainousBSOD.

* MysteriousMiddleInitial: Ronald E. Army, Tex S. Holdem, and Grisbarba L. Pirata.

* NamingConventions: Conventionally.
** AppropriatedAppellation:
*** The "zeen" in "Frozeen" came from a kindergarten teacher's botched attempt at reading Zachary Abody's handwriting.
*** The origin of Amanda's nickname "Amanda Claw".
*** The name "Fogel" was originally coined as an insult, but Fogel decided to bear it with pride.
** CaptainColorbeard: Greybeard, Goldbeard, and Redbeard.
** CodeName: Many Dino Attack agents signed up under codenames.
** EmbarrassingNickname: Ronald E. Army, whose nickname "Soldier" is actually an insult to his status as a sergeant.
** FirstNameBasis: Kate, David, Zachary, Jenny, and Rex.
** FullNameBasis:
*** Sam Throramebi, Sam Sinister, and Sam Race are victims of this trope for obvious reasons.
*** When referred to by his real name, Andrew Jackson, Pyro falls under this trope in order to avoid confusing players, what with two other Dino Attack agents named Andrew and Barry Jackson.
** GenderBlenderName: While multiple characters are named "Sam" (all being male), Andrea's spouse Sam Orange's gender was originally left ambiguous in part due to HideYourLesbians. Ultimately, "Sam" was revealed to be short for "Samantha".
** GivenNameReveal: Greybeard's real name was left unknown until illusion!Beatrice referred to him as "Grisbarba" in the Maelstrom Temple.
** IHaveManyNames: A major character trait of Trigger, although we've only seen two of his names in-universe (the other name being "Schiess").
** IronicName: An unintentional example, but one of Trigger's old partners who was killed by Silencia Venomosa was named "Verbal". While it was never actually stated if this was his last name, a nickname, or just an alias, it's interestingly ironic on two fronts. First, the guy didn't talk much. Second, it's funny when you consider his name was meant as a shout-out to Verbal Kint, Creator/KevinSpacey's character in the 1995 film Film/TheUsualSuspects. In that film, Verbal Kint was the only survivor of a job organized by a shady criminal mastermind, with most of the plot centered around him telling the story of how it all happened.
** IronicNickname: Soldier, who is a sergeant, and Shotgun, who is a sniper.
** AKindOfOne: It's unclear whether the egg came before the chicken, but what is known is that the species names for the three unused Quasifigus species (Quasifigus tyrannus, Quasifigus velosis, and Quasifigus pterisa) also happen to be the names of the three specimens created by Wallace Bishop (Tyrannus, Velosis, and Pterisa, respectively).
** LastNameBasis:
*** Most of the medics as well as the majority of XERRD's scientists.
*** Also applies to Dino Attack agents Remous, Wright, and Shiller.
** LetXBeTheUnknown: Agent X.
** MeaningfulName:
*** General Evil, Little Bot, Rex, Trouble, Stealth, Dr. Rex, Greybeard, Dr. Wolf, Pilot, Gunner, Dr. Cyborg, Colonel, Scratch, Hacker, the entire Second Headquarters Squad... the list goes on.

