A science-fiction/technohorror story set in the 2180's, existing mostly as a vague collection of ideas on Tropers/LatwPIAT's harddrive. It details a Dystopia dystopian, semi-PostApocalyptic future of the Solar System, which has become a secret battleground for alien and transhuman forces. Terrorist cells and AIIsACrapshot rogue Netwar AIs make horrific attacks on closed cities, while biological and nanocyber-biological plagues threaten to subvert humanity from within. Whispers on the 'net speak of secret societies and hidden conspiracies lurking behind every shadow, and multinational corporations and dynastic families secure their own power through increasingly suspect means.

@/LatwPIAT: Everything's very... vaporous at this point. I have some sketches for a larger plot, but at this moment it seems I'll mostly just be plotting out shorter plot-lines and stand-alone chapters against the larger setting. Once I figure out the details of the larger setting...

Noyivanne

Noyivanne is a cold and pragmatic ex-soldier working for a private security company that acts as a paramilitary force. She's an apex, the central commander and coordinator of a network of robot shells. Her body-identity has changed as a result, and Noyivanne considers each robot in the network an integral part of herself - although she frequently modifies the load-out and active components of the network to suit her needs. Despite this, Noyivanne has a special preference for a special kind of shell; a spherical, flight-capable combat-robot, which she treats as an extension of her own body, much to the chagrin of those forced to interact with an expression-less flying death-bot.

* AttackDrone: Except for a few sensor drones, the vast majority of Noyivanne's robot-bodies are AttackDrones. She has Preadator/Reaper-like and helicopter-form Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, tracked Unmanned Ground Vehicles with mounted weapons, and even robotic hovercraft, boats and submarines that carry or mount appropriate weapons.
* CombatTentacles: Mounted on the spherical death-robot.
%comment%* TheEnneagram: Resembles a type 3 (Achiever) with a slight 4 (individualist) wing. Self-preserving.
%comment%* MyersBriggs: ENTJ. So This Troper(R) thinks.
* One-Woman Army: There is, of course, the question of whether Noyivanne is actually controlling her robot-bodies or merely just commanding them, but in a serious firefight, she can lay down as much firepower as a platoon of soldiers all by herself.
* RemoteBody: The more Noyivanne uses a robot body, the more likely she is to use them as remote bodies, to the point where she doesn't, subconsciously, distinguish between her biological shell and her robotic shells. This occasionally causes problems when she, for example, attempts to enter public buildings or flirt with people with a flying spherical death-robot with mounted machine-guns and missile launchers.
* RobotMaster: Noyivanne designs, maintains and coordinates all the robots in her robot-network.
* SurveillanceDrone: Several of her shells are flying camera/sensor drones, designed after the Sikorsky Cypher UAV. She sometimes also uses a Global Hawk-alike or MQ-8 Fire Scout-derived designs for greater area-coverage.
* WetwareCPU: Noyivanne is essentially this to a non-sentient networked AI-entity.

Mel "Eukie" Euklid

A quiet, "emotionless" and dryly sarcastic young girl who studies computer science at university-level. She specializes in networks, information-security systems and cryptography. Despite her social awkwardness, she spends a large amount of time playing online computer games, with a preference for MMORPG MMORPGs and First Person Shooters, especially space-flight-based ones, and has a small but noticeable online presence. In addition to her artificially high neural plasticity, she has neural implants that allow her to create low-level copies of her own mind, run them on specialized hardware in her brain and reintegrate the forks into her neural architecture at runtime; this allows her to multitask very effectively.

