* Makoto Yosue of ''WebComic/RedString'' morphed into this over time. The author originally admitted she put him in to act as an obstacle and antagonist to the original OfficialCouple, but later interviews included statements such as him being her favorite character and getting very defensive on some occasions when he received criticism. He started getting a ridiculous amount of CharacterFocus for a supporting cast member (which on the official web site, he still listed under this category) and time spent on his supposedly horrible life (consisting of simply being sad a girl dumped him once) while other plots more important to the overall flow were getting ignored. As the series moved into its finale, suddenly everyone was talking him up, including characters that either never met him, or had met him when he was in his previous "jerk" characterization and had no reason to suddenly think he was a good person. For example, Miharu's parents constantly talk about what an outstanding worker he is, but he's never seen doing anything more than being a waiter, something Miharu and Karen do without thanks or praise for the entire comic. The fanbase pretty much turned on him when his characterization fell apart and he became controlling over Miharu to the point of screaming at her in public for continuing to associate with her old boyfriend (a relationship Makoto never once respected when it was in progress) and stalking her old boyfriend at work and insulting his suicide attempt only weeks after he got out of the hospital.

* Makoto Yosue of ''WebComic/RedString'' morphed into this over time. The author originally admitted she put him in Originally introduced to the series to act as an obstacle and antagonist to the original OfficialCouple, but later interviews included statements such as OfficialCouple of Miharu and Kazuo, the author suddenly fell for him being and even declared him her favorite character and getting very defensive on some occasions when he received criticism. He started getting a ridiculous amount of CharacterFocus for a supporting cast member (which on the official web site, he still listed under this category) and time spent on his supposedly horrible life (consisting of simply being sad a girl dumped him once) in an interview while other plots more important to the overall flow were getting ignored. As the series moved into its finale, was running. In his initial storylines he was shown to be a controlling jerk who doesn’t respect Miharu or her existing relationship with Kazuo, who is her fiance. However as he began to [[SpotlightStealingSquad overtake the main cast in importance,]] his storyline shifted to how perfect and wonderful he was and explained away that his “jerk” persona was the fault of a mean girl dumping him because he was “too kind and sensitive to her needs” so he was merely ''pretending'' to be a jerk to impress Miharu. We’re also told his affluent parents aren’t very loving but when we see them on panel they’re extremely attentive to him and in response to said dumping give him ''a restaurant'' because he wants to be a restaurant owner some day and even give him the marriage arrangement with Karen because he’s so upset about his dumping. The CharacterShilling starts in earnest when the series suddenly everyone was talking decides to switch the male lead to Makoto, creating a scenario in which Makoto gets to date Miharu simply because he wants to and Kazuo began to be derailed as too broken by the physical and mental abuse of his father to maintain his relationship with Miharu to ensure that Makoto looked better by comparison. Characters who have never even met Makoto sing his praises, people liked Karen who were screwed over by him up, including suddenly like him and declare him a “flirty goofball,” characters that either never met him, or had met who’ve seen him only as in his “jerk” persona talk about how much he has changed despite Makoto still acting exactly the same as when he was in his previous "jerk" characterization introduced, and had no reason to suddenly think he was a good person. For example, Miharu's Miharu’s parents constantly talk about what an outstanding worker he is, but he's never seen praise his skill and work ethic as extraordinary and unusual at the restaurant his family has bought for him despite the fact he’s only shown doing anything more than being the same job as a waiter, something server that Miharu and Karen do have done most of their lives without any thanks or praise for praise. The moment the entire comic. The fanbase pretty much fan base completely turned on him Makoto came when his characterization fell apart and he became controlling over during an outing with Miharu to the point of screaming and Kazuo, who she is now friends with again, drags Miharu away and yells at her in public for continuing to associate not respecting him. This ends with her old boyfriend (a relationship Miharu, who up to this point has been portrayed as strong willed, independent, and very defensive of aggressive behavior, simply agrees that he’s right and meekly apologizes to him. The readers pointed out that Makoto never once respected was no better now than he was when it he was actively an antagonist. At this the author became very defensive of complaints from readers about Makoto’s depiction in progress) and stalking the series. As the story came to its rushed conclusion her old boyfriend at work and insulting his suicide attempt only weeks response to these complaints was to have him dress down Kazuo after ''stalking him and harassing him at his job'' and portraying Kazuo’s [[StrawmanHasAPoint accurate criticism that Makoto simply gets everything handed to him]] as being a cruel and unwarranted insult. The series endgame completely derails Kazuo into a creepy weirdo just to make Makoto’s actually controlling behavior look better by comparison and completely removes all of Miharu’s agency just to make sure he got out of gets the hospital.endgame marriage and dream job he’s wanted since he was introduced without anything actually serving as an obstacle to be overcome.