** MeaningfulRename:
*** When Agent X renamed himself Xeke.
*** From George Ogel to General Evil to simply General, a rename for this character means a significant change in personality.
*** ShedTheFamilyName: Blaire did this after falling out with his parents and running away from home.
** MysteriousMiddleInitial: Ronald E. Army, Tex S. Holdem, and Grisbarba L. Pirata.
** NamedByDemocracy: Soldier and Medic.
** NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: Many examples of this trope, most notably including RLeeErmey Ronald E. Army and Clint Wayne.
** NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Anyone familiar with the namesakes of Dr. Breen and Dr. Glados would know to stay far away from them.
*** NamesToRunAwayFrom/Adjectives: Evil Ogel, , and Blaire Darkling.
*** NamesToRunAwayFrom/AncientDeadLanguages: Zachary's last name, Virchaus, is an amalgamation of "Virtus Chaos", which roughly means "Power of Chaos" in Latin.
*** NamesToRunAwayFrom/Animal: Dragon and Brickspider Bot v1.0.
*** NamesToRunAwayFrom/BodyPart: "Robo-Limb" (also known as the Frickster).
*** NamesToRunAwayFrom/Conquerors: Ivan Tzenovich, Napoleon XIV Mental Institution, and Mr. Bonaparte.
*** NamesToRunAwayFrom/ForeignLanguageNames: Schattenberg ("schatten" is German for "shadow"), Silencia Venomosa ("silencio" and "venomosa" are Spanish for "silent" and "venom"), Gahiji Thutmose ("Gahiji" is Arabic for "hunter"), Doctor Dunkelheit ("dunkelheit" is German for "darkness") Dino Attack Agent Verrat ("verrat" is German for "betrayal"), Tod Fabello ("tod" is German for "death"), Grisbarba L. Pirata ("barba gris" and "pirata" are Spanish for "gray beard" and "pirate"), Edward Korrupte ("korrupte" is Danish for "corrupt"), and Uærlig Sindstorme ("uærlig" and "sind storme" are Danish for "dishonest" and "mind storms").
*** NameOfCain: Canis "Cane" Schattenberg
*** NamesToRunAwayFrom/NotoriousKillers: Bricassius.
*** NamesToRunAwayFrom/ReligiousNames: Bonus points goes to the Mutant T-Rex named Ragnorok, since "Ragnarok" of Norse Mythology essentially refers to the apocalypse.
*** NamesToRunAwayFrom/Titles: Doctor Bishop (covering both the Bishop and Doctor categories), "Boss" (also known as Fogel), Doctor Breen, Doctor Provencal, Doctor Glados, Doctor Gonepus, Doctor Strangebrick, Sergeant Army, Colonel Quartich, and .
*** NamesToRunAwayFrom/Weapons: "Hooks" and "Dark Sword" (also known as Finister and Fladek).
*** NamesToRunAwayFrom/XtremeKoolLetterz: XERRD and Enox Phorm.
*** NamesToRunAwayFrom/MixAndMatch: Doctor Wolf (Animal and Titles), Doctor Ronald "Rex" Alexander (Animal, Conquerors, and Titles), Doctor Dunkelheit (Foreign Language Names and Titles), Doctor Zed Provhezor (Titles and Xtreme Kool Letterz), General Evil (Adjectives and Titles), and Lord Sam Sinister von Barron (Adjectives and Titles).
** NoNeedForNames: Many characters never have their names revealed.
*** EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep:
*** TheBartender in Greybeard's flashback/dream sequence.
*** Helmie was simply referred to as "the barge helmsman" during the beginning of the Goo Caverns story arc.
*** OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: The majority of Dino Attack Agents are only ever referred to by their codenames. Most of the time, we never find out their real names.
*** A major part of Trigger's character is that he never gives his real name. Every job he's done he's operated under a codename or pseudonym.
** NonIndicativeName:
*** Barry Jackson's codename is "Shotgun" even though he's a professional sniper and his main weapon is a sniper rifle. This is largely due to the codename "sniper" already being taken by Brixton Hale.
*** There's also Clint Wayne, who draws a lot out of inspiration from Creator/ClintEastwood, but almost nothing out of Creator/JohnWayne.
** OnlyKnownByInitials: Formerly A.J. Orange (A.J. was eventually revealed to be short for Andrea Jackson).
** OnlyOneName: Dr. Strangebrick, Andrew, and Maria. Formerly Katerina "Kat" Schattenberg, Zachary Virchaus, Jenny Strangebrick, and Rex Alexander.
** OneSteveLimit: Zig-Zagged. There have been at least two agents operating under the codenames of Pilot and Alpha, and at least three agents with the codenames Hunter and Snake. Played straight when Barry Jackson received the codename Shotgun because Sniper was already in use.
** PunnyName: Pick any member of Second Headquarters Squad. His real name is a pun. Bart Helmutson, Cameron O'Cozy, Gonnerman, Mailstorm, and Bartholomew Enderson are a few other examples of pun-based names.
** RealNameAsAnAlias: Played with in a case of LeaningOnTheFourthWall. Rex and Zero both adopted variants of their players' usernames ("Peasam" from [=PeabodySam=] and "Norik" from Norik the Silver Toa) while trying to hide their identities from Phantom.
** RedBaron: Rex, who earned his name by showing the bravery of a T-Rex.
** RobotNames: [=A5T3R=]-01D falls under the category of "A similar string of numbers or letters which resembles a word or name, either as written, or when read aloud" since it reads aloud to "asteroid". Purple-Headed Frozeen's Model of a Brickster-Bot (PBB) and Brickspider Bot fall under the category of "Something-tron or Something-bot".
** ShoutOutThemeNaming: Many of Atton Rand's characters were inspired by characters from other works. Their names are often a combination of the first name of the actor who played the character and the last name of the person. For example:
*** Alan Pierce- Alan Alda, who played Benjamin Franklin Pierce in Film/Mash ("Donald" was considered as a middle name, which would have referred to Donald Sutherland, who plays him in the movie).
*** Giovanni Wade- Giovanni Ribisi, who played Irwin Wade in Film/SavingPrivateRyan.
*** Gates Crusher- Gates McFadden, who played Dr. Beverly Crusher on Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration.
*** Noomi Shaw- Noomi Rapace, who played Elizabeth Shaw in Film/Prometheus.
*** Barry Jackson- Barry Pepper, who played Private Daniel Jackson in Film/SavingPrivateRyan.
*** Kurt [=MacReady=]- Kurt Russel, who played R.J. [=MacReady=] in Film/TheThing1982.
*** Inverted with Garry Moffat. The last name was taken from actor Donald Moffat who played Garry in Film/TheThing1982. This was because the film never stated the last name of the character.
** SpellMyNameWithAThe: The Brickster, The Frickster, The Phantom, and .
** SpellMyNameWithAnS: Paulie's surname swings back-and-forth between Gonapus and Gonepus.
** StevenUlyssesPerhero:
*** With a name like Grisbarba L. Pirata, who would have guessed that he one day would have become a pirate with a gray beard?
*** Although it was not his real name, Ronald Alexander loved going by his nickname Dr. Rex. Who would have ever guessed that he would not only be a scientist, but also a T-Rex one day?
** StockForeignName: AsLongAsItSoundsForeign.
*** German: Dietrich Luzwheit.
*** Russian: Ivan Tzenovich.
** ThemeNaming:
*** Most Dino Attack agents' codenames are based upon dinosaurs, including Reptile, Tail, and Rev Raptor.
*** Rotor and Cabin are both helicopter pilots whose names refer to parts of a helicopter.
*** All of Enter Fishstick's characters have names that begin with the letter Z.
** Tuckerization:
*** Kara Wise seems to be based on and named after a friend of avmatoran.
*** While his name was created in a name generator, Kareem Nazareno's initials were intended to reference [=KillerNinja7=], the former username of a friend of Brikman [=McStudz=]'s who created Nazareno's minifig. Desiree and Kayla Virchaus are named after two of Brikman [=McStudz=]'s friends and James Virchaus is named after Brikman's father.
*** Amanda Claw and Shannon Grimton are named after two of [=PeabodySam=]'s friends. Zachary Abody is named after [=PeabodySam=]'s friend [=Stormcrow926=], while Faith Abody is named after [=PeabodySam=]'s cousin flamingchibi.
** TwoFirstNames: The Alexanders (Ronald, Catherine, Rex, and Amanda), Joe Harry, and Athena Chase.
** TheVonTropeFamily: An interesting variation with Lord Sam Sinister von Barron. Dino Attack RPG interprets the "von" of "Baron von Barron" as the German word for "of", making "Baron von Barron" a title meaning "Baron of Barron" rather than a Baron with the surname Barron; this is because Lord Sinister's surname seems to be truly Sinister, since his sister is named Alexis Sinister. This lead to the creation of Barron, a FictionalCountry seemingly populated by Herr Doktors with stereotypical East European Funetik Aksents (a nod to the Baron's accent in VideoGame/LEGORacers).
** WhoNamesTheirKidDude: Gates Crusher seems like a pretty strange name, made all the more bizarre by the fact that her first name was taken from a real-life actress.

