* BleachedUnderwear: When Gainax first branched into video game development, their first title was Cybernetic Hi-School, a quiz game with enough sexual content to get banned in one Japanese prefecture. They also developed a strip mahjong game based on their own Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion.

However, Gainax is not what it used to be. Most, if not all of their best animators have moved on to other studios like Creator/StudioTrigger and Creator/StudioKhara. Others have left the studio to do work for themselves. Gainax has since switched to doing manga and light novel adaptations, as well as anime shorts.

* PlayingAgainstType: Out of all the Japanese animation studios available to adapt the Manga/HanamaruKindergarten manga into a TV show, the choice of Gainax comes as something of a surprise. Then again, does Gainax even have a type? Even considering their most popular creations, it's very hard to find an overarching theme. Blurring the line between Deconstruction and Reconstruction, somewhat thoughtful explorations of human nature, and tons and tons of Gainaxing big breasted women running, really tons of sexual humor in general. The fact that Gainax would adapt Manga/HanamaruKindergarten is itself Gainaxian. The overarching theme of Gainax is Nothing makes sense.