About minor characters getting unfair favoritism. Main characters are exempt.

* ''Webcomic/LeastICouldDo'': A large part of the problem with Rayne's character is this: he will act like a selfish brat for the first 90% of any given storyline, edging about as close as he can get to the moment when any form of sympathy for the character is destroyed. Then, about three to five strips before the end, he'll have a PetTheDog moment that makes the other characters forget or forgive all the rude/offensive/destructive/etc. things he did before. The problem, of course, is that the readers aren't inclined to let the occasional good deed make up for all the crap one has to go through to get to it.
** This is possibly best highlighted in a strip that attempted an AuthorsSavingThrow on some of Rayne's earlier ComedicSociopathy, instead reframing all of it as noble pursuits that actually prove what an exemplary and wonderful human being he is. Did you have a problem with Rayne keeping a stereotypical Mexican orphan in the trunk of his car? Well, turns out you're a bad person, because Rayne's that kid's legal guardian and took him in off the street! ([[InsaneTrollLogic Which totally makes it okay to let him keep wearing rags and live in the trunk of a car]].)

Misuse. Susan may be a Creators Favorite, but she's not overemphasised or hated by the fanbase.

* A somewhat ironic example exists in the form of ''Webcomic/ElGoonishShive'''s Susan Pompoms. Despite having started out as a StrawFeminist, she quickly became author Dan Shive's favorite character, to the point that [[OldShame he cringes when looking at how he used to write her.]]

* Claire of ''WebComic/QuestionableContent'' is starting to draw accusations of this from the comic's fans. She's not a bad character in and of herself, but once she and Marten hooked up the [[TastesLikeDiabetes Perfect Sweetness]] of their relationship started to grate. Not helping matters was Marten suddenly developing the ability to glare relentless and omni-offensive robot-pervert Pintsize into silence when the latter started to make Claire the target of one of his comments, and Marten laughing hysterically for apparently hours following a rather lame pun on Claire's part.

* Xanthe Justice from ''Webcomic/{{Sinfest}}'' (aka "[[FanNickname Trike Girl]]"). She hit this trope by being the in-universe catalyst for a divisive ReTool, plus an unhealthy dose of WriterOnBoard. For nearly a year, she was riding around talking about the "Sisterhood" taking down the "Patriarchy," trying to recruit female characters and talking down male characters. She remains in MarySue territory most of the time. For example, she gave a rather physical GetAHoldOfYourselfMan to the ''hand of God''.

Had to expound upon one of the most egregious cases of Creator's Pet in recent webcomic history.

** Universe 16 Son Bra. Being the daughter of Vegetto, the most powerful character in the original ''Dragon Ball'', you'd think we wouldn't even need [[CharacterShilling Goku from the manga universe gushing on how powerful she is]] and having two specials focusing on just how awesome she is. There's also the whole [[KarmaHoudini disobeying her father's order not to kill her opponent and getting out of it with not even a mild admonition]] on top of being an insufferable SmugSuper who mocks anyone weaker than her. Even then, she had her fans...until the King Cold fight where she went from a BaseBreakingCharacter to TheScrappy. [[spoiler: Then "King Cold" turned out to be Captain Ginyu in Cold's body, who used his Body Change technique to jump to Bra's body. Readers cheered, hoping that even if it was undone, the experience might be humbling for Bra...only for Vegetto to catch on ''immediately'' and force Ginyu to change back, leaving the entire thing a ShaggyDogStory.]]