* HeadphonesEqualIsolation
* EmotionlessGirl: Considering her main Cryptonomicon inspirations, it should be no surprise that her personality is less than lukewarm.
%comment%* TheEnneagram: Appears to resemble a type 5 (investigator), with an emphasis on self-preservation.
* HeroicRROD: Euklid is a recreational user of Accelerated Virtual Reality, which is a simulated VR-world where subjective time progresses at a faster pace. To achieve the highest degree of acceleration, special neural hardware must be connected to stationary cooling-systems and high-speed servers. If these systems were not in place, the subject's mind would destructively overheat. Because she needs to stay mobile, Euklid tries to build a portable cooling-system, but it's less than perfect and her brain starts to fall apart faster than her medical micro/nano-machines can rebuild it.
* MindHive: Effectively, Euklid's brain is a host to several short-term, limited versions of her own mind.
%comment%* MyersBriggs: INTP.
* RapidFireTyping: To increase her typing-speed, Euklid has set the and keys of her keyboard to toggle each half of the alphanumerical keys to mirror the other; this allows Mel to type uninterrupted with one hand on one side of the keyboard, or type twice as fast by using both hands.
* ScaryShinyGlasses: Large rectangular glasses with a thick frame. They have an electrochromic coating and a built-in transparent screen, allowing them to both shut out the outside world and function as a head-mounted AR display, or even a VR interface.
* Ptitlex0gguaox Shouldn't You Be In School Right Now?: Euklid is taking a year "abroad" at a university that offers online VR classrooms, so she can devote a short-term fork to attend classes while she's working elsewhere.
* TechnoWizard: Euklid's accomplishments include stealing encryption-keys out of people's RAM using only a depleted aerosol can and laptop, from a locked computer, while the target was in the toilet.
* VirtualTrainingSimulation: Euklid studies at universities where online VR attendance is acceptable. She also owns a server with VR-capabilities that she uses when necessary.
* YoungEntrepreneur: Euklid gets paid on an ad hoc or provisional basis to work as a network admin and/or moderator for online [=RPGs=]. Additionally, she's trying to create a software company to create a safe form of hardware-based encryption based on measuring the overall resistance in a circuit with two nodes of variable resistance to create identical one-note pads at two spatially separate locations.[[hottip:1:The problem is that such a system is very slow; Laszlo Kish, who proposed the system, notes that it's limited to 2,000,000 meter-Hz, which means that a distance of a kilometre has a speed of 2kbps, which Bruce Schneier notes is slower than 1985 dialup. And even then, it's still vulnerable to Man-in-the-Middle attacks. Euklid suggests working around this by weaving the cable into optical fibres in a pressurized tube, only to be informed by wiser minds that if she's doing that, there's no need to use a fancy system for encryption; one could just distribute the one-note pad via the secure channel.]]

Jane Forum:

"Jane Forum" is a pseudonym-cum-fake-identity used by a person with multiple personalities co-existing in their head. "Jane"'s neural architecture has been adapted to flawlessly run four personalities in parallel, with acute awareness of the presence of the other personalities as well as the ability to flawlessly correspond with each other. As a dividual, Jane is a skilled scientist, cryptographer and linguist with extensive knowledge in many fields and and a wide range of technical skills, including intelligence analysis, wargaming, medicine and vehicle repair. Jane's personalities include Naomi, a sardonic, asocial and misanthropic persona who tends to deliver gnomish and biting statements, Hayley, a sadistic and manipulative persona with a penchant for axes, Susan Andrew, a quiet and idealistic persona who doesn't appear very much, and Ellen, a determined and pragmatic persona that acts as a leader for the group.

* AnAxeToGrind: Hayley's favourite weapons are axes.
* BadassCrew: Working together, Ellen, Naomi, Hayley and Susan are a four-person think-tank operating with an adaptability and speed that most people can only dream of, sharing thoughts and analyzing data as a collective greater than the sum of its parts.
* BloodKnight:
* FourPhilosophyEnsemble
** Cynic: Naomi
** Optimist: Hayley (to some degree)
** Realist: Ellen, Susan Andrew
** Apathetic: Hayley
* HannibalLecture: Hayley is manipulative and persuasive, which she used to demoralize and trap her enemies. Ellen, meanwhile, occasionally has to resort to these to keep Hayley from interfering.
* TheKirk: Ellen has to mediate between the cynical and misanthropic Naomi, Hayley's sadistic tendencies and Andrew's hardline nature.
* KnifeNut: Hayley also likes knives.
* PsychoForHire: Although Hayley is incapable of leaving the others and they don't hire on as mercenaries in the first place, Hayley does everything she can to maximized violence and mayhem for the sheer fun of it. And sometimes her... proficiency with melee-weapons is useful to the rest of the group.
* NotSoDifferent: spoiler:Susan Andrew is exactly like Hayley. Both are crazed, bloodlusting mass-murderers who take joy from cause as much havoc and mayhem as possible. Susan Andrew is just more subtle and cautious than Hayley, favouring long-term planning and secrecy.
