* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: One of the nicest, most innocent characters on the show.

** JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: In the episode "That's A Wrap!". He makes Flapjack do all the candy wrap searching, saying he tried to find some. He takes all the credit and eats all the candy that they were supposed to share together all for himself. After Flapjack finds the final piece, the X piece, he betrayed his friendship with Flapjack for 100 pieces of Candy and only went back to him not because of Flapjack but because he didn't want Peppermint Larry to find Candy Island.

* {{Hypocrite}}: Bubbie pretty much lays down the law in her home and tries to raise Flapjack as a respectable person, but she rarely follows any of the advice she actually gives him herself. Advice that includes critising gossiping, spying on others and lying, all of which are part of the life in Stormalong.

* MamaBear: Her maternal feelings are so strong that make her maternal outrages terrifying for the one who caused them by threatening her baby. Even if it a whale double her size.

* OnlySaneMan: Definitely the most sensible of the three by a large margin. in real life she would come across as more naive and immature than average but by Stormalong's standards she is this even compared to almost all the other characters in the show.

* CheerfulChild: Or rather too cheerful even for a child. His worldview makes him see everything in the whole, wide world as an opportunity for adventuring and having a great time.

* AuthorityInNameOnly: In "Down With the Ship", it's revealed that his only official naval experience was as a lowly cabin boy and that he appointed himself Captain after sinking the ship. He achieves this rank for real after managing to un-sink the same vessel.

* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: He's a cowardly, weak old blowhard, but he DID in fact sail quite a bit in his younger days, and has picked up a few tricks. Mostly about picking things from other people's pockets. In "Gone Wishin", he was able to steal the Mermaid Queen's heart and successfully evade her guards.

* CloudCuckoolander

* BruiserWithASoftCenter: A giant octopus with a gruff and fierce look surely qualifies as a bruiser by human standards and it comes as no surprise when he shows how merciless he can be towards auspicious thieves. What comes as a surprise however is how fond he turns out to be of singing and gradually also shows some fondness for Flapjack himself.

* ParentalAbandonment: He was found on a bed of seaweed as a baby.

* WideEyedIdealist: Given the ugliness and insanity around him and above all and K'nuckles being a total phony, he comes across as less wide-eyed and more like blind-eyed.

* DependingOnTheWriter: He's either an irredeemable selfish bum or a {{Jerk With A Heart Of Gold}} who genuinely cares for Flapjack and Bubbie.

* SassyBlackWoman: Her deep tone, her southern accent and her vocal mannerisms (being to-the-point and outspoken) deliberately invoke this. It helps that she's voiced by a black woman, Roz Ryan.

* BunnyEarsLawyer: Unlike what one would expect from a man who has a wife made ouf of candy and whom even Flapjack once called lonely, he has a very enterprising mind, always recognising business opportunities and is thusly a very successful businessman.

* PetTheDog: He does have a few kind moments here and there like accepting K'nuckles apologies during Low Tidings eve and softening up (that is until he realised that he faked it) and offering Flap a free piece of candy as consolation for his two guardians parting ways.