*** Some of Chompy's dialogue in Dino Attack RPG suggests that he suffered some emotional scarring as a result of Dr. Kilroy giving him to Frozeen in Roleplay/AlphaTeamMissionDeepFreezeRPG. Even though Dr. Kilroy did it out of gratitude to Alpha Team and Frozeen was a NiceGuy who always cared for Chompy, being taken from his family at such a young age without any say in the matter was probably not the best thing for Chompy.
*** Roger Remous was literally introduced for no purpose other than to introduce Amanda Claw and then get killed off without much fanfare. As of the LEGO Island story arc, his death has taken a far more serious toll on Amanda, and Love and War made his disappearance the driving force of Rex and Amanda's motivations in the second half of the story.
*** The Madness of Agent Zero explains BZP Noob #30000's now non-canon Toys/BIONICLE-related material as Zero slowly suffering a mental breakdown. He nearly gets killed by a Mutant T-Rex when he thinks that he has transformed into a Toa but is really just wearing a pair of night -vision goggles.
*** In Dino Attack RPG and Merciful Escape, Rex's LaserGuidedAmnesia was treated as little more than a plot point. In First Assignment, we learn for the first time just what effect an erased memory had on Rex's mental state:
--->Having nothing, not even memories to look back upon, left him with a terrible, overwhelming emptiness that often kept him awake at night. He often felt as though he was peering into a black hole, fearing that what little remained of him would soon be dragged into the darkness as well. At times, he could feel that it was only his sense of purpose in joining Dino Attack Team that kept him grounded in reality.

*** Rex also recognized Scout and Sniper from the LEGO Island mission, even though they were not introduced until after the mission ended.
*** Barry Jackson's biography mentions that he was present at the battle against the skeleton mummy, although that occured before he was introduced. Justified, in that there were a number of anonymous agents present, so he could very well have been among them.
*** Frozeen instantly recognized Shannon Grimton when she was first introduced. This was Lampshaded by Greybeard, who referred to this trope by name when he was confused about how Frozeen and Shannon knew each other.
*** Zelda Frodongan and Scratch are described as having participated in the Goo Caverns, LEGO Island, and Antarctica missions despite Brikman [=McStudz=] not joining the RPG until the Adventurers' Island story arc.

** It can even happen in just one post. Many players in the RPG have a number of [=NPCs=] besides their main character, and a single post will often shift between the perspectives of different characters. For instance, Atton Rand's post frequently switched between the point of view of Rotor, Pierce, Cabin, Kate, and occasionally Clint Wayne.
